• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I had downloaded from years ago what I assume is the only thing released by their team and that's the Klingon KVortcha class. I've wondered all this time if anything was ever released anywhere, or if it was all a private endeavor that was selectively distributed or if it just silently faded away? Does anyone know that ever happened to this project?

Ah Project ACOM, a hapless endeavour that never really lived up to its potential.

The K'vortcha was indeed the first release; then was followed by the Cardassian Talim Class if I recall correctly. I don't know if both birds are hosted in MSFC. But the Talim was given a nip-tuck a few years back by Dan.

*sigh*

I can't speak for the other ACOM members, but long story short. The group suffered from close minded restrictiveness and frankly too much ego from certain people. You know, most of the time it was active there were more skin changes to the forum than actual mods being made.

Due to it's leader and his attitude towards me (not something I will go into publicly, even though he seems to no longer be part of the A2 community), they demanded all ACOM mods to be taken down from here. I agreed as it's one of MSFC founding principles that an author for any reason can ask for the mods to be taken down, though in this case it was more a demand, but never the less I did as they wished.

It's a shame as there was some good talent onboard, but as Jet said it suffered due to certain individuals.

Thank you both. I hate to be that guy who dredges up negative happenings from the past, but wasn't aware and just curious. I missed out on most of the temultuous issues from A2's past except seeing little bits here and there more recently. We'll pretend I never asked :)

There's a lot worse things you could have asked about. The Unlimited SOD Importer caused a war on the A2 Files forums that saw the creation of MSFC and unwritten rules about the distribution of the Importer. The initial release of FO3 caused a second war on A2 Files that kept many veteran modders from trying it out for quite a while. And don't even get us started on Jetnova.

Speaking of the unlimited SOD importer, I saw a little of that war, but never really saw the results. What are the rules concerning the use and distribution of said importer?

Essentially, 1) don't release a tweaked model without permission from the original artist, 2) credit the original artist, and 3) don't give the importer to people unless you're sure they can be trusted to follow rules 1 and 2. A surprising number of people wouldn't follow 1 and 2.

It's funny you say that Cabal. I've spent the last year pouring over the A2 forums and those at AFC and ran across the threads concerning each of the items you mentioned. Obviously I'm years late, but it's interesting reading them after all this time.

Also late last year when I joined FO I had run ins with a person as did you and everyone else who I didn't know at the time was jetnova, he went by jemezu I think. The final straw was when he blabbed in a thread about the plot of the new star trek into darkness movie and I hadn't even seen the movie yet. They banned him promptly following that earlier this year.

Not to mention Squire_James which is worse than Jetnova. Jetnova is just a young kid (about 20 now I think) who expects everything plug and play and done for him like he is paying everyone. Squire_James tried to split the A2 Community down the center, just because of his ego as A2Files refused to host his mod due to credit issues. MSFC later took his mod down due to the amount of drama it caused and after he started to stab us in the back for our generosity. SJ doesn't like to give credit where credit is due when it comes to idea and in the past digital work like models (I won't go into how many YY ideas he has taken and refuses to acknowledge with a credit or even an acknowledgement of where it came from). But yes many worse things you could have asked about Rifraf. I've been in the community since 2001, and I've seen more than my fair share, been involved with many of them.

There was also the incident that created MSFC, over on A2Files. A Admin (who I won't name) started to treat me and Syf rather poorly. Whether he was just having a bad time in real life and he took it out on us, or whether he just didn't like us I don't know. But he one day made the huge mistake of saying "If you don't like it, go make your own site". It's exactly what I did and with me came most of the active members they had some who also had a gut full, Syf, Crazyfrog, Darklight, Hellkite, EAS_Intrepid, Borg_Queen to name a few. There are several more and even several more who no longer are in the community. So running the site and dealing with member issues I always have that incident in the back of my mind, to know what it is like when a Admin is just being a *insert appropriate curse word here* so I never do the same.

Ah yes I knew about him as Je_mezu for a few years now. I could tell who he was by how he spoke, when he tried to register here under that name his details matched the dozen other names he had tried to use in the past, RemmanCommand, Shinzon of Remus, Wilson etc. Kat does all the new registration approvals and since she took over not a since bad egg has gotten in, including Jetnova. He even posted on my TCW Moddb profile asking to be left back in earlier this year.

jetnova/je_mezu or whatever he wants to call himself tries hard to get into MSFC, at one point he tried every day after I had rejected his application I think he gave up and just asked Majestic to let him in however we had asked publicly if any member wanted him let in and the response was a emphatic no lol so I will continue to reject him, he may get in one day when I am not paying attention but he won't last long!

He had a whinge quite recently on the FlOps Facebook group, which I thought was hilarious. Claiming it was all someone else hacking his account, and how all the "leaders" of the communities had some kind of agenda against him, the usual tin-foil-hat cobblers. I'll admit to baiting him a bit, calling his bluffs, letting him vent his stupidity, but it helps the community keep a fresh idea of what he's like, and don't really mind how it reflects on myself any more.

I hadn't realised he was the "Shinzon of Remus" "strain" of aliases. I was well aware of that particular "resident troll", as I had more than a couple of encounters with him, but never realised him and JetNova were one and the same.
