• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

New Here... Not on the 3rd Rock from Sol...

Strong implant subjects I see... several orderly's were tossed out of the room and had to get reinforcements while I was waiting for approval. No doubt they will settle in as good minions after the initial swelling goes down.

Well met and carry on!

Welcome to MSFC! If you'll check the handout we gave you at Orientation, you'll see that at 11 AM today you are scheduled for two hours in the Re Education Facility. I apologize for the rush. It's not how we normally do things, but we're in a bit of a hurry due to some unfortunate circumstances.

1) We're glad you're here.

2) We'd like to know more about you. You can post this or we can use the Encephalo Probes. The headaches do fade away after about a week or so.

3) We hereby strongly encourage you to post with reckless abandon in every thread which interests you.

4) Ooops, almost forgot. Kane Lives!

Welcome to MSFC. Hope you do enjoy your stay.

Thunderfoot, get your head into the game. Don't you remember the Re-education Facility is undergoing renovation after the unfortunate "accident" the other week? The re-education program in being held at the F.U.B.A.R. building til further notice.

The link was harmless, it was linking to my Facebook which might have done just that introduction for those who were interested. A better job of introducing me would be hard to accomplish in fact, pics of the Wife, kids, property, rock band, ect. This was why it was posted. While I DO understand there are monsters out there and facebook is one of their lairs... I am not one of them, please rest assured.

As for more about me, 44 years old, married twice with 3 kids, one 21, one 20, and the newest one is 19 months. Professionally I am a bum, 3 ruptured discs in my back, but to pass the time I am an electrician, plumber, carpenter, concrete finisher, chicken farmer, salsa farmer, stay at home Father and also full time care for my dad who recently had a stroke.

I played D&D, then bought all of the books when AD&D came out, that's right folks, I have a full set of the first edition AD&D rulebooks... some of my cherished possessions. I wore out the original dice... don't even know if I could find enough to play a game, it has been a while.

Bringing me around to how I found you folks, me and my gaming pals bought Birth of the Federation many years ago when it came out and played it inexhaustibly. We wandered off to other games, but I found a community not far from here that has kept it alive with outstanding work and mods. That community introduced me to Armada 2 and it's modding community, which turned me on to a link to here in some of my research.

I've been lurking your forums for a few days looking at the Armada mods and scouting the community and decided after seeing the outstanding vid of the cast of STNG onstage in a different section.

I will of course try to participate in the forums as much as possible, I have been a forum hound in other games I played... but these days, spare time is hard to find, harder to spare.

edit: Kane does show brain activity, but not sure I'd call it living.

Welcome to MSFC! And remember, if a future self trys to warn you about the orientation, don't listen.

You say that like a 9 ft hairy beast can't be a kitty cat...

Also, my future self is highly unreliable for warnings. Usually when he shows up trouble is hot on his heels. Him running past me in the other direction shouting a warning that dies off in a Doppler effect is all of the warning I ever get.

To be honest, when I went to create the hyperlink I wondered if the forums would let me do it... seeing all of the obstructions you had in place against spammers and scammers already in place, I figured that it would be disabled until I had made X+Y posts... but having run a forum and fighting spammers myself, I understand the options are limited.

Frequent back ups and an active community are the best defense imho, but hurdles and limits also keep the community dedicated.

I collected the AD&D books and dice as well. Used to really enjoy making up the stories. I have a 1st Edition Deities and Demigods with all of the Michael Moorcock stuff from Stormbringer in it. Before he told TSR, "Whoops! You forgot to ask permission to include my stuff!"

Hello:
And welcome to MSFC!!!.

It is very nice that you are not one of the monsters, and I hope you won't get to meet the monster the A2 community has known, hehehe. I am glad you are feeling fine in this webpage and I hope you'll get to be more active than I am.

Talking about kittehs... :lol2:

Greetings! A warm welcome from me, it's amazing that the ancient A2 community still manages to pull in some people. I'm familiar with D&D as well - I have yet to actually play a game, but seeing as the original Unix Rogue was strongly inspired by it, I have some knowledge of it.

@TF: The real reason why one would want to own a 1st edition Deities and Demigods is the Mythos stuff. Hastur Hastur Hast... *sbloorsh*

HK, I thought we 'discussed' your feelings of envy that I am ahead by at least three or four on the 2d Childhood thing. I am deeply sorry you are not as talented as I am at acting like a five year old, but I refuse to hold back so you can catch up. Y'all just gonna have to buckle down and tighten up, Gen'rul. I willing to bet if you try really hard, you might make it to your 2nd 2nd childhood sometime this year. Besides, you got to be a gen-yoo-wine USAF Fighter Jock all those years. So you never really had to grow up in the first place did ya, Peter Pan? rofl.

Dewbacca, I am terribly afraid your intro thread is in the process of being hijacked. And I regret having to inform you I am one of the chiefest culprits as well.

Dewbacca, I am going to let you in on the dirty little secret here at MSFC. It is heretical and I'll probably be shot for it but the last shreds of my decency and integrity demand I do this.

Everyone else here is crazy. As in stark raving. As in they're coming to take me away. As in here's your nice rubber room, Mr. Jones. As in one flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. As in Slingblade's Carl Childers.

Search your feelings. You know what I am saying must be true.

Run. Save yourself. It's too late for me. I'll stay here and distract them with something shiny and edible.

Yeah into threads are here for getting to know one another and have a little fun.

You don't need to be crazy to be here but it certainly helps, especially if you're going to match wits with Thunderfoot. :lol2:

Ohhh Shiny!

At least you guys didn't start with the Wookie jokes, if I hear someone ask me one more time if there are Klingons around Uranus again.... I've run countless sensor sweeps and have detected neither warp signatures nor any signs of vapor trails... I think the humans call it "Snipe" hunting.

By the way, I was Shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, to find no mention of the Firefly series or the single lonely mention of Serenity on these otherwise well rounded boards. Tsk, tsk, what's a Geek to think?

Not a Crew of Browncoats among you?
*squints and looks closer at the assembled crew*

Often confused with "May a weird man drop a cactus down your suddenly holey shorts".

How about I grab the reins on this thread and have some fun at y'all's expense. (how do you like the double apostrophe? "southern" enough? People expect it if you are from Alabama.)

Ok, contest to guess the origins of my 3rd rock from Sol reference in the title of the thread.

Winner gets to pic which one of Majestic's Avatars in his Sig we will have walk over a grate while air rushes up out of it.

Everyone gets three tries, third wrong answer though, we toss you out the airlock wearing only your socks.

Is there a problem with this? You're not in the Core anymore, Dewy. Out here in the Verge a man is measured by what he can do, not how well he is connected. And if I used to be a Browncoat why does it matter now? War's been over a long time. Are you one of those people who carry a grudge? Might be a little too close to Reaver territory for you to keep on thinkin' that way.

Yup Full on Geek and mighty proud of it. I came late to Firefly but there are none so faithful as the converted.

Welcome to the board Dewy, sorry I'm late in the greetin'. For what its worth, we lost the starboard buffer panel and had to locate it before a proper welcome to this 'Verse could be thrown together

Wrong on both counts, but both good efforts. I am a fan of Third Rock from the Sun, but don't really watch enough TV for it to make a lasting impact.

Joe Diffy is a complete mystery to me, but in my research confirming the answer and possible erroneous answers I discovered him and was amused by his country ditty, but not symbolism enough for this board. You folks are deep geek and I had to find a reference that had more Gene Roddenbery influence, while also bringing one of my greatest influences onto the scene to help introduce me.

I found the Firefly series and the movie AFTER the show had been canceled myself... again, I don't watch TV, haven't watched 5 hours in the last 3 years. Bit Torrent is a wonderful tool and me and the wife have spent many hours here on the porch with a laptop enjoying those shows.

Meanwhile, have just recently watched John Carter of Mars... that was pretty good as well! Did we get lucky and some decent minds get back in control of the entertainment industry? *glances at the TV, sees Dancing with the Stars advertised*

Never mind.

Never mind.

I too went to see John Carter of Mars and was very impressed by it and really enjoyed it. I heard it didn't do well however and actually cost more to make than it earned at the cinema's. A shame as I was hoping for a sequel, but how most sequels goes it might not have lived up to the first.

Another movie I really enjoyed was the Avengers movie, a very well done movie and if you want to go see another movie in the next week or so I highly recommend that movie.

Yeah dancing with the stars is on over here with Australian stars, not a fan of it myself, even though one of the hosts stared in a great bush ranger mini-series that aired here for a month or two. The other host is Mel B from Spice Girls lol.

I have yet to see it, I'm looking forward to it although I'm not too familiar with the source material .

It actually surprised me when they announced it - after Universal shooting down del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness project, I didn't expect another company to make a movie that is even less likely to earn more than it costs. True, that was a sci-fi horror thing and this more of a fantasy movie, but still... I guess it was the lack of scantily clad women in Lovecraft's material that made them shoot it down.

The jury is still out on John Carter... Disney is very sly. They retain the rights and the business model is changing. What something earns at the box office these days is but one measure of somethings worth.

Barsoom is ripe for an MMO and other expolitation, such as animation and toys. I personally think we will hear more about John Carter and in the future Disney's current management will be saluted for adapting to the multimedia world that began with Lost in Space lunchboxes. They are already well established in that arena and simply feeling out the internet for it's market model.

I will eventually see The Avengers as I did the X-Men and other comics turned movies. Generally enjoy them but they don't leave a void of potential like some sagas do. Star Wars, Star Trek, Barsoom, Dune and a few others ended with so much potential for future adventures... some other programs leave me feeling like I just watched something that happened in a disposable world that closes with the credits.

I noticed Majestic didn't have a guess in the contest. I'm okay with that because it would be weird no matter who he picked if he won.

Terra, John Carter is a central hero to a book, later adapted to several dime novels and comics as a series that was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan.

He is a Confederate Soldier and Hero lost in a post Civil War world and winds up on Mars thru an odd event that comes off better in the movie than the Book. Kudos whenever I see an improvement in cinema over it's literal source. Some incarnations of the series and Central character have him as more of an immortal, unaware of his origins and having been approximately 30 years of age for several centuries and having to "die" repeatedly to conceal his identity.

Fascinating premise... carried out in various means, some better or more interesting than others. The movie is one of the good ones.
