Well Kat and I went to see this yesterday. I must admit it was an awesome movie. I won't give too much away but it does show why they started the earlier X-men First Class and prequels.

I really liked how they used this movie to fix the mistakes done by the pre-Marvel Entertainment companies, essentially erasing X-men 2 and 3 while also keeping them as canon.

I only found 1 flaw in this movie and it was the appearance of Patrick Steward as Xavier in the war torn future, which if everyone remembers was killed in X-men 3: Last Stand. The earlier X-Men movies to my knowledge are still canon and part of the franchise.

I am looking forward to X-men Apocalypse that is due out in 2016 and is suppose to have Gambit who is rumoured/confirmed to be played by Channing Tatum instead of the earlier Taylor Kitsch who played a younger version in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

With the changes in the timeline it makes wonder what X-men Apocalypse will be like. Will it be set in the 70's-80's with the First Class team, or will it be set in the future with Xavier's school, Wolverine etc. Or will it have flash backs to the earlier team but mainly be set in the future original cast era. They have left a lot open here and have many ways to go.

If anyone is going to see the movie, don't forget to wait for the end credits, Kat and I missed that, but were able to watch the clip on youtube. It features Apocalypse one of the villains from the comic books.

Some info about it:

Who is Apocalypse?

The Marvel Comics Database reveals that his given name, En Sabah Nur, translates as "The First One," suggesting that Apocalypse might be the first mutant in existence. He was born with grey skin and blue traces around his features, and had powerful gifts from the time of his birth. Apocalypse’s various powers include flight, invulnerability, superhuman strength, teleportation, telekinesis … basically, he’s invincible. His roots trace back to ancient Egypt (hence, the setting of the Days of Future Past clip), and his difficult lifespan included bouts of enslavement, and fierce battles for power. Along the way, he created his Four Horsemen – Pestilence, Famine, War and Death – who were seen in silhouette in the X-Men: Days of Future tease. So while we don’t know how deep into Apocalypse’s rich history the movie will plunge, as there are countless volumes of X-Men comics on which the film can draw (literally, at one point, Apocalypse fights and kills Dracula in the X-Men books), we assume that the evil mutant’s plan to conquer and enslave unworthy mutants will be part of the villain’s on-screen motivations.

Just introducing Apocalypse into this world opens them doors to so many new possibilities – from Cable or X-Factor to the Alliance of Evil – that our heads are swimming with X-Men ideas that easily could keep Fox in business for the next 10 years.

I am so stoked to see this movie. I've seen clips online and such and it looks incredible. I hated how X3 ended like they just wanted it over.

Yeah X3 was a disappointment, it had some awesome fighting scenes but really was a franchise killer. This one was awesome and really has helped to cement by interest with X-men again.

That was bothering me too. But they show that Xavier survived by transplanting to his mind to another body in the post credits scene on X3. I'm just assuming they used some sort of bizarre mutant science to get his body looking like it did by the end of The Wolverine.

I haven't seen the Wolverine yet, but what you suggested I have to assume is the only thing they could do. Even that is a little far fetched but then again look at the future bad guys in the latest movie. Don't worry I am keeping spoilers away from those who haven't seen it yet. :D

I'm happy that they really just tabula rasa X3 with this movie

I finally saw this over the weekend and loved it. Agree with Majestic in the first post about the Patrick Stewart Resurrection, but still a good show. It's funny that I never actually finished the last 20-30 minutes of First Class. :lol2: Still didn't diminish my enjoyment though. May have to have a marathon weekend and watch them all in order again.

The next one is rumoured to be set in the 80's and Hugh Jackman will be in it as Wolverine again.

I know it's selfish, but I wish all the original cast would be in it. Being on the outside looking in I wish the original cast would just keep making new ones and never leave and what not. :) I know it's silly, but I have to go to the same job every day and I rarely get more money when I ask for it like the big stars.

As the movie neared the end I was hopeful and was rewarded with all the cameos in the last few scenes. I thought that it tied everything together very nicely

I agree I want to see the originals back. But considering every First Class movie leaps ahead a decade (First Class was in the 60's, Days of Future Past in the 70's, Apocalypse is supposed to be in the 80's) it will get to a point where it will be the original actors again basically rebooted with the same actors hopefully due to the timeline changes in the last movie.

I say there is only 1 or 2 more First Class movies before the originals take center stage again. :D

as comics collector with mostly X-men comics since the late 90's and owning the book where the history of Apocalypse is told, i must say that the 80's are not the correct timeframe, for anything that has to do with Apocalypse itself. i didn't like the Days of Future past movie that much but my favorite char from Age of Apocalypse was in, which made it a bit better for me and this char is Blink :excited:
don't own the comics where the original Days of future past story was in, shame on me :lol2:
and X-Men first class was by far not much related to the original first class of the X-Men,
these where Marvel Girl - Jean Grey, Cyclops, Iceman, Beast and Angel-Warren Worthington III.

Well adapting it to a movie audience obvious means they do things differently. I however wish they would go back to the original team and leave the past in the past. I prefer the Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops generation.

Well Gambit is in the next one. However not a fan of who they choose to play him.

Oh cool. Always loved Gambit. Who's set to play him?

As for Nightcrawler I hope Alan Cumming reprises his role if they have his character back.

Channing Tatum I much would have preferred Taylor Kitsch who played him originally in X-men Origins: Wolverine.

Channing Tatum is such a wrong choise for Gambit, Taylor Kitsch fits that much more. :exter:

My thoughts exactly. Taylor Kitsch had the feel and look for Gambit down in my opinion.

Ditto on the Kitsch opinion. I like Tatum as an actor, but he is not the best choice for this particular role.

Do we have any other new casting decisions?

My views exactly.

Not that I know of, Quicksilver from the last movie is rumoured to be in it, I think it's the same actor not too sure. There isn't a whole lot of news currently about it.

Personally, I was not impressed with Tayler Kitsch. Funny thing is, Tatum was supposed to be Gambit in Wolverine but scheduling conflict with GI Joe forced him out.
