Who's your favorite races in the SCI FI World?

i dont who will agree with me on this (other than Borg_Queen >.>)

after hours of research i have decided that the borg are the best race in the whole history of SCI-FI they came 1st in my top ten list

6.Vulcan's=Star Trek

The Borg came first because well....search them up on memory alpha and you get the ansure

i tend to disagree.

i don't think you can really gage the BEST Race in ALL of Science fiction.

no offense. but your research looks to be a little one sided. as 6 of your choices come from Gene Roddenberry related works. (Star Trek and Andromeda.)

but while the Borg are Powerful. i would like to see them go off against The Shadows or the Wraith.

I completely agree. Each show has something that makes it different from all others (even if its set in the same universe) - and it is that which makes them all incomparable. It's like comparing a car to a lorry - they both have wheels, an engine and get people places; but necessity has resulted in a different design, and environment has caused considerable differences across the board.

Whilst the Borg are interesting and certainly very effective plot points, they can't really be classed above products of different circumstances. They belong in the Trek universe (beating all the Trek races ), which is where they were intended for in the first place.

Now, I'm not saying your wrong - it's your opinion (you traitorous Borg lover, look what they done to us at Wolf 359!) after all. Just that the premise being a little flawed to me...

And on that note I'm going to contradict everything I just said -

Minbari are the best!

maybe you could be more open-minded. You forgot about the Sith or Mandalorian species from Star Wars, the Cylons, the Shadows, the Kra'Hens, the Dread Lords, the Asgards etc-etc. There are many-many species which could be called "the best".

I don't think this would become a flame war. Excelsior only showed a list and we wrote our opinions about it, that's all.

i think my all time Favorite Race from SciFi is the Centauri from Babylon 5.

all of the Centauri characters in B5 were more than they appeared to be. i mean. you think you have them figured out. then they do something to surprise you.

Mine are the Cardassian's, they are a very interesting race with there early religion similar to the Bajoran's and then there Central Command and Obsidian Order. and finaly with the help of the books, the time after the devestation on Cardassia by the Domminion.

Plus they look cool as well heh.

Thanks for the moderation guys, i had been trying to think up some polite way to suggest a change of title from 'Best' to 'Favourite'...

But as people have already said, the question is very much subjective and personal, and people seem to have already taken that on board so.. hey ho good stuff.

Personally i wouldn't even know where to start selecting a favourite race, mostly because i genuinely enjoy the more different ones (the really alien types)

But i would be very interested in hearing what sort of criteria people would be making their judgements on.

I mean do you like them most because of:
how they look?
what their attitudes to the universe are?
How different from humanity they are?
Their strange tech?
their ability to kick the butt of someone else?

For me the most interesting aliens have always been those that are either really totally alien (Greg bear introduced some that had only conglomerte inteligence and didn't operate on truly sentient levels alone) or those that are (dark) reflections of our own.

There are so many to choose from that I personally can't choose a singular favourite. The races I really like are the really life like ones some examples are as follows:

Narn - B5
Minbari - B5
Cylons - BSG (TNS)
Gouald/Jaffa - SG1
Nietcheans - Andromeda
Freman - Dune
Convent - Halo (Xbox Games)

I like the races that make you feel like they have character and life likeness, they have their flaws like humanity and like us have their peaceful times and the hard times such as wars. Their life likeness and imperfections is what attracts me.
