Nice! It looks like it could really be used for any race. A very well rounded station.

Yes that's the great thing about Star Wars, it could be used and in fact is used by both the Empire and Rebels along with pirates and a few other organisations. However I am hoping to have a unique one for each faction, however if I decided I can't be bothered I can just give them slight texture variants and it will work just as well.

I am glad you like it.

Corellian DP Gunship Series
The DP series of Gunships were produced by Corellian Engineering Corporation as a heavy alternative to the CR series Corvettes. Designed as a anti-pirate/heavy transport, the DP series were sold mainly to small government bodies for the protection against pirate raids. Some important officials utilised them as heavy transports capable of fending off all but the most determined and powerful crime organisations and raids. Even some Imperial Officials were known to favour them as their personal transports. Based off the CR70 concept, the DP10 was the first successful DP Gunship however a number of flaws plagued the vessel shortly after release and even with sufficient upgrades, not all of these flaws were fully ironed out, it's successor the DP20, was a step up, but also much more costly. Many DP10's found their way into the hands of the very pirates that they were designed to combat, and that is were the majority of them can be found today, with few local government's using them. The DP20 is more widely used and have become famous in the hands of the Rebel Alliance, who use them to great effect.

Some of you may remember these models on the first page of this thread. Well as part of my Christmas release, I have textured them, the DP20 is basically complete apart from the missile tubes and the DP10 is about 50% complete and I am hoping I'll have it finished tomorrow. They both share the same texture file due to sharing many of the same components and parts.

This is also my first Star Wars texture so please let me know if I have succeeded or not. I plan to texture a few of my Star Wars models for the Christmas release, which ones I am keeping quiet about. :p

So here are the images of the 99% complete DP20 Gunship for your viewing pleasure, all up texturing has taken me on and off about 2 days, so I would guess about 14-16 hours so far.

Very, very nice .

Did you do the plates by hand or rig up some form of base texture?

Thank you all, I am glad you like, it's my most detail texturing since my Battlestar Galactica textures.

Very, very nice .

I did have a base texture with the background and aztec pattern like all my textures, however apart from the weathering/dirt, Rebel logos and the engine glow (the latter by Syf) everything is hand made. The weathering is actually a nebula brush but works extremely well for dirt. The Rebel logo is a custom PS shape that I used and then added some weathering over the top, selected it and then deleted the weathering selection on the logo to give it the worn look.

I feel for Star Wars, and especially for the Rebels and Pirates, that the weathered and worn look is really a part of who they are, using what they can get especially old designs that have seen their fair share of combat and space use. I'll release a clean version and a weathered look. I might even look at going back and re-do the weathering so I can have stages, which then can be used for ranked units where each ranks gets a little more dirt on it.

The gunship textures look great man! Gotta love those Corellian ships!

About how many textures did you do for that? Just one? I'm going through the learning process of trying to make a decent starting texture right now...

About how many textures did you do for that? Just one?

One for both ships actually, the DP20 and DP10. They share a lot of the same parts and so share about 50% of the same parts so I felt for both performance and ease of killing two birds with one stone that this was the way to go. I generally use 2048x2048 textures, just one easily covers it, a 1024x1024 can also cover a lot of ships. I just like to have the spare room to be able to do more like I did with the DP Gunships. I have a different logo for the top and bottom, allowing a little more uniqueness.

I'm going through the learning process of trying to make a decent starting texture right now...

The hardest part of texturing is the UV mapping, it's always best to map to a blank texture, that way you can tell if there is any texture stretch and it's a lot easier than trying to map a ship to a texture it wasn't made for. For many years I did it the other way around and spent just about the same amount of time mapping it as I do now to make it. Also try and get everything on the one texture, sometimes it's not possible but 99.9% of cases it is and should work well, always increase your texture size, or scale down your ship parts if need be. Also I also recommend a size of 1024x1024 or at the maximum a texture size of 2048x2048, the latter only if you're using a single texture.

I use several base parts, like the engine glow for example as a base. However I do have different aztec patterns for different series. I am using my Trek one here on these Star Wars ships, however I have a different BSG one and will probably have a different one all together for my Stargate ships when I get to them. I do this as I want them to feel different, but there is nothing wrong with a base set for all series, I am just a bit fussy when it comes to my own personal work, always trying to get the best with what I got.

It's true I build my models for FO now and so like my textures I can go higher than I would for A2, however I also build them in case I ever decide to mod another game, as they'll still be detailed enough (I hope) for higher end games.

Thanks I wasn't sure they were much liked I mean I think they are the best textures I have ever done I think. Very detailed and realistic but also have taken as long if not longer than any BSG texture ever has.

They definitely have a very nice Star Wars feel about them. Sometimes, effect is better than accuracy Good job, Mate!

While I still have some work to do on the Gunships I've notice there are quite a few models I have done yet never shown in this thread. To try and solve this a little I've decided to show two in this post. I remembered this after seeing Adm_Z's post in this thread about his Star Wars work.

So here we have the Acclamator I and Acclamator II ships. The first is the one seen in Attack of the Clones and the Clone Wars. A transport ship used for transporting ground troops. In-game my plan was to make it an assault ship. The second ship the Acclamator II is a frigate version, used for combat, limited starfighter transport and basically for escorting the larger Imperial class Star Destroyers.

Thanks, mine look close to EvilJedi's as I used his as a guide to create mine. However mine obviously are a lot lower in poly count. Obviously my textures will be a lot more detailed than EJ's are. I prefer to do detailed textures.

I've also done a Venator and the Rand Eclipic both Clone War era designs.

Yea, ites the detailed texures that mak lower poly modeling an artform instead of just another skill.

Yeah, tbh, with better textures I would definitely prefer your maj. I hope you do a nice detailed texture for this skin.

I always thought it looked very pretty for a low detail ship.

Agreed, that is a reason why my ships take so long, the tedious mapping of the mesh to a blank texture and then making the textures. I must admit I like doing the textures, it's the mapping that discourages me.

Well that is how detailed I will probably get, much like my BSG textures, though I think I have been putting more detail into my Star Wars ships than I ever did on my BSG ships. I will probably also do an Imperial and Republic version. I plan for many ships do do several texture variants just for variety and due to the nature of the Star Wars Universe, with companies building ships and selling to whoever unlike many other sci-fi series.

Thanks, however she isn't the first on my list as after I get the Gunships done I want to get a few other ones textured and released. But I think she's the first Imperial design that I want to do. So you're in luck there. Lets see how I progress in the new year, I'll probably be able to get the Gunships and one other done before Christmas as I am hoping to include them in my Christmas Release.

Next on my list of modelled but not textured Star Warts designs is the Rand Ecliptic. A former Republic design used as a frigate by the Imperials. It follows the style first introduced in the Acclamator and is a smaller alternative to the Acclamator II. The Rand Ecliptic herself was the first assignment of Biggs Darklighter, childhhood friend of Luke Skywalker and casuality at the Battle of Yarvin, after his graduation at the Imperial Academy before he defected to the Rebellion.
