I was talking to my other clients on Discord and the uhhh "reservations" about PIC is more widespread among fans.

There's a general consensus that says:

The Titan-A is actually a recomissioned old hull, so that explains the TMP look and forget any ideas for the Enterprise-G renaming, should have stuck to USS Picard as originally planned.
The Enterprise-F make it brand new for Frontier Day, she gets roughed up by the fighting but continues on as the flagship. Put 7 of 9 in the chair.
I can kinda stand the Enterprise-D nostalgia bait, we can keep that story intact.

Probably just a cleaner timeline, that way the Ent-G can still be reserved for the future.

Ohhh, ok I see. So it was like Star Wars, having a coninuation only for a new producer to come around and send it all into oblivion o_O .
About the Enterprise-F, I was upset too indeed.
Yes, it was really enjoyable with some mass crossover events too. The TNG, ENT and VOY novel series were pretty awesome, better than the canon stuff tying into the new series. I haven't bought a book since.

I just guess the Titan just didn't make such great deeds to deserve keeping it lineage o_O .
I don't believe that myself.

I do like that idea. Should've keep the Titan-A as the Titan-A and as you said for the Enterprise. I'm not overly a big fan of the Odyssey but much prefer it to the 1701-G that we got. I could live with it much easier and without complaint haha.

I personally think that, given the original rather tragic ending the Big D got in the movies, she deserved to come back and kick butt one last time. And it was glorious. :D

my issue with current Star Trek from the mid to late 24th century is how disposable Federation starship designs became.. every 4 to 5 years they were retiring entire classes of starships. With the exception of the Wolf 359 Galaxy TestBed ships... none of the designs seen during the Dominion War were really seen again. Ships like the Saber, Steamrunner, Akira, Intrepid, Defiant, Nebula, Norway, Galaxy.. all of these designs are practically gone by 2400. Hell the Luna Class never even got an on-screen appearance in its OG configuration, other than Lower Decks. But again thats like 2380s..

Unless... the theory that Starfleet only gathered their S-Class, superstar ships for Frontier Day in PicS3.. which numbered at around 350 ships.. and the rest of the fleet were out patroling as usual. But thats never made clear on screen.

I don't want to hi-jack Majestic's thread, just adding my two sense in there. I feel like all of those front line ships I mentioned are either retired or have just been delegated to lower ratings of duty.. But in the early days of Kirk's Enterprise.. the Connie did everything.. it feels like by the 24th century, they really wanted more specialized designs for things.. as opposed to the 'one size fits all' of the Constitution Class and Excelsior Class.

Yet the Klingons are still pushing out Vorchas, Birds of Prey and even Ktingas for the most part over 100 years later..(in the case of the BOP and Ktinga)

My problem about the Enteprise-F was it was way too conveniently retired. That ship has the grandieur we never saw in that series, the closest to that would have been the USS Stargazer.

Indeed sounds like the old Star Wars EU, way too good for the new "ideas" producers wanted to push.
I don't believe that myself.
That is what Producers likely believed, that is why I made that face. So it was not really my opinion.

Amen to that! :ori3:

Perhaps they wanted to make a full visual update on the fleet, like when "First Contact" was premiered and we were shown all the new classes?

I agree, it was never stated. But at least we've got to see an Armada2-style starbase assault :D

Nothing wrong with specialization, as you cannot just have a fleet of Jacks-of-all-trades.

I remember Andorians wondered why humans won't develop a ship and stick with it, instead of changing it so often :D .

Yes that was an issue. I mean they should still be numerous in 2400. I can understand in TNG that they were reinventing the fleet so to speak after a golden age of peace into a more defensive footing having had several conflicts from the Cardassian boarder wars, to the Borg attack, Klingon civil war, re-emergence of the Romulans, Klingon-Cardassian war and finally the Dominion threat so it makes sense they'd be focusing on new designs etc but they really should be making the bulk of the fleet in PIC, with designs like the OG Miranda, Excelsior finally laid to mothballs.

It's all good, eventually I'll probably split it into it's own thread. SO don't worry about it ;)

Yes, they still imo should be seen as the main part of the fleet. Akira's, Sovereigns, Galaxy's etc should really be seen quite a bit. Refitted over the years but still highly viable. It's only been 40 years since the start of TNG. I can understand not having jack of all trades, but that's what the Akira, Steamrunner, Defiant etc were for.

Yes I agree. The rest of the new designs are rather underwhelming.

Yes it was so much better than PIC and STD. They don't seem to like competition. The book authors always seem to write better stories than the TV producers manage almost like they trying to keep the stories 'meh' so they don't have to work harder to out produce themselves.

Yes, this is one of my pet peeves as well. We're supposed to believe that in the time frame of the Dominion War, almost 100 years after the launch of the original USS Excelsior, the Excelsior class is still a ubiquitous ship design, fighting on the front lines (together with the even older Miranda class!) in considerable numbers. Yet the Galaxy and Nebula classes and their contemporaries disappear completely within a few decades after their introduction.

Hello:
A friend said it is because of much wear and tear as space is hostile to technology. But that argument indeed falls short considering how Mirandas and Excelsiors fought as far as into the Dominion war. If those ships could make it that far, why won't the First Contact fleet be out there by the 2400's? My only guess is to make Pic have a visual distinctiveness.

While the amount of Mirandas could be put down to mothballs being reactivated for numbers in a war footing, the fact that the Excelsior was massively used in TNG for all sorts of low end duties shows that they were still a substantial part of the fleet and as such the TNG designs and First Contact designs really should've been the substantial part of the fleet in 2400.

It's annoying as they're all great designs and really doesn't make sense. It's disheartening that the producers really don't have a clue what they're doing.

If there is a new series, set in that period, then we will see if this trend will continue or not.
