Well it seems Jetfreak has put an idea in my head

Some of you may remember, I released a mod (one of my first actually) containing some altered textures for Rick Knox (p81) Intrepid Class. That was quite a while ago, and I've gotten much better with Photoshop since then, so I thought I'd have another go at it.

This is still a work in progress, and it's basically a small side project that I can work on to give me something other than uni work to do lol. Here's what I have so far:

Comments & CC welcome, and I'll post more when I can :)

WOAH. THAT. IS. AWESOME.

Forgive the caps, but that's one of the most beautiful re-textures for the Intrepid I've seen! It may just replace my hero Voyager in-game (sorry Fahres :( )

Hope it comes out soon man!

I've gotten much better with Photoshop since then

And it shows! This is a very nice effort, my friend-- I can't wait to update the Voyager hero ship in my personal build. I may even need to stop using it for target practice :lol2:

Ah, guess I won't be sending my copy to you then. It's a great version man! Really really nice work on the deflector dish! That's ace work right there.

Beautiful retexture of an extrodinary done mesh. I think this will definitely be included in my personal install as a heroship.

The phasers on the aft section of the saucer look a bit strange...

Wow thanks for the comments everyone, I'm actually a little surprised so many people got excited about this little project  I'm flattered & honoured :ty:

Very nice not so blue as the original were are they?

Thanks, and yeah the very first thing I did was edit out the blue tint (which is why they're a little too white at the moment).

Sorry mate not entirely sure what you're asking me here, do you want to use the new textures in your lodded model? If so then yeah you're more than welcome to use them :)

Ah, guess I won't be sending my copy to you then. It's a great version man! Really really nice work on the deflector dish! That's ace work right there.

 Well you can always send them to me if you want, I can never have enough reference material. And thanks mate, glad the master of texture improvements likes what I'm doing :ty:

Yeah that's a long standing error with this model of the Intrepid, I've fixed that now (see the pic below) with some remapping and tweaking the textures here and there.

----------------------------------

OK an update for you, I've been working on the little details all over the ship before I do the general hull colouring (I want her to turn out a little more grey than she is now, without being too grey like my first modded version was). Luckily Doug Drexler posted loads of views of the actual Voyager CGI model on his blog a few weeks ago, so I've got lots of canon reference images :)

I've redone the nacelles, deflector, the exposed machine-like areas on the docking bays & sensor arrays, and I've made loads of little tweaks here and there on smaller things like the escape pod hatches, torpedo launchers e.t.c.

Something else I'm doing for the first time with these textures is adding shadows & embossing to create a more 3D effect, I'm quite pleased with how it's going so far.

And of course here's the pic:

More soon :)

Looking great Dan, one thing I have noticed is the model itself it has a lot of shading errors. I recommend unwelding the ship and then using the tags I just when you export it which will smooth it up correctly for game use.

Well you learn something new every day, I had no idea you could fix a models shading errors that way, huge thanks Majestic mate :ty:

In fact, fixing the shading errors made such a difference to the look of the ship that I've redone the pic:

Wow, she's really coming along nicely! Great job with the smoothing! I can honestly say that you've already left mine in the dust. I haven't bothered to remove remove the blue tint entirely, I'm just lazy lol

You could improve the quality even more!
Unwelding the model solves the shading problems, but if you select specific parts of the model and weld them together, you can smooth parts together. For example highlight the narcelles without the pylons, the emerging parts on the upper and lower part, the yellow radiators and the wall elements around the radiators.
Now weld them together and you'll get a smooth narcelle without the shading problem.

If I couldn't explain it properly, just send the model to me and I'll do it for you

Why bother, when you can just add the _!lambert tag and the game will do it automatically. It's what I use now instead of doing the long way of welding each section separately.

because some of us use the !phong tag so we can see all that weapons fire reflected of the hull:cool:

And because even "!lambert_" makes mistakes time to time.

So you can tag that on the end as well? I thought it had to go in the front. How does that effect alpha maps?

Thanks for the comments guys, as for the debate over the '!lambert' tag, I'll be using it with this model so we'll just see how it goes :)

Wow, looks even better! Great Job!

Well I've been doing some more work on this today, and I've pretty much finished her. I've made a few (dozen lol) minor adjustments to get the ship as close to canon as I can, and I've done the base hull colouring as well, turned out pretty nice if I do say so myself:

Intrepid4.png

And for those who want to use this ship as something other than a hero ship, I've also done a version without registries, which turned out much cleaner than my last registry-free Intrepid lol:

Intrepid4-NoReg.png

All thats left to do now is the lightmapping, which won't take me too long at all. I think I'll also rehardpoint the model and include it, so you'll be getting a full ship mod instead of just textures :)

 I've actually already done one that I'm fairly happy with, it's up on a2files somewhere.

I've finished the ship and sent the file to be uploaded here and on a2files. Here she is ingame :)
