• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Yes they are made for FO the Constitution for example is in the early 4000's. They will not be for stock A2 as they will be too high poly to use for anything other than picture taking.

Hmm. *yoda face* I don't think you'll have any problems with 4k models even in stock. As I like to tell every now and then, I regularly run Wiley's good old JJprise (ported by teh JF) without issues, on a machine about as old as the game itself. And that is a 30k monster. People (including Z) keep telling it's the mesh groups and hi-res textures that are responsible for a lot of the lag you will experience with highly detailed objects.

It depends on how you run the game too, as a full on RTS with hundreds of high poly ships you'll get lag, no doubt about it, I Syf and I tested it a number of years back when starting Yesteryears. But if you only have a handful them you can get away with it. I build my mods and models to be full on strategy with hundreds of units on screen at once. I always make sure that my models can be used this way but good enough to be able to be used for other ways like picture taking or limited run units. The Excelsior is over 6,000 herself and the Enterprise-B when the model is finished will of course be even higher.

I try and make my models to only have 1 group, sometimes two for the ENT models for the registry. 1024 is my choice for size of textures, but I often make them at 2048 and downsize them or release them at 2048 and allow the downloader to choose if they want to downsize them if they lag them out too much.

The less mesh group and more LOD of Textures you have..the smoother everything will run.. I just downloaded Wiley's new Akira class...gonna optimize the textures and see how well she performs..

Yes Simply unifying mesh groups and limiting the number of textures can work wonders for speed of the game.

Exactly.. Starfox's assistance with my Constitution Class mod pack was invaluable..despite the ships being close to 20k polys, there are only 2 textures, each with a second and third LOD... the ships run tremendously well in game..with minimal lag...
