Those are Homeworld badges that are standard in Homeworld 2 and is one of the many highlights of that game

The same thing will actually be possible in FO in the next patch when the devs implement the registries feature used in ST legacy. It will allow you to define a custom texture in the odf I believe, which not only would allow for custom ship registries, but would allow you to put custom insignia, or maybe even fleet stripes on your ships(like on battlestars hint, hint)

It will open up many possibilities I think the custom registries on the Battlestar ships will also be a nice touch. Perhaps one could use it for the Star Wars ships too, like with the Open Circle fleet logo and standard Republic Navy logo.

You don't know who Sephiroth is?! He's the main villain from Final Fantasy VII and is sometimes called the One Winged Angel. I kind of thought everyone knew who he was.
