Hello, community! It's polling time!

This time, we ask you: Which space ship, regardless of TV show, did you find the most scary?

We all have seen them before. The heroes are preparing to save the world when IT shows up, firing weapons or just hanging there in space, and you go "OMGWTF is dis?! I has a skared nao!" or just "Goodness, that one creeps me out!"

Did we miss one? Is your No1 nightmare ship not in the list? Then tell us, please!

That's it for now. We'll be back in two weeks with the next poll. Until then, have fun!

The MSFC Polling Crew:
Terra_Inc & Amateur

MSFC Polls: No reason to be scared. We're the good guys. And that creepy ship parked out there isn't mine...

Shadows for me all the way. Nothing more creepy than a huge black flying spider.........Heck, even a tiny spider is scary enough. lol.

Mind you, looking at the trailers for the new film Skyline, there are some pretty creepy ships right there!

The Shadow vessel, by far.

The moment in "Matters of Honor" when the ship phases in, twirling towards our heroes... everything stops, even the music drops, time just hangs in the air for a second or two... such a dramatic moment.

It had appeared before that moment, of course, but this one was the most intense.

For me, it is the SSD. I find Shadow vessels quite creepy, yes. Creepy and awesome. But that one moment, when I was watching Star Wars as a kid, and I realized just how gigantic this thing was... that just blew my little scifi-crazed mind.

To be honest, I find Nightmare Fuel and creepy things in general very interesting. I'm a Weird Fiction fan (those of you who read The Wastelands may have noticed that), and I love to read and watch scary stuff, if it's good. An old friend of mine, who died more than 50 years before my birth, once said "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." And I agree with him.

Shadow Battleship, hands down. Spiders scare the living @&^%#@$&*@#&@!@!&~!!)(@/Q/ out of me, to put it mildly, so the last thing I wanted to see on screen was a giant ship resembling one. :cry2:

I voted Shadow ship. Every ship in the B-5 universe announced when it jumped in by the big jump portal opening. The way the Shadows phased in and out of jump space, one moment your there looking at a planet, the next you are space debris.

V'ger for sure, especially as a kid. Until the remastered version was released you never even really got to see the ship... it was just a giant cloud of doom that vaporized ships and everything in its path. I also thought the Crystalline Entity was pretty freaky as a kid. Bad CGI tumbleweeds ftw.

Currently I'd have to say the Borg Cube from Birth of the Federation. Soon as one popped up on the map you knew in just a dozen turns all your fleet was about to be taken out. Scares me to this day...

I agree with the Shadow Battlecrab for all the things mentioned above, and those whom find Spiders scary, I have been having to kill a lot of Australian Huntsman spiders lately. With the weather warming up for summer they are coming out and making their presence known. They also grow fairly large as well, these ones were about 100mm (4 inches) in size and these ones aren't the biggest I have faced in my life.

So.... Who wants to come a visit me in Down Under? :lol2:

You do know that they are harmless? The worst they can do is charge at you down the hallway. We had one in the car about a month ago. While the girls were in dancing and I stayed in the car reading. I unintentionally kept it company for about an hour and a half. :lol2:

I've just got a terrible case of arachnaphobia. Couldn't care what the nature of spiders are, in my eye, they're all evil with eight eyes

Actually they have 8 legs. They have hundreds of eyes I believe. All around their head too. Back, sides, and front. Very cool creatures.;)

Fair enough ISS.

Yes this is true Hellkite, it was an awesome design as well as the Shadows were themselves.

Nice, when living in Arkansas, I would catch wild tarantulas.

I would have voted for the 2nd Death Star. Once finished it would be nigh unstopable. Voted for the SSDs. They are scary big.

Given the choices, I vote the Borg cube. TNG was my first exposure to trek when I was I kid. Their debut in "Q Who" scared the **** outta me. Even worse in "BoBW"

SSD gets second place for size alone. In sharp contrast, the Invinsible Hand was pretty harmless. :p

The shadows battlecrabs are very fearsome. I thought they were cool as heck to but very unerving. I also found it kinda creepy that a person was joined with the ship so that it could function. So it always made me wonder if the battlecrabs were more person than machine or more machine than person. Also cant forget that their weapons could cut thru allmost anything with no effort where as other ships you would see that it did take some effort for their weapons to do damage.

Next to the shadow battlecrab though a sharlin war cruiser would be the next most fearsome thing. Especially if you were a human durring the Earth Minbari war as those ships are massive and just one alone could decimate an entire planet. I think at the time of that Earth was still far enough behind the minbari that the only way they could even bring down a sharlin was to ram it with a huge ship or nuke it. That to me is pretty scary.

Shadow Battleship = tangible fear.

Seriously, I think it's the fact that all it is is a shadow. Pretty freaky

Out of the available options, it has to the Shadow vessel, just for the spider factor of it. Spiders creep me out so the shadow vessel and its abilities are just... *shudder*

That said, there are scarier vessels in mind. A fleet of magog swarm ships is up there (but not the individual ships) but by far the scariest is the Magog World ship. Its a moving solar system that fires blackholes as its weapons... it might be slow, but the power of the thing is phenomenal!

Majestic just showed me pics of the ships and I must say the Shadow is the scariest imo!

My dance performance name maybe Black Widow, after the spider, but spiders really give me the creeps! Especially when you have had countless huntsmans creeping up your legs  that's just freaky!

Well, it's not on the list and it's not from TV/Film but from a game. The SJ Sathanas from Freespace 2. Gained scariness from numbers, the fact that you're a dot compared to it and how it just murders anything.

Also that mission where you start right in its path. Eek.

They are all nasty and / or creepy and / or powerful in their own way. But size / power doesn't necessarily mean scary. The Borg cube is big and mean and powerful, but the ship itself isn't that scary (ominous maybe) - the Borg themselves, now they are scary.
But the SHIP that I think projects fear into my mind is the Shadow battlecrab. The way it shimmers into view, how its difficult to pick out from the background, the very way it moves. And worse, you don't even have to see it to have the word "EVIL" plastered across your mind, that scream just sends shivers down my spine every single time.

On a side note, I am kinda surprised the Wrath Hive Ship is not listed. Though I think more creepy than scary with that one.

oh yeah, that thing was pretty awsum.:naughty:

"Abandon all hope..."

I probably single handily voted for the scimitar. It was probably the first ship that I really saw as frightening.

It's more creepy than scary per se, but how about the Cygnus from Black Hole?
