It began last night Majestic. As to the DVD release it will be released in three boxsets each with two discs:
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/mech/quicksearch.zml?f=title&q=Torchwood

Part One will be released on August 1, Part 2 September 5 and Part 3 October 3.

Meanwhile James Marsters (Spike in Buffy and Angel) is a guest star in season 2:
http://jamesmarsterslive.com/
"James is in town filming for the second series of UK sci-fi television favourite Torchwood.

He will be appearing as a guest star alongside leading actor John Barrowman in the BBC's adult spin-off of long-running television series Doctor Who.

Torchwood - an anagram of Doctor Who - is a secret task force that deals with alien encounters. John Barrowman plays mysterious multi-sexual time agent Captain Jack Harkness, who leads the Cardiff-based team. Series creator Russell T Davies, winner of the 2006 BAFTA Dennis Potter Award for Outstanding Writing for Television, has also written Casanova, Dr Who and Queer As Folk.

The episode will be broadcast in the UK by the BBC early next year."

James Marsters is not the first Buffy star to be in the Whoniverse as Tony Head (Giles in Buffy) was in Doctor Who in School Reunion and currently in the animated adventure The Infinite Quest as well as the audios Death Comes To Time & the Excelis trilogy.

You're Welcome.

I have been told that the Ten Torchwood site had Torchwood Declassified basically the Torchwood version of Doctor Who Confidential as it looks at the making of each of the 13 episodes of the season. However checked with the Ten site and the first episode of Declassified is no longer there.

However Declassified is available on Youtube:

Michael Idato in the SMH Guide gave the episode a thumbs up even though he says that it starts in a predictable way with the crash landing of a meteor. However he does say that that the series shakes off such creaky kick-offs in coming weeks.

In the latest SFX Doctor Who special which has been on sale recently its focus was on the current Whoniverse or as they called it NuWhoniverse. It includes a look at all the NuWhoniverse episodes that has been shown so far up to the special's publication.

Each episode has an Anatomy of An Episode. Basically it tells you on a pie chart what elements of the episode that is incorporated in it.

The episodes that are included in the special include ones not yet shown on Australian TV: All of Torchwood season 1 except the first episode which was on last week, the Doctor Who 2006 Christmas Special and the first Sarah Jane Adventures episode Invasion of the Bane. With the exception of the Sarah Jane Adventures episodes all these episodes it is definitely known that they will be shown in the very forseeable future on Australian TV.

Anatomy of tonight's episode Day One is this:
Buffy* 37%
Death By Sex 22%
Death-Free Sex 18%
Voyeurism 14%
Dust 9%

Actually this episode looks like an Angel episode.

SFX's anatomy of tonight's episode Ghost Machine:
Ghosts 25%
Alien Technology 25%
Splott 22%
Gun Porn 17&
Hoodie Chavs 8%
Lady Macbeth 3%

Also this episode guest stars a sci fi legend. Depending on one's sci fi viewing you may or may not who he is upon seeing him.

Thread of Ghost Machine with some spoilers is here:

Ghost Machine:
This is the 727th Whoniverse episode that has been broadcast (in the UK) and therefore this is the Whoniverse episode that overtook the total number of 726 Star Trek TV episodes.

In April it was incorrectly reported by the official Doctor Who BBC site and Outpost Gallifrey that the season 33 Doctor Who episode Gridlock (to be shown on the ABC July 14) was the one that overtook all those Star Trek episodes. The mistake is that whereas the count for Star Trek was for all things Star Trek related, the Doctor Who count was only for Doctor Who and not for its spin-offs as well. This is why Ghost Machine is the one that overtook Star Trek.

The sci fi legend that guest stars in Ghost Machine is Gareth Thomas (old Ed Morgan) who was Blake in Blake's 7. on audio he appeared in the Doctor Who season 27 opener Storm Warning and then in the first two series of Dalek Empire from Big Finish Productions. Ghost Machine marks Thomas' debut in a televised episode set in the Whoniverse

I just found out to my surprise at Outpost Gallifrey that Alan Dale is a guest star in season 2.

I don't watch his current show Ugly Betty but I have seen him recently in The O.C. on Arena plus on Where Are They Now on 7 where he reminisces on his old show The Young Doctors. Nice for him to join the Whoniverse and he has now joined the list of actors to have appeared in both the Whoniverse and Star Trek as he had a part in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Oh my there was a delay of 55 minutes before Greeks Bearing Gifts were shown due to the longer than expected ending of Big Brother 2007.

Interestingly Sci Fi showed the Xena episode Beware Greeks Bearing Gifts which featured the Trojan horse. The Trojan horse was also seen in the Whoniverse in the season 3 Doctor Who serial The Myth Makers.

Unfortunately Torchwood is not on next week as something else has been schedule. Uncertain whether it will return the week after.

The upside for me of no Torchwood next week is that I get to watch Shark & Boston Legal on 7 without the Torchwood clash on 10.

Torchwood's move to its new slot is mentioned by Andrew Mercado in today's Sydney Sunday Telegraph:
"Ten's Tomb raider
Tomorrow night [Monday August 6] Ten tries to spoil ER and Shark's debuts by screening the James Cameron special The Lost Tomb of Jesus.
So what's happened to Torchwood? Yep it's been dumped to midnights on Tuesdays, [technically it's Wednesdays] confirming every sci-fi fan's worst fears that the Doctor Who spin-off would eventually end up in late-night hell, along with The 4400 and Battlestar Galactica.
Couldn't Ten have given it one last try in prime time on a Saturday night instead of those unimaginative Law & Order and NCIS repeats?"
Doctor Who and Torchwood both on Saturdays would have been a great idea.

I have mixed feelings about Torchwood's new slot. The new slot is really an inconvenience for me as I have a class early on Wednesday mornings. However since it is no longer on Mondays there is no clash with Shark & Boston Legal on 7, so Torchwood's move to its new slot is not all that bad for me.

SFX's anatomy of They Keep Killing* coming on hours from now at midnight:
Person getting killed* 35%
Story Arc 25%
Death 20%
Blood and Guts 15%
Reanimator** 5%

*There is one more word to the episode's title which reveals on who keeps on getting killed which I have decided to let people see for themselves when the episode is on.

**Making a little digression here with the mention of Reanimator as I would like to say that I got the DVD of the movie as I like the lead female actor in it, the always beautiful Barbara Crampton whom I first felt in love with due to an infamous scene in the movie Fraternity Vacation. Those who have seen Fraternity Vacation will know what I mean.

I have finally seen the first 5 episodes of the series. I was a little disappointed, I was excepting it to be set in the Torchwood tower like in Doctor who.

Secondly I was expecting it to let us know how Captain Jack managed to make his way to 21st Century Earth, as last we saw him he was stuck in the future just after Rose stopped the Darlek invasion.

I do hope they reveal this information and perhaps have a crossover with Doctor Who at some point. You can tell the series is set for adults, just by the language and sexual references in the episodes. That being said I still pefer Doctor Who over torchwood.

SFX's anatomy of Random Shoes coming on hours from now at midnight:
Sentimentality 64%
Ghost* 27%
The Whoniverse 6%
Splott 2%
Tosh 1%

*Actually when I saw Random Shoes months ago, I was thinking of Ghost Whisperer. Funny that Ghost Whisperer will be back on 7 next week from its second season.

Another coincidence is that last night I saw an shoe ad showing a lot of shoes and this episode's name is called Random Shoes.

This episode was written by Noel Clarke, formerly Mickey Smith in the parent Doctor Who series. Coincidentally he has recently been cast in another Doctor Who spin-off albeit on audio as the lead character in Dalek Empire IV: The Fearless.

Fun broadcasting fact: Between the broadcast of Combat, the eleventh episode of the first season in the UK on December 24 2006 and the final two episodes of the season on the same night on January 1 2007, two non-Torchwood Whoniverse episodes were shown in the UK, Doctor Who: The Runaway Bride & The Sarah Jane Adventures: Invasion of the Bane.

Since not everyone who watched Doctor Who & Sarah Jane Adventures watches Torchwood as it is not meant for kids, the viewing of the said two Whoniverse episodes comes under two perspectives. Both The Runaway Bride & Invasion of the Bane mentions Torchwood although not by name for the latter. Therefore those who have seen Torchwood the series when watching the two other Whoniverse episodes, they have gotten used to Torchwood the series as 11 episodes have already been shown. Those who did not watch Torchwood the series, their last memory of Torchwood at the time would have been the Doctor Who season 32 finale Doomsday.

After this episode is broadcast, John Barrowman as Captain Jack would next be seen in this weekend's Doctor Who episode Utopia on Saturday September 8 7:30pm on the ABC. Unfortunately due to bad sceduling (from either 10 or ABC depending on one's viewpoint) viewers will feel disjointed seeing Jack in Doctor Who before the Torchwood season 1 finale. The Torchwood season 1 finale to be shown next week some nights after the Doctor Who episode actually leads up to Jack's Doctor Who return.

So if you want to have things neat and tidy, the only advice I can give you is to record Utopia and don't watch it until you see the Torchwood season finale next week. However please note if you record Utopia and don't watch it on the night, it will affect ratings for the parent programme as I am told ratings do not take into account timeshift viewing.

Torchwood is coming to UKTV (Australia).

In an ad, the words Doctor Who appeared on screen before the letters of the words were rearranged to form Torchwood.

It then revealed that it will debut on UKTV on Tuesday December 11.

The ad was accompanied by a dialogue delivered by John Barrowman as Captain Jack that was used as a voiceover in which he asked whether somebody is behind you in an empty room. (Can't remember which episode this was from.)

The name of the first episode of season 2 is called Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and SFX has given a glowing review of it:
SFX

No major spoilers but it does gives hints on how the episode will be played out.

Also BBC Two is planning to aired a cutdown version of season 2 for kids:
Each cutdown episode will air a few days after the original version:
SyFy Portal

No word on whether the same will be done for season 1.

To Australian viewers:
It's December 11 and Torchwood makes its UKTV debut tonight.

Torchwood's schedule at UKTV will clash with Shark on 7. The reason why I mentioned this is that Shark made its debut on 7 on the Monday after the one that Torchwood was last shown on 10 (with Countrycide) before 10 relegated Torchwood to the Wednesday midnight slot.

So the irony is that Shark's debut on 7 narrowly missed out the clash with Torchwood on 10 but Torchwood is now making its debut on UKTV when Shark had already started its run on 7!
