I have the game and don't like it at all. It was a major disappointment and wished I saved my $100 instead of buying the game.

I was disapointed with the way the deathstar was shown.
In the film they say its defences were build around a large scale attack however in the game it can attack ships

yea it was annoying that after it had blown up a planet that you had to get all your ships and then go destroy the station and the death star couldnt just destroye it for you. bit 1 sided tho i suppose.

I never got up to the Death Star, I got bored of it very quickly and I agree that it was a major disappointment.

yea the game was really bad. the land battles were boring and the space maps were to small and repetitive every time. cant understand why they didnt do different 1s like on the first rebel misson on their campain. with the death star now if you take no fleet with it you get 3 or 4 victorys to hold off the enemy with while the deathstar counts down. it then destroys the planet when u hit the button. So the planet gets destroyed but all the enemy ships and station have to be destroyed by your ships amsnd not teh deathstar

Now there making an expantion pack
looks like the deathstar can fire on capital ships now

"Today, Lucasarts announced the official expansion pack to Q1's best selling PC game so far this year Empire at War.

Featuring new maps, units (TIE Interceptor, Phantom, B-Wing fighters) plus some new tactics to use on ground with customisable buildings, plus Luke Skywalker and Yoda will make appearances on the battlefield together with Darth Vader’s Executor Super Star Destroyer and more), and take down anyone who stands in your way of ruling the Underworld

The Rebels have just destroyed the Death Star, and the galaxy is in turmoil. As an aspiring Underworld figure named Tyber Zann, spread corruption throughout the galaxy using new strategic gameplay elements to influence other factions, steal their funds, slow their production, spy on them and more, all en route to becoming the most notorious criminal leader since Jabba the Hutt.

Destroy capital ships with the awesome firepower of the second Death Star, and satiate Tyber’s drive for the deadliest capital ship in the galaxy, a devastatingly powerful Super Star Destroyer known as the Eclipse."

Star Wars® Empire at War™: Forces of Corruption™
Following the success of Star Wars: Empire at War, the best-selling PC game of Q1 2006, LucasArts announces an expansion pack titled Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. A widely appealing strategy game, Empire at War let gamers play the light side or the dark side in an epic Galactic Civil War. Now, for the first time ever, Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption introduces a unique point of view – the corrupt side.

Exciting new land-tactical options like customizable, upgradeable bases and guerilla warfare allow for innovative battlefield tactics. Take command of and confront new fighting units for all factions (Rebel B-wings, Imperial TIE interceptors, Darth Vader’s Executor Super Star Destroyer and more), and take down anyone who stands in your way of ruling the Underworld, be they new battlefield heroes like Luke Skywalker and Yoda or the forces of your most bitter rival – Jabba. Destroy capital ships with the awesome firepower of the second Death Star, and satiate Tyber’s drive for the deadliest capital ship in the galaxy, a devastatingly powerful Super Star Destroyer known as the Eclipse."

The only thing I like about this game and the expansion pack is the method of play you get various modes to play in, at least as the zann (expansion)
would not mind seeing a total conversion of this to have it take on the entire ST universe. have a mod to add the BSG stuff but it is lacking a lot of hooks to the game in general. I think that this game like many others had potential when it was first thought up but lost that by the end of the production of the game.

I play both EAW and FOC and, while, truth be told, I've not played from start to end the single player campaigns, the multiplayer is a challange, in my honest opinion. Sure, the games may not come with all that big a list of available maps originally, but more can be downloaded and installed, just like with Armada. I've managed to wrack up several days worth of game time in the few months I've owned my copy of the Gold Pack (both EAW and the FOC 'expansion' on one DVD disc).

Oh, and you do know you can make custom maps for the game, right?

@Cylon: What's your in-game name?

Yes but I will stick to modding Armada and other simpler games that do not involve Xml editing, Never really liked it that much, and the only one of the Campaigns worth finishing is the Zann and even than it leave it open for more.

While its true I've never played one of the EAW or FOC mods (the one I did try to install turned out to not work because I had the Gold Pack version), I have played on custom maps for both land and space (both were made by the guy I usually play with and against, or at least used to). I think that there is a map editor that's been made, but I'll have to ask him about the specifics of how he made the maps next time I speak to him.

Still, as I said, I've not finished the single player campaigns. The majority of the hours I racked up playing the game have been in multiplayer. Sure, the maps are smaller than Armada ones, but the game play is less complex (instead of building multiple starbases to defend a large area, you build lots of ships to defend one starbase, the loss of which causes the loss of the game (when you're playing space battles)).

Unlike Armada, EAW and FOC involve a lot of strategic thinking as the units are balanced against each other. Say your a Rebellion player against an Imperial player, you're more likely to kill the enemy cap ships with Y-wings or B-wings than with your own cap ships. Each unit is strong against some and weak against others. This is true for both land and space battles. From what I remember, Armada was more about who had the bigger fleet would win.

It's a lot of strategy involved in Armada as well, not just size of fleets, as you sometimes don't have much resources and are constantly under bombardments.

Moderator mode: But let us get back on topic. This is about a Star Wars game, not Star Trek. And the last thing we needs is another versus argument war here.

This topic is about EAW not Armada so please could be restrict the comparasions as already said it's only adding fuel for a future flame war as only one die hard fan needs to see it and boom.

Both shows and games have their own merrits and lets leave it at that shall we. :)
