it was a bbc comedy, that just seemed to involve 2 drunk women, never saw much of it and wasnt a fan.

no offence to the people making it, but i honestly dont think its going to work, The history isnt exactly looking good, I mean they did Red Dwarf, and that was dreadful, espescially when compared to the original, the same with Dad's Army.

and in my opinion dad' army and Red dwarf were good made bad, so i dread to think what Ab fab is gna be like :/

(i dont mean this to be offensive heh, just putting forth my opinions)

Completely agree.

It seems that both sides of the Atlantic have differences in comedy. Whilst I've heard that things like My Family are still followed over there - it's a very different brand of comedy to the American one's that I know of.

Now, that's not to say that any particular one is better than the other; just that they're different (Airplane, for instance, is my second favourite film of all time). It is rare for comedy to translate well...especially into the mystical language of 'new series'.

Now, on topic. I never watched it either - my Mum did and said it was quite good but I always preferred the Two Ronnies

that a very good point, the series it self might succeed, if thy didnt try to re use the same jokes in a clearly different culture.

I do hope the series does well, just because i feel im a generall nice guy, but i honestly cant see it happening if they are going to "rip off" the original.

look forward to seeing how it progresses

and also, cant blame you for liking the two ronnies ;)

I'm not sure it will go well. Most comedy shows have a lifespan of 1-3 seasons here in the US. There are a few exceptions, but not many. Most shows add comedy to their dialog, which keeps most US viewers content. There have been wonderfully funny shows that didn't last as long as I would have liked, one of which was called "Who's line is it". That show would make anyone bust their gut open from laughing too hard.

But hey, we are more open minded here than given credit, we'll watch just about any show once, just to have a look.:)

I think the problem lies in that they are remaking it for the US audience. THIS is the part that never works.

Some British comedies are extremely popular in America (My Hero, I'm told, is more popular in the US than in the UK), so it's not just a problem of different comedy styles.

The problem happens when you try to remake it with an American spin, it doesn't work, because the story and setting was made for the British audience. Any changes just detract from the show's identity. As other have said before, look at the American attempts at Red Dwarf and Dad's Army...

And what would happen if you tried to make a British version of the Simpsons, or 3rd Rock from the Sun*? It'd be terrible!

*: Although, ANY remake of 3rd Rock that didn't have John Lithgow would just be plain awful anyway, but that's not the point.
