• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Great :)

A1 version nearly done.

If anyone interested in seeing damage effects applied to the model? That is, hull breaches, scars, tears, so on..

Fixed some very minor mesh errors that you can't see in 3dsmax, but shows up in Armada. Added a few extra glow effects, and brought down the base poly count by some 150 polies (no visible changes, just hidden stuff)

A2 version just needs a tweaked texture map with the alpha channel. Should be able to upload the SODs sometime tomorrow.

Cheers

I'd say if you are setting her up go the full mile and do the damage effects you mentioned. I had recently looked over FahreS' Planck Class and thought why didn't I think of that.

Many thanks Mr. V for taking this one to the goal line for the community.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Well, I am still trying to find a modeler right now. As I am planning to make both a Reman and then a Romulan-Adapted version. I just need someone who does not mind converting with no poly reduction. I am going to make Hardpoint maps soon so that some of the work is done. (idk how much work I eliminate when it comes to figuring out the HP placement. But I think that texturing and concepting is a fair share.)

I'm having some problems getting the model to show up properly in A2. Not sure at the moment whether its my misunderstanding of how the lighting stuff works in A2, or... well, I'm not sure what else it could be. I doubt that A2 has major bugs such as this:
redread3.png

Areas where the texture map folds over are shadowed; for example, where the texture is flipped symmetrically about the center of the entire ship, there is a patchy dark band that shouldn't be there. Shows up in-game as well, so its not just a Storm issue. After I fix that, I'll have the SODs and their accessories uploaded here.

Cheers

That dark shot on the model could be a smoothing error, happens a lot with A2 from my past experience. These days I generally unweld the entire model and use the !lambert_texturename_!phong tag on my textures. It's an acceptable compromise for me and seems to work well enough and takes a lot of the headache away with converting.

Also don't use Storm3D viewer for test ships, the A2 version is pretty rough and doesn't show the models up as they would be in-game.

Hmm.. I should try unwelding it along the symmetry planes. No need to do that to the whole model (will nearly triple the vertex count!). As this problem seems to occur only where the texture map is folded over, I'll try to unweld just the trouble areas. Quite bizzare, but I never really dealt with A2 stuff. Perhaps I should sleep first, somehow that clock ticked way past midnight ;)

I use MS3D and I often thought it was just an issue with the program. It ain't perfect but for the price one can't complain.

Yeah perhaps a fresh mind might help. It's only approaching 6PM for me.

Okee, good news

The "dark patches" problem seems to be resolved. The exact cause is rather technical, so I'll save the discussion for the update to the SOD exporter script.

Meanwhile, here's a screenshot of the A2 rendered Dreadnought:

I will send the files to pepperman for a glance, and then have then uploaded on here in time for Christmass :D

I just looked at the files and they look great. Turning them around pretty quickly in hopes that Saint Nick can put a bow on it and place it under the tree for Christmas. Many thanks Mr. Vulcan for taking this one to the endzone. Email and PM sent to the staff with the updated files
