Okay here is the deal, I am trying to complete the last major music files for Yesteryears. Now I have gone through all the Trek sound files I could and I haven't found anything suitable.

Is there anyone out there that could assist Yesteryears with some suitable examples of music (doesn't have to be Trek, I actually prefer if it wasn't) for some of the races featured in the mod.

Sources can be and of the following

-Names of both the music and composer.
-Music from other Trek games, note the files would have to be sent to me.
-Music samples of suitable music along with the name of both composer and the of the actual piece of music itself.
-The entire piece of music itself.

Currently I am looking for music for the Gorn and Romulans, though I am also looking for a replacement for the Terran music as well.

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated and if we end up using what you sent to us or suggested, your name will go down into the readme as a thank you for helping us.

Maj, I suggest you take a look at this website. It features free music of the Movie/PC-Game music composer Bill Brown:

http://billbrownmusic.com/

Not Trek, but a good soundtrack nevertheless.

Paul, unfortunately the song is too short and is not quite what I am after, but thanks for posting your suggestion.

Thanks for the link Intrepid, Syf has had a look at that site and send me some suggestions, I will be looking into this very shortly. ;)

Hello:
I'm sorry to begin this post a bit off-topic, but thank you very much for the link EAS_Intrepid, this guy made the music for the Windows XP I was looking for some quite some time :D
Returning to the topic, I may have another link, hopefully you may find some music worthy of your mod, I specially like the music of Greg Smith, but if you don't like it, you may still surf that page, it has tons of good music of many kinds, I wish you good luck with your music quest, we all know how important ii is.

Freeplay music is not free music. I have already inquired about the music. There is a licensing fee for any music on freeplay for use in game productions, freeware or not.

Hi Majestic.

I don't know how much the whole copyright issues affect inclusion so I don't know exactly what you are willing to use.

Naturally I assume you have already tried out all Trek movie soundtracks. For the Romulans at least, the themes played for Shinzon/Remans in the Nemesis soundtrack seems somewhat fitting for them, maybe there's a track that might suit your needs. But then again, you may have already checked these out and not found them appropriate for what you want.

For the Gorn I haven't a clue what to suggest.

The SW: Republic Commando tracks were great and many of them did not have SW-like tones. I downloaded the tracks that were made available to the public I think via the composer's (Jesse Harlin) website. However I might be mistaken, it was a while back that I got them.

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force had a decent companion soundtrack cd, if you can find someone with it maybe something might be fitting for Yesteryears.

The Gladiator (Hans Zimmer), Troy (James Horner), Last of the Mohicans (Trevor Jones/Randy Edelman), Glory (James Horner) and Children of Dune miniseries (Brian Tyler) soundtracks all had very compelling tracks though I couldn't really suggest any specific ones to suit a race in particular.

Sorry I didn't provide any specific songs and examples, but maybe that could help steer you in the right direction.

  • and the 4th race.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Because of suggestions here, we have a wider range of sources to get music for the mod from. I personally wish we could release the mod today, so you all can enjoy what we've been working on. But sadly, making this mod is going to take a lot more time. Stay tuned for updates.

Yesteryears Community Contribution

Well I know quite a few of you are following the progress of this mod. Well here I have a request for those of you interested in helping out.

I am asking anyone who is good with making up ship names to please lend a hand.

The format that I would like the ship names submitted in is as follows:

"shipname" "shipname" "shipname"

Just like in the odf files.

We really need some good sounding Gorn, Klingon, Cardassian, Tholian and Romulan names.

You can either submit them to me via PM or post them directly in this thread. Also your name will go into the readme for helping the 2A-A2 team out.

Majest, as someone who has been working on these for Zero Hour, I find it works well if you just put a load of letters together, and give it a name.

For Cardassians, I've found sticking with names beginning with K, G, C, M, H & P work pretty well. Don't ask why those letters, just that they do.

As for the Klingons, anything that does, or doesn't make sense, you can include. All you need to do, is put a few single quotation marks within the names. Likewise, use names of items you'd think of from Earth, but 'respell' them.

IE:
Dracula - Drakula
Eat Me - Eaat'Me
Pig **** - PIgg****tz

etc etc

Edit: The last one would help if you didn't filter out the word :p

This is for actual contributions by the community than just an idea thread. We would like to see if anyone wants to help with the part of making ship name lists. This task is quite big for just one person to work on. So, this is the member's chance to join in making this mod, in a small way.

Sorry, but the filters are needed. It saves the staff from having to edit the posts that people would just "forget" the rules. But the down side to filters is that they sometimes mistake ok words with not ok. We do this to protect the younger people from being subjected to non- intellectual words that are often heard outside the home.

I have some of the ships name already set up. Mainly the Federation and Terrans, as they use many of the same names.

But I am hoping to use as many new names as possible for the mod. To fill in the gaps I will be reusing stock names where necessary.

When I have time, I can (if you wish) list all of the names I am using for Zero Hour. They're in the .odf files at the moment, but I can pop them on here. Just would need to know though, is it Federation you are after, or other?

Thanks Sweldon and everyone else who has posted something.

As for your question Ash, we are looking for Klingon, Romulan, Gorn, Cardassian and Tholian names. We have the majority of Federation and Terran names completed, but if anyone has a few feel free to post them as they may come in handy.

I just want to add that these need to sound like they belong. And as for the Gorn, we are not using any Federation styled names, so no "Brontosaurus or Veloci-raptors".

Currently we are still working out how the Tholian names should sound, but I will get you a list of the Gorn class names and from there I am sure you can come up with some Gorn sounding names for the ships. ;)

Works for me. Ill see what I can hunt down for Tholian names. Theres gotta be something in Enterprise that can give us a hint. I actually picture them as a very insect like race when it comes to their hierarchy system with their fleets. SO itll be kinda like 8472 where there is a "queen" ship and "worker" ships and "army" ships kinda like an Ant colony or a Bee hive.

Edit: Did a quick check over on Memory Alpha. The only Tholian name I can find is "Loskene" the name of a Tholian Ambassador. Not much but at least it can give us something to start with.

Well, I've not got many names for anyone, other than the Federation as it happens. Simply because I haven't touched on them yet. When I do however, I shall let you know. :)

Do you need Tholian Names?

I am sure that in the Tholian Assembly, they'd have names for their ships, but do you? An example you may ask, the Breen. In Zero Hour, they aren't having names. I've completely removed the part where you'd enter their name, thus they'd either be shown as 'Unknown' or they wouldn't have anything in the place of names.

Just an idea. I agree that the Gorn need names, I just think the Tholian (alike the Breen) would work without them.

Hmm, you need Gorn names? Perhaps I can be of some small assistance. While I don't have a clue as to what an actual Gorn ship's name should sound like, perhaps you can adapt these to your use:

"GMV Damodara" "GMV Malwa" "GMV Threshkreen"

Now, what's the acronym for vessels in the Tholian Assembly's navy? TAV or TAS? (Tholian Assembly Vessel or Ship?) Or am I completely off?

"TAS Albiren" "TAS Geshkol" "TAS Loskele"

Are these any help at all? I can always rip off some sci-fi novels for more - in fact, I already did - but I need to know that I'm moving in the right direction.

For the Gorn I think we should be looking at words with lots of "ss" and "sh" sounds in them...

If that's the case, then I need to pull out my Posleen War novels by John Ringo . . .

"GMV Oolt'oos" "GMV Po'osleenar" "GMV Thresh"
