• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Yesteryears Requires Some Suggestions!

Well, I've not got many names for anyone, other than the Federation as it happens. Simply because I haven't touched on them yet. When I do however, I shall let you know. :)

Thanks. :)

Do you need Tholian Names?
Yes we do, but we haven't really decided on how they should sound or what yet.

I am sure that in the Tholian Assembly, they'd have names for their ships, but do you? An example you may ask, the Breen. In Zero Hour, they aren't having names. I've completely removed the part where you'd enter their name, thus they'd either be shown as 'Unknown' or they wouldn't have anything in the place of names.

Thats not a bad idea actually. Might even use a numbering system like the stock Borg use.

Hmm, you need Gorn names? Perhaps I can be of some small assistance. While I don't have a clue as to what an actual Gorn ship's name should sound like, perhaps you can adapt these to your use:

"GMV Damodara" "GMV Malwa" "GMV Threshkreen"

Now, what's the acronym for vessels in the Tholian Assembly's navy? TAV or TAS? (Tholian Assembly Vessel or Ship?) Or am I completely off?

"TAS Albiren" "TAS Geshkol" "TAS Loskele"

Are these any help at all? I can always rip off some sci-fi novels for more - in fact, I already did - but I need to know that I'm moving in the right direction.

The Tholian use the TAS designiation. As for how they will sound or if they will have any names at all is yet decided. I will have to have a chat to Syf about it next time I see him online.

But the Gorn will have names for their ships. Those ones you have provided seem pretty close to some of the class names.

If that's the case, then I need to pull out my Posleen War novels by John Ringo . . .

"GMV Oolt'oos" "GMV Po'osleenar" "GMV Thresh"

Those names are also not bad. ;)

I'm glad you approve! Have some more names taken from John Ringo's novels:

"GMV Adenast" "GMV Ardan'aath" "GMV Edas'antai" "GMV Gamalada"
"GMV Kessanalt" "GMV Orna'adar" "GMV Po'osol" "GMV Sammadar"
"GMV Stenarnatta" "GMV Sten'lonoral" "GMV Tel'enaa" "GMV "Tenal'ont"

These are names taken from the glossary of John Ringo's Gust Front. Properly speaking, at least some credit should go to him, as he cooked them up.

Using a numbering system, at least for the Tholian (over the Breen) would probably work better than having no names at all as it happens.

You thought of an outcome yourself. Good Job :lol2:

We could always use Federation designations for lack of being able to properly say their names.

We could always use Federation designations for lack of being able to properly say their names.

In that case, what would the nature of the human designations be? Would there be some theme followed, such as mythological names and class designations?

Example: 'Roc class' heavy cruiser, with avian names for specific ships.

In the real world NATO forces use(ed) their own designations for Soviet Subs. Foxtrot, Romeo, Akula, Typhoon are all NATO names for Russian Sub Classes.

You can do something similiar for the Tholians or the breen.

That's what I'm thinking here. It is a semi-canon fact that the Federations designates names for ship classes of races it has little contact with. Just like NATO.

Now the question is which, if any, method (naming system/style) would anyone propose.

I suspect that Tholians would get jemstones as there designators.

For the Tholians, if you do use a numbering system, I'd suggest something that's not base-10, maybe base-6 or something, could show a bit more diversity...

I think the intro movie, assuming there is one, should have the opening theme from Wrath of Khan.
