• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Ptolemy Class Freighter

Here is a Ptolemy Class freighter that I started today. It stands at 1768 polys.

I think I will do more work on the nacelles at a later date. :D I will also do one with a cargo canister as well. A neat idea would be that when you first build it, it comes out without a canister but, when it docks with the trading post, it gets the canister. That may be too much to figure out though. :confused:

One idea is to have it without a pod and then use the fusion weapon that allows you to turn it into a freighter or cargo ship, both having different pods on them. ;)

The ship looks good my own crit is that it needs it's faces welded correctly, but I am sure you plan to do that before you texture it. :thumbsup:

I am still pretty new at this and there are things I am still trying to figure out. Making the models look smoother and more uniform amongst them. I plan on playing around with it and seeing what I can do.

I am thinking of doing three different canisters for her.

One would be a construction canister (Ptolemy Construction ship)
One would be a mining canister (Ptolemy miner)
and the last a cargo canister (Ptolemy cargo)
There is a slight possibility that there will also be a ship repair canister.

I know it may seem a little mundane to have one ship carry out so much but, I think the idea of versatility is intriguing. The Ptolemy was meant to be versatile, correct?

I actually like the idea, unfortunately it will cause issues with the AI if you are using the fuse weapon. But since the AI doesn't go off the tech trees you can just make them buildable and not have them in the techtrees.

I like the versatility of the design and idea personally, something we have considered in YY with the freighters. ;)

I was thinking for the players it would be great for the fusion weapon to connect the pods to the ship (al la sacuer separation) but I have now idea how to get into that much coding. I will just make each one buildable with pod already attached.

Just dupilicate the Borg Cube fusion weapon, just rename the files and make sure you rename the entires in the odf files themselves to link the files and change the name and etc of the ships in the odf file as well. Just have a look in the odf special weapons folder for them. :thumbsup:

I have found some pictures that better showed how the Ptolemy looked in more than one view. With this I was able to more accurately design the ship. Obviously the engineering section and the hanger bay were not part of the original design but hey, just like JJ's ships, this is the Ptolemy re-imagined. :D

I will begin work on the skin as soon as I can. I know all the pods are pretty basic but, with the poly count on the stand alone ship on the high side, I wanted to keep the pods pretty low.

Looking good, I would fit the welding and snapping of verts before texturing. If you need a hand send me the files and I will do it for you just to show you what I mean if you are unsure. ;)

Sorry for no updates

I have been really busy lately but, I should have some time coming up soon to allow me to do more work on this project. I will post updates here as soon as I have them. Just some heads up though, my wife and I are expecting our second child next month so, my involement in the community will come down a little for a while.

Good work there Scififan. and Congrats two. I like the look of the overall hull (without the cargo things lol) and it looks fit for purpose with its attachments so over all success thier heh. Cant wait for the texturing.

A better Ship!!!

After a quick lesson from Majestic, I redid my re-imagined Ptolemy. Though it is a higher poly count (2094 as oppose to 1966) it looks WORLDS better. Tell me what y'all think. :D

My suggestion... get permissions and borrow someones and apply them to your model. I can't texture for the life of me hence why I use others textures. ;)
