Recently Amateur, Jetfreak and Adm_Z (forgive me if I have forgotten anyone) released a ship pack of fighters featuring the Valkyrie from the old PS One game called Star Trek Invasion. I for one was unfortunate to have never played the game, however I have always liked the Valkyrie. I have always felt it was a post-Dominion war design, introduced at earliest, late in the war or just after it and was eventually replaced by the Gryphon in the late 2380's early 2390's as seen in the Midway RPG and my Fan Fiction of the same name.

Anyway I really wanted one to fit in my my other Federation models (surprise, surprise) and decided to re-texture Amateur's re-build of Wild Coyotes Valkyrie however as per usual with me I decided to half re-build the mesh as well and optimise it to my liking.

I also used WildCyotes textures as a base for my own. Please note this is my first real dead set attempt at making a texture and it's very plan and bare. I am hoping down the track when Jetfreak gets through the rather large pile of models I have sent him and finished much of his own WIP's he may want to take a crack at improving upon my work. But for now this is how the model stands and I won't be releasing this as the simple reason is I haven't applied for permission and I don't release something without permission.

Comments and opinions welcome. :)

I think it matches Aad's work quite nicely and hey, everybody has to start somewhere in texturing. To be honest, Wiley's originals were pretty bare as well. The only difference was the addition of aztec panelling as I recall.

I also like the artistic liberties you took. Now those thrusters really look powerful. I'd also suggest adding more stuff like a deflector for example and maybe even Starfleet pennants on the wings. That'd open up opportunities for paint schemes and the lot, just like the original PS1 Model.

My revamp project is still far from over though :lol2:, still lots of bugs to work out on the TNG stations and I've only stared to tinker with the stuff you sent me. But I'll promise to get all that released in due time. You have my word.

I do plan to add the Starfleet Logo and some more red lines especially to the wings a little later. As for a deflector I thought about it but decided that since shuttles don't have them, why should fighters? Hey even the Miranda didn't have one. That's why I opted to leave it out.

I am not concerned, I know you have a lot of work on at the moment, as I said in the email no rush, most of what I sent you no one knows is coming. It's only the Cardy ships that are known.

Thanks Hellkite. I thought you might like it. :)

Hehe, fair enough mate. I just opted for one since It looked great on the Gryphon. Although thinking about it again, I think the fighter wouldn't need one. Maybe Valkyrie is purely sublight. Will have to check on the game later.

Yeah who knows, I just went by the Miranda where it didn't have a visible deflector and so the non-deflector Valkyrie was born. :lol2:

The one from the game had mini nacelles on the bottom.

It looks great Maj. If you are doing any more model edits, I don't know if you want to make the wings more angular or anything, but I love the textures. You did a great job.

Yeah, Amateur's has them as well, However I decided to remove them to have room for the missiles/mini photons points. I just combined both set of engines into one.

I doubt I will be doing any more mesh edits, just texture ones now I think. The model is 490 poly's and I am very happy with that. :)

That's a neat fighter craft, my friend.
I'd stretch her a bit on the z-axis to make her a bit sleeker, but that is just a suggestion.

I knew Hellkite would like this one ;)

Love the texture work on her, very nice and very much in the Moerman style.

*hopes this new-found texturing ability will lead you to finishing off some ships*

I think that would work. Maybe in the process making the wings more angled forward, but the nose a little skinner. Make it look meaner or a little more aggressive.:naughty:

I might look into doing that.

Probably not, I think I'll leave the texturing of the main ships to Jetfreak, he did a great job at the Dawnstar and I am not all that happy with my own texturing work. It feels too plain and what not for me, but being a fighter it's not much of an issue. :)

More work for me then, but I've always wanted to take a shot at her. Might even do some extra detailing as well, and paint schemes are just around the corner. But then again, I like the current set as it is. Very Aad style.

I'd also like to see the edits EAS suggested, think you could do a wee bit more revisions on the mesh?

I'll probably give it a go and see what it will look like, other than that I doubt I'll be doing any more to her. Also the textures can still work, I doubt you'll need to make new ones, just work with the psd file. :)

Some updates on the texturing, including the addition of hull markings and some bomb/missile bays on the bottom of the hull. I also gave some of the hull detailing boxes some depth to make it look more realistic.

Yeah, nice add-ons mate. There's something about registries that really complete a Starfleet ship. Then again, its a matter of taste I suppose.

Hello:
I am very happy to see a new model for the Valkyrie, it looks very good and it should make a great addition to the game.
Can you spoil the poly-count?:D.
Keep it up!

I also plan to release a non-registry version for those whom don't prefer registries.

It's a bit high at 504 poly's. :lol2:

Having realised that I edited the wrong version of the psd texture, I merged the two files together and have finally got to a point where I am declaring the model texturing finished.

I have now started on the Incursion model I made sometime ago.

Thanks Avon, it's my first true model texturing quest. It turned out okay, not perfect but nothing ever is perfect so it's all good. I actually learned a bit from this that has allowed me to produce a higher quality texture for me next ship(which I am finishing up now). :)
