• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hey everyone!

I recently re-posted a lot of my old A2 weapon artwork. Well, chances are I'm going to be producing some new stuff pretty soon, and I thought I might post about it here. So, I hereby declare the Weapon Workshop open!

Also, for those who still actively mod, I take requests. I might not be Rake, but I can do some sprite magic as well!

Cool! I may have something for you in the near-ish future, after finals.

That's great news that you're back in action.

A few months ago I was trying to make TMP style phasers for FO (sod based) but couldn't get it right. If you're after a challenge that could be one for you to try.

Awesome! Take your time, I'll still be here.

Hmmm, sounds interesting. I won't promise anything (I'm not familiar with how FOA2 does things), but I'll look into it.

I have two things I would like. The first is a pulse weapon sprite that looks like a tracer round. It'll be zipping by with a shotspeed of probably 5,000-10,000 so it will likely need to be relatively long to be noticed.

The second thing is a beam sprite that looks like a double-helix. It would have an animation where it dissolves and fades out after a couple frames. It's technically the contrail for the weapon. Probably blue with some electric-y effects but feel free to experiment.

Ah, cool! I'll see what I can do.

A2 beam sprites are a little bit awkward in that they stretch dynamically. This means I can't really control how they look at each given distance. (Not the way I can with pulses and torps, anyway.) If you can give me some rough range boundaries, I'll try to make it look the best in that range.

Yeah, and I just realized that the damage wouldn't be applied until the sprite is removed so the fade out would look odd. Maybe a bullet-type-projectile-thing with a double helix contrail as a pulse weapon? Shotspeed of 1000, maybe 2000, animated so that the contrail flows a bit.

The weapon is a railgun with twisted rails (helical railgun). I want it to be fast enough to look powerful but slow enough to appreciate the awesome sprite.

After some testing, I think 1500 should be the speed floor with 2500 as the absolute highest possible value. 1000 was too slow, and I started getting some odd graphics errors above 2500.

Hello:
Those values you found will truly be an asset for all weapon makings in the future :) .

For now I have made my own sprites, but I hope it is fine if I ask for some help in the future :D .

Yeah, sure. Whenever you need something from me, let me know.

Hmmm, that could work! I'll see what I can do.
