• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

So I've been trawling various A2 sites for NPCs. I have already collected a small armada of those, and I'm planning to add more to my list. I'll probably end up with... around nine or ten mini-races. If anyone can recommend me some, I'd appreciate it. Being completely unable to model anything at all, I am stuck with what I can find and/or retex. Right now I have Romulans, Klingons, various pirates and other scum... :p

Of course, all of the NPCs will have fully functional AIs, meaning that most of them will be able to produce new units. It's a somewhat new approach, bringing the NPCs away from the "map unit" concept we've all used for the last years. Effectively, it'll be a bit like the Sigma NPCs, though in Wastelands they can and will do heavy damage to you if you're not careful. A handful of NPCs is a fair challenge, and we're not used to battling several smaller enemies at once, so this will bring some interesting gameplay. (Really, I try to bring us away from the same old 1on1 "find enemy, spam ships, epic butt-kick, next game" approach.)

I have a Talarian scout ready and a Talarian warship in the making. You can have both if you want.

I was doing some re-work on Avon's Talaxians, however gone back to YY recently, might not be what you are after however.

With Warship you mean the canon one, right? I'm using the one made by Avon (just because he also did the "reused model" variants), but your Scout sounds really interesting. I'd give it a try. :yum:

Yeah, the problem is that I just can't justify Delta Quadrant races showing up at the Federation border. We have a lot of good DQ npc's at A2F, but it wouldn't make sense to use them in this setting.

Yeah I thought as much, well the offer is there if you do change your mind or decide to make a DQ version down the track. I would probably after YY and the BSG are done be willing to lend a big modelling hand with something like that.

*facepalm* You're right. Scout = Observation Craft. :cry2:
Anyway, I'd take a look at them once you're done. Sounds good.

How did you discover my secret plans? :lol2: Of course you can't know it.
Wastelands is and always was planned as an evolutionary mod. That means, I do the main mod, and try to do a really good job. Once it's released, and there are no bugs, I freeze the mod and do every addition as an addon, rinse & repeat.
The plot of the 3rd Wastelands campaign is closely linked to the Delta Quadrant. I don't want to spoil the ending, but having a DQ addon continuing the story a bit would make sense. *hint hint* I'd love to do it and it would be great to have your support.

****it, dubblol post :) can someone merge these? kthxbai

I should probably add that ATM I'm working towards a playable Beta of this, which will have the Feds and assorted NPCs plus a mini-campaign to show off MMM, and what we can do with it. Stay tuned for news.

Modder kitteh returns with new screenshots. This time: Klingon NPCs. No stations yet (the time, where is it?), but some nice beauty shots. Ships by Avon. Thanks, man!

Ah yes, peaceful coexistence. We're allies, you know. :)
That thing in the middle is the Klinker cruiser, btw

attachment.php
Skaree? The Che'var is the Klingon equivalent of the Starchaser (a bit larger and slightly better armed, though). The small thingies are destroyers.

attachment.php
The battle, is it about to begin? Or do they meet to discuss how to get rid of pirates? Those battlecruisers seem quite powerful, don't they?

attachment.php
Aaand the final shot. The one in the middle is the refit, the others are the original. All of them are heading for Hephaestus Station. Repairs? You bet.

attachment.php

Stay tuned, more stuff coming whenever I get the time. Weekends ROCK.

Great work Terra and nice screenshots. I see you're taking full advantage of Avon's Klingon pack.

Oh yeah. I am actually surprised that the ships from this pack didn't appear in TCs like AoW (well... Achilles included the Che'var, but the other ones are just as great) or in PotDs. With Wastelands I am also trying to show the people some of the (mostly) untouched jewels that can be found in our community. And as to Avon... I love his work. :yum:

Oh yes I love Avon's work too. His Dominion ships are among my favourites, and I love his DQ stuff, as I mentioned earlier I was doing some re-vamps of his Talaxians. Something I will get back to over time. I plan to release a full pack of Talaxian models, some of Avon's meshes re-vamped and others of mine. Pretty much so people can have a complete playable race to take on Avon's Hirogen. :)

Avon is another of those people in this Community whose work I think is under appreciated. He's been making things no one else has for a very long time. And these things are always something we all wanted. The ships and ship packs he's released over the years are brilliant examples of what A2 mods should be. There are lot of us modders (myself definitely included) who are flashier and more well known. However, most of this group (again I freely include myself) do not even have a tenth of the talent and skill Avon does.

Avon has never put out something which is not complete in and of itself and which will not mesh(no pun intended) flawlessly with whatever version of A2 one happens to be playing. I would like very much to encourage everyone to run right out and D/L everything Avon has ever done. I promise you'll not be sorry and you'll enjoy the ships and all the little touches he includes as well. For those whom read this and are just starting out as A2 modders, Avon makes a very good role model as to how it should be done. And always done to perfection at that.

And just why is Avon such an outstanding A2 modder, you ask? Easy. First and foremost he is an outstanding person. The sort of person all of us should associate with a lot more often than we do. Because it is good for us to do so.

I've been doing some more weapon artwork for the Klinkers. My early attempt at a disruptor sprite was good, but looked way too powerful for something that is a dependable, simple standard weapon. Looked more like something a battleship would have as a forward-firing cannon. :p

I am close to completing my basic balance sheet (finally!), which will allow me to start a "ship adding spree". Maybe we'll have the first pictures and even a vid of some in-game action in a week or two! (As soon as I keep the CoE defensive AI from CTDing.)

Also, does anybody still have a copy of Rake's weapon textures they could hand me? Not that I needed them for Wastelands (I'm pretty much independent when it comes to weapon textures), but I just found out that I lost my copy a while ago.

Oh, what a day. I was just putting Jet's retexture of the Nova class outpost into my game. Was looking at another old station, thinking I should try to improve the textures. When I opened them, they seemed vaguely familiar... No wonder, they were the same as the Nova outpost!
The old texture freak has retextured my Orbital Facility as well. :p

, everything is going to plan. Unlike other people's overly grandiose methods to take over the world, I like it subtle. Wait, what?

To be honest though I blame an "older" fellow, Captain Fingers, he tends to "recycle" his base textures a lot. This is also reminds me, I do recall him having his own website where he used to host a lot of his works. I've lost the link but it was a great resource for Fed Stations. It's actually where I got some of the stations I revamped last year. I think the site was called Darth Spanky's Armada Models. :lol2:

The Rakellians off of SFC3 are always good, course they'd need converted. I've got two additional kitbashes for them on SFC3F as well.

Not sure what the policy is on using stock models from other games though.

Wow, looking great Terra, that last station image has inspired me for an ENT era mining station. I know I already have one but this design will be better.

I can't wait to see more from Wastelands, the concept is a fantastic one and even know not a great deal has been done, Wastelands has already crawled up high on my list of desired mods. :)

I can understand that, when I was working as a Boilermaker I didn't have a great deal of time either to work on Yesteryears.

I do look forward to seeing more work done on this project when the time presents itself. ;)
