That's where refitted 23rd Century ships come in! Been trying to add Phaser Strips to the Ulysses, but it hasn't turn out well enough that I feel it's good enough. Been a slow process as felt burned out after hardpointing all those Klingon ships awhile ago.

Hello:

I actually know how you feel, saucer textures are difficult, that is why I have not made much Trek stuff.
Yes I have been off Trek a while myself and even when I do Trek I prefer no Federation ships myself.

Phaser trips can be done in texture but rather difficult. They'll never look as good as them being part of the 3d model itself.

I prefer the TMP era myself, thankfully no phaser strips lol.

Well, at least you didn't have to hardpoint the Galactica! :help:
Hahahaha. Yeah lots of turrets. Fun fun.
I don't even watch the show, and I know it's loaded with enough weapons and abilities to rival a Super Star Destroyer
Yup. BSG TOS and Star Wars are extremely similar.

Well, it comes with 24 double main turrets and 514 pdp guns, so that is... a lot of guns :lol2: .
So yeah, you have to choose what guns to hardpoint to give a nice effect.

I wouldn't imagine why! :lol2: ... dang saucers!

Tha tis true, but they certainyl adds-up to the poly-count failr quickly

Indeed, all you have to do are half spheres at most :D
Hahahaha. Yeah lots of turrets. Fun fun.
As I mentioned @Admiral*Alex : 24 main double-barreled turrets and 514 pdp guns .... :ori1:
Yup. BSG TOS and Star Wars are extremely similar.
Indeed, 3d-model wise you can make a crossover and it would be very fun!

Yup rather insane but does make sense for a franchise that deals with fighters as one of their primary forms of offensive firepower.
I wouldn't imagine why! :lol2: ... dang saucers!
I find them rather lacking in imagination and somewhat boring. After you do a few of them it becomes tedious only advantage is kitbashing as you don't make to remake or re-texture many parts for each design.

Yes unfortunately. But depends on your limit I suppose.

That and I prefer the era. Something about the feel of the movies that no other era of Trek has.

Indeed, I wonder who is doing that.:angel:

Since I made a new model, I remade the hardpoiting from scratch too... dang, lol, but I hope I put sufficient ones. But with such ammount of guns no wonder people only make custom Battlestars.

You are totally right, as I did that same with my custom fleet, which is in the TOS/TMP equivalent in years, nut not in events.

I am trying to look for ways for me to create TNG -> ships.
Yes unfortunately. But depends on your limit I suppose.
And what are the uses of the ship I pressume. A spammable ship is not the same as an unique hero ship afterall.

I can see why, it has that unique feel indeed.

TNG ships aren't fun lol. I avoid them. Notice I've only ever done a couple.

lol, well, I can understand that. But it is not my plan to make a TNG fleet as Aad Moerman already made them, but there are some ships I'd like to try, maybe to expand my skills a bit :) .
Also the game it's made for.
Ohh, absolutely!
That reminds me of how EO wants me to mod Sins, I admit my Robotech AU would be much fun in that game, with random Zentraedi fleets attacking you  , or to pass to the next system you have to go through a rogue Invid hive  .
Indeed and feel of the era.
Would that be the reason why Pic tried to emulate it with ships like the Titan-A and Intrepid?

Fair. I don't mind doing the Klingons and Cardassians and some of the minor species just not the Fed's. Hahahaha.

Yeah unfortunately they didn't pull it off that well imo. As the feel isn't there. The atmosphere. They would've been better trying to emulate the feel DS9 gave if they wanted a darker era/series.

Not to mention that, in the end, the fleet became a mismatched mix of styles, almost like they are all different fleets altogether.

Hello:

The thing is, I am still mostly trying to make the 3d models
I feel you, in the same boat here.
I guess they ran-out of creativity after making the USS Stargazer?

Yup even the Titan-A was a rehash of a fan TMP design. Pretty sad. They should've used the Eclipse or Century class by DJ Curtis from Bridge Commander if they were going to do that.

You are correct! But it is easy to guess why they won't use fan-made designs like DJ Curtis' ships, and that is because they are meant for the same era as STO ships, so they are competition. That is why they used the Shangri-la classfor the Titan-A.

Yeah the Titan-A and other similar design just didn't fit imo. Making a Neo Constitution was just crazy, rather the STO versions fort those should've used those. Or tried something different that wasn't a hack of an existing design, run a competition for people to design the next Enterprise or Titan or something.

The season was already made, story-wise, to bring back fans. But to also make that with the ships was not the best choice.

But remember, Axanar was competition to Discovery, so CBS waited for any slip ton bring it down (Alec Peters didn't help either). Post-Nemesis fan-ships were not going to be added as they clash with STO. So why not choose a STO ship for the role of the Titan-A, right?

It was actually because of the back lash of the copy and paste Inquiry Fleet. They needed more starships, and quickly. As CBS/Paramount already has the assets (due to licensing), Picard asked if they could modify the textures to match the quality of Picard. STO said "YES!" and sent the original files over for PIC to due with as they pleased.

Unfortunately, many of the designs they ended up using were refits of old 23rd Century designs meant for the post-Iconian War Era. Not the late 2390's.

The 3d modeller of the Inquiry made a public comment saying they gave him like some days to make the ship, even less time than what was given to Doug Drexler when he made the Enterprise-J. So producers always think 3d models can be made in matter of hours.

The short of it is that during the 23rd century, a major shipyard was lost due to some kind of solar radiation which forced many ships under construction to be left behind. After 2410, the radiation fell to safe levels. As the Federation and Starfleet was severally short of Starships, they refit as many of the semi-built vessels into 25th Century Standards while still keeping the feel of 23rd Century designs.

STO did a really good job explaining why DSC ships and their 25th Century versions would be flying around in the year 2410, which was basically a way to sell 23rd Century ships in the 25th century while at the same time explaining the new skins as they even said it would have been odd seeing these old designs punch above their weight class.

That's something I keep forgetting about as he took a concept art ship for STO and just fleshed it out. Nothing wrong with that. We've all done that....

The problem was iirc was that the Inquiry was originally planned as a stand-alone ship that Picrad snd crew would come across in S1. That plot point was dropped, but they already had the Inquiry. They then suddenly needed a Fleet of Starfleet ships for a Fleet stand off and then asked for some modifications to make it seem less "Copy and Paste" which the SFX team admitted that's how the scene was created....

One would say Starfleet should have the means to protect their assets, but the universe is not to be messed with, so Ican see events like that happening. It could be a nice story to tell too.

And after watching a pic of the Enterprise-F almost totally destroyed, I can see the Federation has found itself in trouble, so I understand.

Nice strategy indeed, quite the gamble too in and out of universe.

Yes, unfortunately as you say the ships were too advanced for the era, though a decade or two here or there isn't that much of an issue to me personally. It's the Titan-A and the ships in season 3 that feel more like TMP ships with their nacelles and styling what annoys me. I'm critical of ship design had the same issues with the NX being an Akira.

Yes unrealistic explanations. Model creation is an art form and it takes time and often many variations and changes to get the design right.

This makes sense in a way. Especially after the Mars attack. I just wished they made more changes in PIC to the designs like they did in STO with the major skin changes.

Atill we know Pic is a different timeline and years. We can see that as the life of the Enterprise-F and how it went cut short.

About the NX been the Akira, I know what you mean. That is why, while the 3d modeling was great, I didn't like the idea of a TMP Akira modelI once say, because that kills the First Contact fleet's innovation or orginality! Something, by default the Pic fleet lacks.

I agree.

All I know is they lost a good chunk of their fleet which I never bought. The majority of their fleet should've been out in service throughout the Federation. Not in drydock.

I'd also like to add there's prob too many producers putting their ideas in the pie hence nuTrek these days seems to be all over the place in terms of production quality and audience expectations. I for one am really tired of all the blatant fanservice and shock value.

PIC S3 I generally liked and sorta a step in the right direction for a true post-TNG series. Just wish their ship/design department had more thought put into it.

I'll drink to that! That's what it felt seeing the commercials for S3 of PiC. Built solely for fan service.

Being a huge STO fan, it sucks they changed the lore on a ton of ships when it would have been better to create their own designs.

It's not so much the Fleet but a good portion of their ship building and ship R&D capabilities. A similar situation would be some nation completely destroying the whole Port of Norfolk, Virginia (USA). The US Navy would the only company that can built and repair Nuclear Aircraft Carriers and the ability to design new ones. The USN would also lose their largest naval base which is directly connected to NATO Operations in the Europe Mainland.

Was that part of the STO timeline? As I liked the idea of Worf remaining as ambassador as mentioned in TNG and realized at the end of DS9. Totally going yolo against the destiny described by his son's adult-version.

The one time their are where trouble is and not like the typical "The Enterprise is the only ship in range" :lol2:

Well, considering how NuTrek has been, we can say we at least got something decent. Which is not great nor awful, just mediocre.

That totally makes sense! It is a very good analogy you said and I understand how and why the Synth attack was very bad for the Federation.

I wish more people did. They talk like moat of Starfleet was wiped out. Yes, a large portion was lost because that's where they were coordinating the Romulan Evacuation. But it was stated that Starfleet took any ship that was space worthy and brought ships from the mothball yard for this plan. Many of the ships used were not top of the line starship. A few were probably, but not enough to cripple the Fleet.

It's also an okay idea for reusing older designs and bring them up to modern standards, but like Majestic I feel the Titan A/Enterprise G was too TMP looking for the early 2400's. Don't get me wrong, it's a great design, one I'm looking forward to porting over to A2, but it's too like having a tank look like one from WW2 in service today with laser range finders, auto loaders, and drones. It still works, but a new design would make more practical sense as a designer would be pretty much needed to remake a tank to fit systems it was never designed to have.

Yes I agree, back in the day there was 1 or 2 who worked together over TNG, DS9 and VOY and so we saw consistency while still seeing new stuff each episode/season without it feeling out of era/show.

I'll drink to that! That's what it felt seeing the commercials for S3 of PiC. Built solely for fan service.

Totally agree. They made some unique ships in S1 for the Romulans why they couldn't do that for the others I have no idea.

Yeah unfortunately they gave the impression that Starfleet was struggling after the attack. Season 1 with Riker and the fleet at the end was another impression rather than having the usual mix fleet gave me the impression they were building the same class as they had lost so many. Throwing in some older designs like the Steamrunner, Akira, Sovereign, Nebula etc with the new ships would've made more sense to me.

No, it was in the books where he was slated to take over the 1701-E after Picard as he was it's first officer and had been offered a command like Riker in TNG but turned it down. My memory is a bit fuzzy but I was certain before they canned the novel verse Picard was retiring and Worf was about to be promoted and assumed command. Honestly I felt he should've taken on the 1701-F in Picard too. Killing the 1701-F like they did upset a lot of fans.

I like the idea of 7 of 9 getting command of the 1701-G just not the design and the fact it was the Titan-A that got the shaft rather than some unknown and unimportant ship.

I wish more people did. They talk like moat of Starfleet was wiped out. Yes, a large portion was lost because that's where they were coordinating the Romulan Evacuation.

It's a great design for the TMP/Lost era maybe even an older ship still in service in the TNG era that has been given a refit for the Dominion war or something but as a new ship to me personally it and it's fellow TMP like ships just don't fit. At least that's my personal take on it.

At least when Lower Decks did a new generation of Excelsiors it somewhat fit. Better than the Titan-A. I would've rather seen the design as an older refitted design that was pushed back into service after the attack on Mars to fill numbers maybe to helps evacuate as many Romulans as they could. Honestly the re-activation of older designs should've been a last ditch effort to save the Romulans after the attack. The Starfleet we know wouldn't give up on saving a planet they'd make sacrifices to save as many as possible. Even from a former enemy trying to turn them into a ally.

Hello:
I wish more people did. They talk like moat of Starfleet was wiped out. Yes, a large portion was lost because that's where they were coordinating the Romulan Evacuation. But it was stated that Starfleet took any ship that was space worthy and brought ships from the mothball yard for this plan. Many of the ships used were not top of the line starship. A few were probably, but not enough to cripple the Fleet.
Well, I can imagine they would that that way despite the huge fleet at the end of season3.

Don't worry, Idon't get you wrong since I have mention my first impression of the Titan-A was "What the frak!!!!!!!!" :lol2:
Yes I agree, back in the day there was 1 or 2 who worked together over TNG, DS9 and VOY and so we saw consistency while still seeing new stuff each episode/season without it feeling out of era/show.
That certainly explains it. But porducers were bad enough to stop "Year of Hell" from becoming a full-season arc.

Ohhh, ok I see. So it was like Star Wars, having a coninuation only for a new producer to come around and send it all into oblivion o_O .
About the Enterprise-F, I was upset too indeed.
I like the idea of 7 of 9 getting command of the 1701-G just not the design and the fact it was the Titan-A that got the shaft rather than some unknown and unimportant ship.
I just guess the Titan just didn't make such great deeds to deserve keeping it lineage o_O .

That last part is what the new producers missed indeed as that is what gives the Federation it's identity.
