Well I ran out of things to do last week so I started working on textures for a mesh that hasn't seen any love in two years. Back home now so I could throw them on the mesh. Anyone remember the Eclipse?

Oi, that's a pretty sweet stealth design. Before the UK got conned into the F-35 program, the MoD's Future Offensive Air System (FOAS) jet designs toyed with a FSW planform among other radical things.

Thank you, one day I might even finish it :lol2:
I think the reason I stopped was because I got stuck with the F2 model. I was finding it difficult to fit canards in a way that was both stealthy and aesthetically pleasing.
As for FOAS, I once saw some models up at Cranfield. Some were... more feasible than others...

I felt like working on a starship, so here's an afternoons effort reworking Hellkites Resolution so that it only separates into two bits. Still unfinished but a lot closer to his drawing now. The comparison ships are the Seeker and Aads Prometheus, roughly to scale.

EDIT - for those interested in such things, she currently works out at about 3200 polies.

She turned out great (though I would have inverted the pylons). Once this is made, what are you going to do or is this more of a fun thing?

The intent will be to release a low poly version of the model, hopefully ready for A2. If I like what I see then I may uptier it and make a high poly mesh for shapeways, but I've really struggled to make my meshes work. Of course this is all dependent on time...

After yesterday I decided it was waaaay to hot and sunny to be attacking my tree again. And I felt too lazy to work on anything complicated, so I finished UVing my Excelsior. Now the big question is, what to call it? I'm thinking something Andorian (or at least not Human). Any suggestions?

Thank you. It's pretty much a case of texturing now. But we're in the middle of the British summer (and it's actually a hot one this year) so I'm making the most of the good weather.

I'm afraid that it's temporarily on hold while I work on a new commission. Don't worry I haven't forgotten it.

As previously mentioned, Jetfreak and I have been working a new commission. The USS Saratoga, an alt-universe science vessel. This one stands at about 6600 polygons and yes before anyone asks I've already been working on a reduced one for A2 which stands about about 3500. I'm also still working on an upscaled version which will be about 70000 polygons.

I was bored and RJB inspired me to dig out my Whitestar. So, orthos. Just because I can. And the quality still holds up against my newer meshes despite it being several years old.

I'm sure I liked this on DeviantArt also. The whitestar was always one of my favorite designs from the show and even for a older model of yours it has held up great.

Thank you. I'm (slowly) going to work through all my models to make orthos - at least those worth doing. Starting with...

Still the single most realistic starfighter design of all time. And yours looks outstanding.

Your White Star looks like it could've jumped directly from a scene in the series.

But your Starfury is another thing altogether, I deeply love that fighter something wicked. It is 2nd in my top five starfighters of all time.

Thank you, the Starfury is still one of my favorites too. I must do some more work with it. And I may now have some time - the high poly version of the Delphis is done! (At least I'm not touching it again!)

Yes, the Starfury just has something that hasn't quite ever been replicated by fighters in other shows. Seeing the Starfury doing combat maneuvers still makes my jaw drop. Aaaaand now I'm going to have to re-install "I've Found Her", the B5 TC built from Freespace 2, so I can get my Starfury flying itch scratched. Ugh!

And OMG, the Delphis look terrific. I already have that ship in my personal A2 build as the Kelvin timeline Generation 3 Destroyer. Your released version didn't have registries and I always find a ship without them to seem lacking somehow, so I put my own very crappy ones. Looking at your high poly model, I find it hilarious that I actually put them in the correct place! LOL. Well, except the under the saucer one, that I didn't do.

Anyway terrific job, love the Delphis.

I remember I Found Her, I need to get it up on my high end PC ;)
The Delphis turned from interesting distraction to royal pain in the ass. But it has turned out quite well and it's given me the basis for a JJ set of nacelles.
But in other news, various posts inspired me to dig out and tinker with another long running project. Many moons ago I worked on the Block II Intrepid. It was one of my earlier attempts at a Federation Starship and, while I was pleased with her at the time, I've become more and more irritated by certain shortcomings, especially given things I did with the Seeker and Midway. So I started tinkering with the design, mostly to see if I could retrofit it with my "slipstream" nacelles but also to fix the impulse drives and a number of other quality of life updates. After some work today it's now starting to look presentable, so here's a first look at the Block III.
(And no, there won't be saucer separation. I've decided the whole idea is ridiculous and was only necessary because the author dug herself a plot hole that they otherwise couldnt get out of.)

So what's different about Intrepid Block III, after all it looks pretty similar to the Block II just with new nacelles.
Well, it is. I went back to the Block II base mesh and started tweaking things using new build methods I had discovered since building it.
There are three main areas that I learned to hate about Block II.
1. The bridge area. Originally I had wanted to increase the internal volume of the Intrepid by filling in the steps and making a more blended design. But I think I went a bit far. So now I've added in some detailing to the decks around the bridge and I've reintroduced the spine, which I've tried to combine with the upper decks.
2. The saucer impulse engines. I originally put these in because of that stupid saucer separation in the book. However I've never really liked the Intrepids pylon mounted drives either. So I've kept the saucer units but I've increased the size of the lower saucer "bump" so that the drive units combine with it. I've also put some auxiliary thruster type things on the pylon more reminiscent of the Nova and Sovereign.
3. The shuttlebay. The Intrepid shuttlebay is just stupid, it's like they forgot to build the back bit of the ship and then put a tiny garage door on there, it's a waste of space. The Block II extended the hull to encompass more of the fantail and put in clamshell doors - but I didn't do a particularly good job of it. So Block III has had a quality of life rebuild of the shuttlebay. Still not perfect but miles better than before.
4. (So I can't count) The nacelles. Initially I was pleased with the nacelles on the Block II. They weren't as tiny as the original Intrepid and the curved pylons fitted with the design philosophy of the hull. Problem is, it *still* didin't look balanced and the new nacelles (while based on the Nova) didn't really fit in well. Cue the Seeker nacelles sized and positioned to balance out the hull better and straight swept forward pylons to give a more aggressive appearance.
Thats all for today - time for World of Warships!
