I didn't find it particularly funny. But I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

I read somewhere that Ep1 it was on Youtube in the US for free. Being in the UK I can't confirm this...
From adverts I thought it looked promising, so long as they didn't make the whole lot overly slapstick.

Hello:
I hope so too! That maybe only the first episode was too much and that the series will have a better feel on their jokes and overall story.

Not my cup of tea to be honest, I finally sat thru the first ep and it ain't pretty. The TNG art style is nailed to a tee though, but the novelty will surely wear off after a while.

The whole thing sort of reminds me of SW: Resistance. Where the plot and chars seem to go out of their way to humiliate the main character lmao.

Ahahaa aye that'd look mighty fine in Cork County!

edit: Actually O'Brien was born in Killarney, County Kerry - top o' the morning to ya! I haven't seen Lower Decks but I'm surprised they didn't erect a statue to Neelix for the lolz.

On another Irish-Star Trek connection, the Trekmovie interview with Chris Pine last week, https://trekmovie.com/2020/08/28/chris-pine-hopes-to-get-back-to-work-on-star-trek-4/, reminded me of this acerbically hilarious play he was in: "The Lieutenant of Inishmore" by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, The Guard, lots of others)

For the most part, this series feels a bit like a spoof of Star Trek, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. So far the stories have felt like what Short Treks should have been. There's no big, overarching storyline with galaxy-wide implications, which is a good change of pace from Disco and Mass Effect Picard. I've been pleasantly surprised at how many minor species featured in other series that have made appearances in the show. I've found a Lurian, Antaran, Arkonian, and two Ariolo in the background, as well as the minor reference to the Kaelons. It's a shame they chose to use the Enterprise appearance of the Tellarites because the Disco appearance looks like it was made for a humorous cartoon. Other than that, it's a nice bit of Star Trek content without being a main course. It's good for tiding us over until the next season of Discovery comes out in October. I wish we had more information on the California-class and Parliament-class ships so I can add them to my comparison chart but other than that it's been a decent show so far.

Two more episodes to go, and I've gotta say I've been happy with the show so far. It's not perfect, of course, but it's closer to the kind of Trek I like and grew up with than either Disco or Picard has been so far.

Episode 7's story about Boimler going to The Farm and the trip there was interesting. I kinda wish they'd explained the impression that they were never gonna leave the ship a little better after the shuttle set down. I'm also curious to see if we'll see The Dog in the future or not...

Episode 8's story was...strange, but I guess that was the point. I'm a little disappointed that the brief scene with the Gorn had them biting into Rutherford like wild animals, but I'm glad his implant made more of an impact in this story than in most of the previous ones.

It looks like the Shovel-prise, seen in the advertisement for Star Trek Online when they were still owned by Perpetual, is now canon. First canon appearance was in the premier, we get a better look at it in Episode 8.

And now for my favorite part: the aliens! We're now up to 3 varieties of canon space orc (if you don't count Disco's Klingons). I was pleased to see another Antaran in episode 8, and I think the Clickets are gonna become a fan favorite. Someone at Memory Alpha thinks the security officer that transferred over during Episode 7 was supposed to be Rigelian, but I think he's probably just a new species.

The primary complaint I have about the last two epsiodes: they squeezed all that muscle that is Jack Ransom into a spandex catsuit and their drawing of him was...less than detailed. I mean if you're gonna make Kirk 2.0 (or 3.0 or 4.0, whatever), at least bring the manservice with him.

Just thought of something. I'm much happier with the appearance of the Edosian that appeared in Episode 7 than in TAS. And I'm so glad they didn't copy the squeaky and so-clipped-half-of-it-is-missing speech pattern of...Arex?

Sorry admins, one more thing

For anyone who is still on the fence about watching this series: this is a great palate cleanser between the action and drama-heavy series of Disco and Picard. The big thing that's let me down about both of those series is that they fall into the same traps as a lot of Netflix shows, where the ability to create season or series-length arcs means leaving behind the episodes that are used to let audiences catch their breaths. It's also been far more relaxing to have a show that is more predictable when it comes to whether your heroes will come out of the episode better than they entered it. It's providing the optimistic escape that made the show such a success that's been dropped from the other two. I never thought I'd become as much of a fanboy of this series as I have been, but it's well-deserved.

So we finally had the season finale and...I'm not sure what to think. The cameo of Riker and Troi was interesting, though I swear it sounded like Riker wasn't voiced by Frakes. I'm really not sure about the idea of making the novelverse Titan canon, as I wasn't a big fan of the obviously Akira-style nacelles, but I understand why they went that route in the show. It's a bit of a shame that they decided to kill off Shax, as I thought he was a nice exaggeration of Worf's more violence-oriented side. The fact that Boimler got promoted to the Titan (whose crew still wore the First Contact uniforms, for some reason) and that Mariner and Freeman are now working together (maybe) made the episode feel more like a series finale instead of a season finale. I guess I understand the move, as this is a very experimental project that was completed entirely, from what I understand, before any of the episodes were aired, so there was no real guarantee that a season 2 would be around.

One thing I'd love to have answered by the time season 2 comes around? How big are the ships? I wanna complete my comparison chart! We've got the California, Parliament, Shovel-prise, and at least one more ship class shown in the series that we don't have much information on size-wise.

The show is a lot better with Star Trek lore then discovery. And the Rick and morty style artwork just seems to work.
