Hello:
It's been a while. Trying to slowly get back into modeling I decided to go back to good old BSG.

Only 8 years, no biggie... yours is starting to look like my modding though :lol2:

First thing I decided to do was model the Scarlet Viper, a Richard Hatch design from the Second Coming trailer and fan film he was trying to get off the ground in the 90's.

I decided to make it using my Viper 2 and 1 models and while I was at it I fixed some texture errors on the earlier models.

I have a few other models in the works including a Battlestar. Will see how I go aye. :)
The Scarlet Viper is a good design because it doesn't go over the top and is actually believable, as well as it does indeed fit in any launch tube  . But are you making it to fit the Reimagined BSG?

Haha, yeah. Wanting to get back into it, I really want to learn blender for modeling.

But are you making it to fit the Reimagined BSG?

Actually I am considering going my own way, make my own NU/MAJ/BSG merging the concepts of both TOS and TNS. I don't know yet.

I hope it will go well! because Blender needs some time to get it to be used it properly.

I have seen that been done in DeviantArt, so I am very sure you'll be able to do it, I myself I am working on a reimagined Star Trek and a sort of fan-based continuation of TNS BSG  .

There are certainly aspects of both I really enjoy. I wasn't hugely fond of the TNS Cylons or the excessive god religion the TNS Cylons had but I really liked the TNS Colonial designs with the exception of the Galactica as it never felt like it fit when looking at other designs. I always felt the Galactica was too curvy for a warship built during a war and when compared to the Mercury and Valkyrie etc.

Anyway here is my take on a TOS Flattop seen in the 1970's BSG. I used Coxxon's TNS Flattop as a based (kinda prudent since TNS flatop was heavily based on the TOS design) and made the modifications required plus a few elements of my own just for detail purposes. I also fixed some errors on the mapping in Coxxon's originals just for completion purposes.

Here is TNS Flattop for comparison.

I'm thinking of trying my hand at a military version soon. Something bigger and more advanced. Who knows.

Hello:
Good work with the Flattops! I myself made one too and a larger variant created by Ice-Dragon. But those models went into oblivion along all my civilian ships. So I am intrigued to know what roles will you give these 2 ships  .

Having seen both the original and new series at least partially, design-wise I personally prefer the 2003 version of the Cylons and their 'ships' (well, at least the robotic ones - the humanoid cylons I never really liked). Conceptually, I find the idea of religious robots really fascinating, and I think the series could have made more out of the idea. (That sadly applies to a lot of ideas in the show...) I also really like the design of the Galactica, although I agree with you that she stands out from the other Colonial capital ships we've seen.

Anyway, great work on these models, Maj. They have the proper industrial look

Hello:
I agree with Terra about the concept of the religious robots, because that is a clear sign of spirituality, something that goes beyond any programable AI, so the very idea of that is more than worth exploring in depth. So that is one particular point I would have loved to see given the attejntion it deserved.

About the Galactica's design, the idea that it was a warship designed when Colonials tried to give-up technology because of the Cylons, but still having the mindset of a very advanced civilization could explain why the ship had those elegant curves, at least in my opinion. Valkyries and Mercuries are clearly ship designs that come from post-war Colonials, with a different mindset  .

Great looking ships Maj!

I am an old school BSG fan also, in spite of all of the campiness and cheese, I had a lot more fun with the original than the reboot. I can certainly appreciate a lot of things in the reboot as well, don't get me wrong. I do like many of the ship designs, specifically the Viper Mk 2 was a highlight for me and I did like the look of the modern Battlestars.

When it came to the Cylons, I much preferred them in the original series. I don't mind their culture being expanded to present beliefs such as theology and other developments of a sentient society, however the humanoid Cylons were boring for me, particularly as everyone and their mother was continued to be revealed as a Cylon model as the series went on. Also I was much more a fan how the old series focused more on the fighter pilot aspect and the missions, kind of like a live action Wing Commander series. The reboot lost that soon after the end of season 1.

It's always good to see new BSG content though, no matter what the source!

Thanks all.

I haven't had a lot of time to play around with modeling this last week. Many days putting my motor together and such.

But today I have been messing around with a few more of coxxons models, here are two more both texture variants.

The first is a terrorist pirate transport. I'd imagine these are armed and can give the smaller military units a fair go.

PirateQueen.png

The next is a militarized version of the Gemenon Traveler.

Hello:
I like the expanded roles you gace those ship designs! The Gemenon Traveller one sure is a nice cue to one of the good scenes from "Blood and Chrome" :D .

Thanks, my thoughts too. It was seen in a couple of scenes and thought giving it a military look it could be used as a scout, or freighter or something. It's such a shame they didn't continue with blood and chrome as it was far my favourite of TNS BSG.

It was good, but I still cannot forgive it's glaring errors, like the Valkyrie :lol2: .

But I am very eager to know what will you come-up with!

The RTF really should have retrofitted more of the civilian ships for light combat roles...ah well...

Love the look of those two!

Some more new stuff. First is a larger heavy transport I like to think it's a predecessor to the design that Colonial One was.

Envoy.png

Next isn't exactly new I did this years back. However I have done some slight texture and mesh alterations. The military Celestra, a design that was originally civilian but the military ended up using during the Cylon war for an escort unit.

Yes the Valkyrie was something that just didn't fit. Totally too new for the era. It's as bad as if they had thrown a Mercury in. Would've been better to throw in another Jupiter class.

I agree, I'm surprised more civilian ships weren't retrofitted with basic armament especially after Pegasus joined with it's manufacturing abilities.

I like them! Specially how you decided to make the original Colonial One a design very similar to Roslin's ship. I always thought that would have been the case, with secretaries been given ships like Roslin used while Colonial One could have been simnilar or maybe a larger Passenger Liner  .

Exactly, it was almost like if they added a Sovereign class to STD's Battle of Binary Stars :lol2: . Ironically, there was a Jupiter class in the Ghost Fleet, that could have easily been the Valkyrie, explicitly showing how Colonials also had name lineage on their warships.

I agree, I'm surprised more civilian ships weren't retrofitted with basic armament especially after Pegasus joined with it's manufacturing abilities.

Indeed, that was a missed opportunity.

"The final annihilation of the lifeform known as man... Let the attack begin"

I decided to give the Cylons some love. First 3 Raiders have been completed:

That's my own design inspired a little by the design from BS Deadlock.

I keep debating getting Deadlock. I'm just afraid to start another game haha, I haven't even finished Fallen Order or Squadrons yet. Pokemon Sword is going quite well though.

If I were to get it, what's your recommended system? I was leaning towards the Switch.

Gorgeous stuff Maj, love seeing TOS BSG stuff. Those fighters are enough to make Imperious Leader proud.

Fallen Order was too complicated for me with the controls. I barely started it and just watched the cuts scenes on youtube lol.

I did finish Squadrons but after the campaign I found the game sorely lacking in content being a single player story driven player.

As for Deadlock. It's a fun game the turn based action can get a bit repetitive my recommendation which is what I did was get it while it's on sale. I bought the base game and a number of the dlcs. I got it on the PC myself through steam.

Hello:

It is always good to see Cylon stuff been made! I like your take on the Heavy Raider  .

Thanks buddy. Glad you like it.

Probably see a lot more as I am trying to make my own updated BSG heavily based on TOS with elements of the Ron Moore series added in.
