While not actually a fighter, my favourite military aircraft has to be the AC-130H Spectre gunship.

As for fighters... The Spitfire, of course!

Why? Well..... it is based on a design that is about 30 years old. It is a top-rate fighter that can probably outmaneuver any F-22 in air-to-air combat, fulfill mutil role duties (much like the F-16 Falcon) and that for a small part of the prize of a F-22 Raptor or Europe's totally flawed Eurofighter Typhoon.

Of course I am not a fighter pilot, but from what I have read, you can get a relatively cheap, yet superbly effective combat aircraft.


And I like the old A7 Corsair II....

Fictional: I am fully with the SA-32 Thunderbolt II

Well, mine differs depending on whether its based on real life performance or my experience with it in a game.

In a game, I love the Sopwith Snipe (Red Baron II) because its the best thing you can face any hun aircraft with, the Camel is good but the Snipe has sheer horsepower.

On CFS, has to be the Mossie. Soar up above your opponents online, then swoop down and blast them with hispanos and brownings. Firepower, speed and manuverability.

My fave game experience though, oddly, has to be on Heroes of the Pacific. Not a sim by any stretch of the imagination, but taking up a Seafire Mk.24 in 1943 is fun, especially since it outpaces, outlasts, outmanuvers and outguns anything the Japanese can throw at it (probably due to the fact it didn't enter service till 1947)

Real life, hmm, difficult. Not actually keen on fighters, prefer bombers. Fighter pilots win the movies, bomber pilots win the war, (as the old adage goes)

Cheap and effective indeed, they totally pwn in the Ace combat series of games and looked really good on the 2005 film, "Stealth"

An on F-117A. If you got spotted by a flanker, pray you could dive down and use your stealth and the natural radar blockage of the ground to lose him.

Even worse when Mainstays are around.

Well heres my list

Ground = Su-37 ( Fav jet in the Ace combat games, had a better all round weapons load than the Raptor )

Carrier = F-35 ( Similar to the raptor but smaller and has more options, good replacment for the aging Harriers )

Fictional = Well im not sure, i think the F-302 but she is kinda out of date and not as powerful as she once was

Su-30MK.
The F-35, Lockheed-Martin and all the fancy new tech in the JSF in honour, but it looks like a duck, compared to such an elegant appearance as a Su-30MK. I've seen her flying on one of the Airshows in Berlin.... the F-16, B-2 and F-117, too, btw.

The image is from FS9, though I don't fly that much in it anymore. I rather fly Blackhawks and Mi24E Hinds and all sorts of other helicopters in Operation Flashpoint

My favorite right now is the Mcdonnell-Douglas/Boeing F-15 Eagle.
It's the only Fighter in history to NEVER lose an airto air engagment.

Second is the F-22 Raptor, but it still as of now, untested.

Nice prop plane, she does have a mixed look to her ( cockpit window looks newer than the plane ) .

Btw Interpid, she may look small but she could get behind a bigger jet and let loose . Bigger the plane, bigger the target . A Typhoon is a great interceptor aswell

Right, she could.

I hope you are NOT talking about the Eurofighter Typhoon... That plane caused so much trouble and costs so much money. I guess we can by 3 Su-37s for one Eurofighter and have a better equipped combat aircraft.
In my opinion, the Eurofighter 2000 or Eurofighter Typhoon were projects to boost the already growing EADS corporation... EADS screwed up with this one.

I also hope your not talking about the Hawker Typhoon! The tiffy was great as a low level ground attack aircraft but her wings were too thick to be effective at high altitude. Thats why they made a new version with thinner, laminar flow wings, known as the Tempest V.

That comment about the Typhoon sparked my memory. I had heard there was a British prop Fighter which was one of the fastest if not the fastest prop planes ever put into production. It missed WW2 but it did serve in Korea where one did shot down a Mig-15, the plane that gave the F-86 loads of trouble. Took some searching but I found out what it was, the Hawker Sea Fury, had around 3500HP and could fly 485 Mph

About the Sea Fury

Well, its pretty much a direct descendant of the Typhoon.

Hurricane -> Tornado -> Typhoon -> Tempest V -> Tempest II -> Fury -> Sea Fury.



Oh and the comment about the P-51 is literally true. The original A's (Allison Engine) and B's (Merlin) had ordinary razorback type hoods, the C's had British Malcom Hoods (bulges on the cockpit hood to allow better rear vision)
and the D's and H's had the new bubble canopy as pioneered on... the Typhoon (late models)

Also a fan of the F-19 stealth fighter. Completely fictional, but designed to 'skunk' the Soviets. Mission accomplished, too.

Oh I loved F-19 Stealth Fighter I was sad when I couldn't fly the F-19 on F-117A (you could fly the F-117A on F-19, if that makes sense)
