• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

should the proposed excelsior designs have actually been used?

I have seen a number of images of the proposed Excelsior class designs that were created for Star Trek to be used as the USS EXCELSIOR. I have always thought these designs deserved FAR better than to only be seen as wreks in a salvage yard on Star Trek TNG...is there anyone out there who is of the same opinion? and does anyone else think these designs should be used as actual starships? should they have been used for example as combat ships during the Domion war storyline of Deep Space Nine?

I remember some of them. My personal opinion is that it was good that most of them remained on the cutting room floor, some of them were almost Yeager-like level of bad. That said, I've seen some pretty awful concept art turned around into something reasonable, it even happens on this very site.

I agree..a few of the "excelsior study" designs were pretty horrid...But given some were pretty nice, those should likely have been given screen time in my view. I think the 4 Nacelled variants would have been the very best of the study models to be seen on screen. But thats just my own opinion.

Hello:
Perhaps some of them could have been used, specially for the Lost era and early TNG, alongside the ship designs we saw in "The Best of Both Worlds."

agreed. I also think they may well have been good for use as escorts during the Dominion war era story line of Deep Space Nine. or used as sort of like a world war II era Escort carrier... a "Baby Carrier"

To be honest as concept art they are very rough around the edges, very kitbashy and *out there*.

Perhaps use em as a springboard and refine the rough designs to something more final. The layouts are certainly interesting.

good point... still in my own view they had potential...perhaps as light cruiser/Escorts?
