Hi all,

I just started playing around with designing my own 3D models in 3ds max and I would love to try our my models in a2 or fo. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find a good way to get my model to SOS format.

reading through various groups seems to indicate a big issue back in the early 2000s which lead to a stop in anyone Releasing sod exporter. Is that still the case? I certainly have no intention of stealing others models. I am just trying to play around during my many sleepless nights waiting to feed my baby milk :)

thanks

I should add I did try mr vulcan’s script but export function doesn’t seem to work on the latest 3ds max

Hello:
As far as I know, the issue was because of a non-stock importer. As for exporter for 3ds max, there should be no issue unless it doesn't work in newer versions of the program, but I don't know for sure

Thank you for your response. I downloaded version 1.5.2 and it seems to work... well.. for the most part. There are still things I am unsure of, but maybe its my inability to use 3ds Max properly

Actually I can't figure out half of what is going on.....
do you have another 3d program you decide? If milkshape... I may have to ask a taboo'ed question which is... well... where to get the import/export tool :( (is it still tabooed?)

Hello:
Milkshape is a good program, it can't handle as many polygons as 3ds Max, but it is far more intuituve. You will not be able to get animated SOD models though.

The importer and exporters are available in Milkshape's own webpage alongside many other extra plugins :) . The taboo came because the available importer will only work with stock game models. Legend say there was once an importer that could work on any model, but some people started using it to steal work from some people, that was the cause of the problem.

I always got on well with 3DS Max 5; but maybe that's just the way I operate. Different people have different methodologies and styles.

The taboo is on importing models; there have been a lot of instances of people's work being stolen that way. So I'd suggest just dropping that line of discussion.

Exporting is fine, and that's the only part you need anyway, so just stick to that.
