The director Darren Aronofsky will develop a new installment of “RoboCop,†Reuters reported. He is teaming with the writer David Self to bring the crime-fighting half-human, half-machine back to life. MGM, which plans to release the movie in 2010, first announced plans for a revival of the franchise at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Mr. Aronofsky, who directed “Requiem for a Dream†and “The Fountain,†recently finished work on “The Wrestler,†which stars Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei. Mr. Self, whose screenplay credits include “Road to Perdition,†also wrote the coming “Wolf Man†for Universal. The original “RoboCop†(1987), which starred Peter Weller as a corruption-fighting cyborg cop in Detroit, was directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Michael Miner and Edward Neumeier. Sequels appeared in 1990 and 1993."
From another article it will be a reboot along the styles of the recent Batman Begin series.
