Yahoo has a list of 14 suggestions for the new captain. Most of them are pretty horrible, but one of them, Ken Watanabe, sounded great to me. Anybody else have thoughts on who should play the captain?
Other than that, I'd like to see more species represented on the crew than TOS or TNG had. The TOS, TNG, and VOY crews were almost entirely human with the majority of the non-human crew being main cast members. ENT is acceptable since it was about Earth Starfleet rather than Federation Starfleet and DS9 actually had a generally diverse selection of Starfleet extras.
And quit with the part-human characters and characters that want to be more human or become more human over time as 'natural character development'. It's been beat to death by now. Between Spock, Alexander, Seven, Troi, and Torres for the part-humans, Data, Odo, Seven and (to a lesser extent) Torres for the want-to-be-more-human characters, and Tuvok and T'pol encouraged or railroaded into being more human, we don't actually see much of the alien crew members' different cultures. What's the point of putting a vulcan on the crew if you're going to take every opportunity to make them less vulcan? For that matter, these people outnumber main and recurring alien characters on everything except DS9. Not that alien characters can't have culture similar to ours or that alien characters should be stereotypes, but just develop them a bit. Worf and Kira were good representatives of their cultures without being overly stereotypical. Worf was more straight-laced and humorless than the average Klingon and Kira was much more angry and confrontational than most other bajoran characters.
Anyway, thoughts on when it should be? Post-Nemesis, Lost Era, between ENT and TOS, etc?
