• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Sadly, it looks like it only has the CPU's integrated GPU for graphics. There are external GPUs now, though. I wonder if it has the right port for one of those...

They should look into installing a mobile graphics processor like they use in gaming laptops.

On second thought, I wonder if I could get just the case and build my own....

Pretty much that. I enjoyed the soundtracks from New worlds, SFC and Klingon Academy. Bridge Commander.....I replaced it with Kenji Kawai soundtracks that fit Star trek.

I've been pretty skeptical about curved displays. Seems like you would need to be in just the right spot so the image didn't distort. How does that part work out?

The Discovery uniform is currently free on the Xbox Avatar Store for both XB1 and 360. It's the captain variant, specifically. Looks like there's some free Marvel stuff, too.

Due to the Girl Scouts having failed to do any actual scouting for a few decades in favor of using children as unpaid cookie salesmen, the Boy Scouts of America are rebranding themselves as simply The Scouts and are allowing girls to join.

I have known of this for at least a year now. My oldest was in Girl Scouts for a while and my son is now in his third year with the Boy Scouts. My youngest daughter has been going with us since the beginning and the group has already accepted her. Starting next year, she will be able to officially join. She will be doing things she already has been doing but its not that big of a deal.

The comment about the Girl Scouts is true though. My oldest daughter did not do a whole lot of activities when she was in. A real shame too.

Well, I'm excited for her! Being an official member opens up some things. Also, if I remember correctly, they have stuff for most any age group, so your older daughter might be able to do something if she's still interested. (I have no idea how old your kids are)

Anyone else have a coupon show up in their Steam inventory for 66% off Ashes of the Singularity? I'm not really interested in the game right now so if anyone wants the coupon they can send me a message. It expires on the 11th.

Got an Armada 2 question.

Has anyone been able to import the research pod model for the Chain Reaction Pulsar into Milkshape successfully? I'm having some kind of 'sod lighting' error that won't let me import the model from A2

Say good by to the Air Force's tiger stripes

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AFNS) -- Air Force leaders announced the service will move to a single combat utility uniform, adopting the Operational Camouflage Pattern, or OCP, already in use by the Army and Airmen in combat zones and in certain jobs across the Air Force.

Starting Oct. 1, 2018, Airmen who have serviceable OCPs may wear the uniform, and Airmen can purchase OCPs at Army and Air Force Exchange Services at the following locations: Aviano Air Base, Italy; Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina; Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina; and MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. These initial locations will allow uniform manufacturers to produce additional stocks for other locations, eventually outfitting the total force in the coming months.

The service will fully transition to OCPs by April 1, 2021.

Is it rude to ask for a tentative release date for a mod, or does it even matter?
I am expanding on a post I made earlier today because I feel the need to vent.
Bear with me, I know there is a point in here somewhere.
Creativity is great, sharing it is even better, but going from excited to anxious is just cruel.
This is not about property rights or fair use, its your model/s to do with as you feel fit, but how long does a person have to wait to play with these toys. I always get excited that something new is in the works, then anxious that I will ever get to play with it. For example, George R. R. Martin ... bad example, I waited 10 years for a book and I am willing to wait 20 more for another. But at least he has the best of intentions and although he never makes a release date the story will continue and end in one form or another. Can I say this about a mod? I am still waiting for the SeaQuest DSV mod, and probably will into the grave at this rate. When I started playing I was young(ish) and there was so much content, but now I am old(ish) and the content is so refined that no one is releasing anything.
I originally came to this site because I like starships, seeing what people are working on maybe even playing with their content one day, but literally waiting months for 1 model to post or years for a mod?
When I started this post I thought I had a point, but now I am just venting.
I don't know, am I crazy?

There is honestly nothing wrong with venting as long as you keep it civil (which in my opinion you did).

Now a few things to keep in mind regarding mods: The length of time for a mod to go from concept to release varies on the extent of the mod. If a person is doing to single ship for the stock game, the turn around can be fairly quick. Even at that, the more detailed they may make the ship and or textures will increase the turn around time.

When done alone the artist will:
-Create the model. .
-Then create the textures.
-Apply the textures to the model.
-Write the .odf for the ship.
-Make the build button.
-Make the wireframe.
-Edit the .odf for the shipyard to build the ship.
-Put it in their own game to test.
-Make a balance pass.
-Write instructions on how to install the ship.

That is a lot of work for just one ship. If the ship is for Fleet Ops, then it will be longer and the Fleet Ops team basically rewrote the coding for the game.

Since you specifically mentioned the SeaQuest mod, there will be a whole lot more to it. Not only is the person or team building the models, they are going to have to rewrite the game coding to change it from a space sim to a under sea sim. This also means whole new maps made from scratch. Then if it is to be a complete conversion with missions (this is rarely done) then there is even more work.

So while your anxiety is understood, patience for what comes will certainly be greatly appreciated by the artists.

I personally don't believe there's any harm in asking about mod status, but the answer will invariable be "when its done." The caveat being that a continuous stream of asking is likely to wind people up.

As for the seaQuest mod, if I recall it was Rodglas working on that. I have not even seen Rodglas about on the site since around the time I released the BSG Half Race mod (shameless self plug :lol2:) as I asked for advice about EMP type weapons.
However, if you've been watching my thread then you may have seen a bunch of low poly submarine models under construction. My intent is to release those boats. Whether I'll try and make a mod or just release them as ship packs I don't yet know. I don't currently have a working A2 installation which is slowing progress slightly. I still have to build up a Macronesian fleet from scratch, plus some utility vessels and some generic "starbases".

You also have to understand that unlike a professional game development company, all of the modders you'll find are doing so in their spare time, working around their jobs, their lives, their families lives, any other projects they have going. A modder might do a long stretch of work on a mod, then walk away from it for a week to do something else. I agree with your point that releasing a long string of spoilers can lead to anxiety, as it looks like feature creep, but as stated, a long string of requests for an ETA has a decent possibility of stressing out a modder...and therefore making the mod release date even later.
