That fighter looks very nice, it would be interesting to see it in 3d.
And I agree that 500 polygons is a good count for fighters, specially if used in FleetOps as their updated engine allows for more polies without lag (Borg Cube having 10000+ polies ).
I go with counts that MaP once suggested, so keep it between 400-600 polies, and it should be fine.
