[Request] Ship Request Thread

Want a ship made? Going to ask nicely and not expect it to be done? Have reference images of the design you want?

Then ask away here.

The idea comes from @Rifraf who contacted me about this. Considering A2F is effectively dead it's probably about time to do something like this here on MSFC.

Pretty simple, provide reference material (as attachments not links), ask nicely and provide as much information and then sit back and wait to see if someone wants to take your request up.

Remember modelers are pretty scarce now days in this community. Many are doing their own projects, or have retired from the scene. We all have real life's and interests, so we may only take up models that interest us.

Anyway happy requesting and best of luck.

Looks like a pretty straight forward kitbash. An Excelsior/Miranda with a shrunken secondary hull, and parts of a Constellation retrofit stuck to the bottom. Do you have the ability to take a ship and add it to the game if you only have a model(SOD) and textures? Or are you requesting a whole ship mod to add it to Armada 2 entirel?

unfortunatley I entirely lack any ability to actually create a ship model. especially given the way yhe impulse drive is layed out. I have never been able to get the hang of creating a ship from scratch

sfc would also be good as well..Like I said if I had the skills I could do this myself...sadly I'm lucky I can hit the button to render a shot of a starship, or even turn the game on! LOL

yup. thats the one. Like I said I Have no ability to do the job myself... I have tried for YEARS to get this one done...thus far no luck..I used to chat with the ships designer....

I would like to see the Premonition redone for the fleet operations mod.

As in the same style of fleet ops or a premonition model available for use in fleet operations?

same kinda style and for use in fleet ops. I thought it was a cool ship back in the day. Would love to see it updated.

Hmm, well the easiest way to do that would probably be to take Aad's Premonition model (this one), modify the textures to try and match the FO texture style and add whatever glows it needs to fit into FO.... then write up the ODFs for it - one for each promotion level as needed in FO if I remember correctly, which is annoying, but not difficult.

Yeah, that would be the easiest way, but got to make about 30 posts before that can happen. PS. What program should I use to edit a .SOD file in Armada 2 and is it simple enough to learn, or do I need a Bachelors in programming?

SODs are 3D models, so you'd need an understanding of 3D modeling and you'd need 3D modeling software that can work with the model format of your choice. Luckily, for basic changes, you can also just ask someone in the community who has all of the above

If you are looking to add the Premonition to fleet ops all you will need to do is write the odf files. There is already a Premonition.sod included in fleet ops. Its in the sod file and the file name is fed_premonition.sod

Thank you for that info. But I already found the premonition in the files, but I do not have the capability to give it the FO look and feel. It also needs a build button which I don't know how to do either. I can get it to build, it just has a blank build button . Thanks again.

Just steal the build button and wire frame from A2 that should get your premonition up and flying until you can get all the FO upgrades. Plus this way you can work on the odf files which for FO are a LOT!

Build buttons and wire frames are just textures referenced in the sprites file, so that is easy to do.

Thats probably beyond my skill set. I just want to give the sovereign purple torpedos in FO and download some ships I've seen on here and maybe conversate with a few people and if I'm really lucky someone will update the Premonition.

I would offer, but I only do paid work these days due to the economy. I'm not sure how well I could do the textures to match FO style, but I'd give it'd do my best.
