Barry Letts was producer of Doctor Who between 1969 and 1974. Letts' first experience with Doctor Who was in 1967 when he directed the Patrick Troughton serial The Enemy of the World.
He became Producer from the second Jon Pertwee story The Silurians.
As producer Barry Letts cast Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. Letts stood down as Producer after overseeing Baker's first story Robot (although he did direct a later Tom Baker serial The Android Invasion). Years later he had a stint as Executive Producer in 1980-81 for the final Tom Baker season.
Who and Me is Barry Letts' memoir of his experience on Doctor Who which was released by BBC Audio. However this is only the first volume.
Quite interesting Barry Letts telling about his life as an actor before his work on Doctor Who.
The behind the scenes stories of Barry Letts' experience on Doctor Who from The Enemy of the World to The Daemons is quite fascinating including the forced dropping of Susan Jameson for the villain Morgan in the 1971 story Colony In Space as it did not sit too well with then Head of Drama Serials Ronnie Marsh of having a female baddie.
It was quite moving when Letts' recounts Jon Pertwee's story of wanting his father to be proud of him but sadly did not get it.
Having ended this first volume with The Daemons, it will be interesting what Letts has to say in volume 2.
