• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

That was a very very nice video. I was also glad that I got to see those asteroid/mineral thingies from another topic about translucent textures. I do hope you'll get them to look as you like, that will make your awesome mod even better :excited:.

They are called Exodines, and they are probably most relatable to arthropods. Essentially anerobic insects/arachnids/crustaceans that somehow developed in the vacuum.

Sweet! Now all you need to do is something based on the anomalocarididae. :lol2:

(Honestly, the entire Burgess shale is weird as hell. You could probably turn half of those fossils into space monsters and almost no one would complain.)

Amazing work! I can't believe that I haven't come across this mod earlier, I must have been kept in a cave :p very impressed with the quality of the artwork, and the imagination that went into creating it. All thumbs up :) The textures are just superb

Very curious to know how the uber-sized map objects work with pathing and gameplay. Gives the game an almost surreal or magical feel.

Are you thinking of animating any of the organic units? Or perhaps they are animated, but i didn't notice from the videos. Either way, the wildlife is a really neat addition.

It's admittedly been a while since I've played, but I'm pretty sure they are background objects that sit below the playing field. I very distinctly remember a couple maps where there was a planet under the playing area that basically was the background. Planets that are actually huge is a really cool feature, by the way, TUN.:thumbsup:

They are just using the Starbase classlabel and have no pathing or collision. All the pathing and collision is handled by pathing blockers that can be put on maps in Fleet Ops.

Are you thinking of animating any of the organic units? Or perhaps they are animated, but i didn't notice from the videos.

I want to animate organic units but I don't have an SOD exporter for Maya that supports animations.

ooh, I didn't realize that there was a SOD exporter for Maya. If the source is available for this exporter, I might be able to add in support for animations. No guarantees though as I've never even used Maya, much less its scripting language. lol

Alternatively, if it is possible to convert animated models between Maya and 3dsMax, then the 3dsMax exporters can export out animated SODs. I can definitely assist with the latter if need be, just let me know. :)

The exporter I use is actually for MS3D. I model in Maya and then bring it over to MS3D to hardpoint them and export. By my understanding Maya's Mel script is similar to Max script though.

I'll gladly do another preview on that map. I hopefully should have enough new content for the 6th race and take them for a test run in a week or so. I'm glad I could inspire, inspiring people to work on things is always part of my goal. :cool:

Work that is better than your own should not discourage you Crisis. It should inspire you to do better if you see it as that. I know TUN inspires me to work harder. :D

Awesome! This definitely deserves to be more than a FO mod. Looking forward to learning more about the two remaining groups, they certainly are mysterious. And Kydora :x is just adorably nuts.

Though I have to say, that face thing at the end creeps me the F out. Are you trying to pull a Dunwich Horror in Space? Is the VRA secretly building an ancient space monster in the barn? :lol:
