Welcome to Space: 2099
The best explanation for this comes from shadokp at the Doctor Who Forum:
"A very interesting and ambitious project by some fans who have re-edited the original series of Space: 1999 and created a new upgrade for the series. With episodes re-ordered, some new effects added and some other neat ideas, the series has been given a present day facelift which includes a new method on how the moon left Earth's orbit, a new season structure with less episodes each season and some more continuity.
The idea is pretty cool although I find the original to be just fine. Still, I am fascinated by this new spin on the series.
There was even a new opening created with Landau and Bain wearing their second season costumes - very cool."
