• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Gotta love G'Kar.....and boy do I miss Babylon 5. That show was like the realistic cousin to Star Trek.

Question for STO players:

In the mission 'Boldly They Rode', is there ever an explanation for the random Klingon Bird of Prey that attacks the station?

Is there ever an explanation for anything the Klingons do?

Babylon 5 ends about where TOS starts, culturally, but it shows what a long and hard slog it is to become those better people, and the fight to stay that way. Trek just alludes to World War 3 and leaves it at that. As much as JMS was adamant about not making Star Trek or a Star Trek clone, Babylon 5 turned out to be a great companion piece to Trek.

Really annoys me when you read the things they were going to do in Crusade, extra details about the EA experiments with Shadow tech, more about the mission of the Technomages and more Bester

G'Kar is one of my favorite characters in any show. I love his teachings to the Narn following his return from Centauri Prime and after Kosh puts him on the path to save his people. But that speech you linked above Hellkite is my favorite, I always get chills by his words and delivery in "The Long Twilight Struggle".

here is mine

The universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice.
The language is not Narn, or Human, or Centauri, or Gaim or Minbari
It speaks in the language of hope
It speaks in the language of trust
It speaks in the language of strength and the language of compassion
It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul.
But always it is the same voice
It is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us,
And the voice of our inheritors, waiting to be born
It is the small, still voice that says
We are one
No matter the blood
No matter the skin
No matter the world
No matter the star:
We are one
No matter the pain
No matter the darkness
No matter the loss
No matter the fear
We are one
Here, gathered together in common cause, we agree to recognize this
singular truth and this singular rule:
That we must be kind to one another
Because each voice enriches us and ennobles us and each voice lost
diminishes us.
We are the voice of the Universe, the soul of creation, the fire
that will light the way to a better future.
We are one.

Origin is having a publisher sale. Two guesses who the publisher is.

Yep. They're the only publisher on the platform. Why not just say there's a sale? Why specify it as a publisher sale? That's like a book store specifying that they have a sale on books.

Got up this morning and decided to play some Xbox. Spent an hour trying to figure out why said Xbox wont turn on.

I think the power supply brick bit the dust.

First time ever that the site has been closed down. The Met Office Red warning sent the lawyers into a spin and we had to be sent home for insurance purposes. Although I doubt that we even have half an inch on the ground at the moment. Not that I'm complaining - I do most of my hours in the morning so I actually end up with two hours overtime because of it :)

S when they sent us home yesterday they made a point of saying that the site would be open as normal today unless they posted otherwise on twitter and the local news. At 6:20am (which is 20mins after the early shift starts) I checked and found nothing. So I spent over an hour walking into work in snow a foot deep in places... only to find the site closed. Another hour walking back, check twitter - still nothing. I'll be lodging a complaint with HR!

Two other people arrived at the same time I did. One of them phoned a colleague who said that another gate was locked. There were plenty of footprints in the snow already - my guess is the early shift had showed up at 6am and ended up going home too. The notification never turned up on Twitter and only showed up on the local news stream at 09:45, which is 15 minutes after everyone has to be at work

It finally happened. I just finished all of the classes for my Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology with an Emphasis on Web Development.:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
I even managed to keep a 4.0 GPA. I don't have graduation until June 1st of this year but it is great to be done. Not bad at all for having swiss cheese memory and not having the ability to remember some classes at all.
Now I must decide if I want to continue my education. There is not much difference in the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in computers. It is about the same as the difference in a High School Diploma and an Associate's Degree. 2 more years but not a substantial difference in pay. The only reason for me to get a Master's would be to continue to the next level but I am not sure there is a PHD in the area I am in. I have 3 months to decide.
I am scheduled to make a trip to visit Syf in a couple days but my car just went down, spent the trip money for the part, and it won't be in until Tuesday.

Congratulations.
Something to consider when making your choice is accreditation. I don't know about computing but in engineering we have a number of recognised bodies - e.g. IMechE, RAeS, an electrical one I can never remember. It is easier to gain chartership with one of these bodies if you have a Masters at an accredited university. While being chartered may not show as a pay increase, it is something that firms look for on a CV. For example, UK MoD now require that a firm have a certain percentage of chartered engineers on the books as a prerequisite of giving them the contract.
Note - you don't need a Masters t get chartered, it just cuts down the requirements.
Personally it annoys the hell out of me. I find it insulting that I have to pay (yes, you need to pay a fee to register and then an annual fee to keep it) to have an organisation that doesn't know me or what I do (except from a CV and an interview) say that I can do my job, even though I've been ding that job for ten years.
Anyway, chartership with a professional body may be something to look into as it may impact your choice in whether or not to further your education.

The school I have been attending is accredited through the same group as several major universities. I would not start a Master's without knowing where I would go further. It is tough to say. At this point a Bachelor's is enough and with other experiences that I have I do believe that I separate myself from other programmers. I just have to decide if continuing is the best option. It would be interesting to say the least.

University accreditation with a body is a... flexible... thing. My BEng was supposedly accredited with both RAeS and IMechE - however when we contacted them to find out what it was actually worth the answer was nowt - Masters or complete the full work period. If you are interested in chartership then I would confirm with the body what you're Bachelors will actually get you.
I'm not trying to push you in one direction or the other, I'm just saying it's wise to confirm what you actually have so that you can make an informed decision on where you go.

I appreciate it. I fully realize that anything beyond a Bachelor's has to be planned carefully and followed. Starting at the Bachelor's degree, the degree basically opens the door for you but it is up to the individual to prove themselves.
Trust me. This is something that I will not just rush into. It is a nice decision opportunity to have.

I work from 10 pm to 830 am Tue - Fri. The good thing is that I work only 4 days. On Mondays, I usually pull all nighters or close to it.

Grrr, yahoo have just forced a change in the email page. And it doesn't work with Pale Moon
I can't check tick boxes, delete emails, or even view emails more than two weeks old. I can't even close them once I've opened them.
Back to Opera I guess...

Just gave myself a mini-heart attack. Turned on my mesh PC to finish off the seaQuest... and it didn't boot!
After several attempts I realised I had an external USB HDD plugged in and on, so it was trying to boot from that.

Anyone else find it fun to try making a subtle-looking alien in STO that still looks cool?

I have two alien gen characters in STO. The first on the Fed side is a faux Cardassian. The other that is a Fed aligned Romulan is a Klingon/Romulan hybrid.
