Right,

All those RPGers out there or those thatw ish to dabble. I had an idea, or rather remembered a friends idea about an RPG he ran for a little while (due to few people playing and those peopel goign off to work and uni it kind of died)

anyway

The basic setting is that after the polar ice caps melt most of the world resides under water, and whats left of the goverments form together and create a new continant, this place is under marshall law, has strict prohibition laws, but there is still a black market, that they cant flush out lead by a group known as "The Syndicate", they control this black market and fights against the newly reformed government.
In an initial attempt to put this enemy down a special regiment of Soldiers were created, after near on 10 years of fighting the goverment deemed their mission a success and everyone was retired, but with a reactivation clause in their contract.

Should The Syndicate or other organisation rise again, then you as a member of this regiment will be called to duty... or will you join the ones your tried to destroy?

The way it worked when my mate did it was that once your established your characters and started interacting in this world you got drafted again, you could fight back, your could run, if you did you may be approached by the syndicate.

As far as tech goes with this, If its feasable in the next 200 years or so it can be done. I.E No transporters, but cars with auto-pilot Suurree why not!

Also your character can be anything from weapons specialist to conscript.

I spoke to my friend a while ago about giving this a bit of a rebirth he said "why not" So he would be fine with this, Also, Spoke to majestic about it as well, and he said if theres enough interest for it it could get a place here!

Well... What do you think people?

Regards,
Jeddy

P.S. When i find it i will post (or save for the chance this goes live) The Time-line

if it has worked before then that sounds like a good start.
However online games do tend to require either a fairly permissive attitude to changing the universe you play in or some very complete descriptions to stop people losing the way...

you are going to need some rather dedicated and able players and I rather fear that there are precious few of those out there with the time to spare.

Any which way... best of luck

thanks,

It will take work, and im more than willing to put that in when i can.

The problem with its first incarnation was that they moved to fast (well that was my opinion) they didnt properly plan things. while the whole structure was basically "let the players tell the story" with a bit more guidance i think it would work rather well.

What iw ill do over the next day or so is write a proper introduction, get the timeline i mentioned before. and see if that intices people a little bit more!

sounds like an intriguing idea, i like it.

Certainly, i'll be following the story as it progresses... i may join in when i have some more free time - at the moment im busy with studying for my CCNA qualification, working on a story im writing, AndrArmada work, a new gf and shortly CO's too.

but i like the idea, if it takes off, i'll likely join when i have the time to do so properly :)

I have now been able to find this timeline if anyone is interested.

Time line from modern day:

On Terran the current date is around the mark of 2230. These are some of the events cover the time between what you know in 2008 and the now shifting world of Terran in 2230.

2008: Current OOC time. Only remembered in the most fragmented of records.
|
2030: First Lunar base founded.
|
2035: first man on Mars recorded in a large number of media, literature and government sources. Landing made under the secret space development government branch of the United States of America; NASA
|
2036: United European Union formed.
|
2140: safe, efficient cold fusion of water developed in Germany of The United European Union.
|
2140: United states of America declare war on the United European Union in an attempt to secure Cold Fusion technology which was desperately needed to supplement the dwindling fossil fuelled economy.
|
2140: The period of time between the years 2005 to 2140. This era was also known as the golden age of man by the few historians and scholars still working. Many advancements where made at this time, and still the argument of global warming and how best to combat it raged, and the world was divided until too late. An attempt where made by the secretive and powerful world science organisation and the ice cap melting was speed stabilised.
|
2190: The United States of America secures plans for a fusion reactor; however this project is sabotaged by the World Science Organisation and the project results in a massive explosion, killing thousands.
|
2200: The war between the United Sates of America and The United European Union has taken its toll. Smaller countries have been drawn in, and instead of risking resources attacking or defending low-lying areas of a content called Africa and Asia they where systematically taken apart with weapons of mass destruction, “Fusion Bombs†by both the United Sates of America and The United European Union.
|
2205: In an attempt to sabotage the war effort, terrorists of the “Geneva Convention†attack and destroy the stabilising measures set up by the World Science Organisation, as a result, the Polar Ice Caps begin to melt once again, however with the increased amount of industrial activity since their stabilization; they begin melting at an accelerated rate.
|
2206: The Polar Ice Caps have melted. Huge areas of land are lost to floods and tilde waves. Whole cities are washed away or covered with new oceans.
|
2208: Running street wars had become common place in the cities that survive. people fight to survive, over resources, living space and even clean water. to combat this the World Reclamation committee was set up to unite what was left of the human race in an attempt to save the future of man kind and ensure that a similar disaster could be avoided in the future.
The World Reclamation Committee have set up security forces, enforced a universal language and begun construction of new contents. Several cities have been newly built; people and refugees flood to them in the hope. Only grinding work lays head of mankind if they are to reclaim even a single facet of their former glory.
|
2210: 13th company enforcers unit, nicknamed 'the cursed' established, help to subdue the gangs and stop the fighting.
|
2220: 13th company put on standby, made into all members retired to civilian life, yet entrusted with keeping the peace when nessesary.
|
2222: First new continent (Terran) finished
|
2230: Current day, cities of Terran are gradually being supplied and re-built. In cities the feeling of working for the grater good is very strong, yet out of the enforcers reach it is any man for himself. In the smaller towns and villages only the strong survive.

These events are seen though the eyes of a historian living in the year 2230. Most well documented events survive, but information can easily be warped and misenterpeted.

*Note Terran was the name of the new landmass, it is possible thatthis name may changem should the RPG get going. whihc, is all down to you lot!

Sorry for double post but no one else is posting!

ive been speaking to one of the guys who used to run this, and we spoke about the old format of the RPG,

Basically it was that there were different Sections for different Locations on Terran, this made it quite fun and very dynamic, as youc ould literally move from city to city make cameos in other peoples threads and then move on.

However i noticed that both cross overs and Midway seem rather Linear, which means for a much easier "audience read"

so if you were in this RPG (Called The Cursed) would you preffer the linear Episode driven format or the previous dynamic one?

(for the record this is not me insulting any RPG im just saying what it looks like to me)

personally, and not that this will directly affect me, but i really really dislike the scattered approach.

All the games I play on, (and I am VERY picky) use the singular thread approach, one story, with sub-plots where wanted, but therefore with all the people joining in the same game...to interact with each other along the main plot.

I have seen a lot of the other type and yet to see one that came close, real writers seem to agree, while people who would prefer just to show off without effort or consequence seem to gravitate to the other...

Again, this is just personal opinion, and I am very sure that somewhere out there someone will find an exception.

Apologies if anyone is offended, it's not meant to be personal

thats fair, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

personally i quite liked it, it allowed the writer to go more in depth witht heir characters stories, and move through a closer to real world
