• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Mod Usage Permission Question

I have a question regarding permission to use other people's work in a potential mod release.

Thuderfoot's Robert Steins'Planet mod states: This patch is to be hosted only here at MSFC. Any and all requests for hosting elsewhere will be politely, but firmly, declined. Robert Stein's textures can be used in any manner one desires, as long as he is given FULL Credit for them publicly and the Creative Commons Attribution v3.0 United States License is either mentioned or linked to.

Would this mean that his file itself can only be hosted here, but I can use his work in my mod and then release my mod on another site with proper credits? I just want to be sure of the terminology.

I'd say that restrictions on one mod's distribution also apply to any mod that includes it. So if you include his mod, you'd be restricted to MSFC only too, else it would count as releasing his work elsewhere.

EDIT: On re-reading it, the TEXTURES seem to be ok to release anywhere. So as long as it's only the textures, then yes, but if you include any of Thun's work, no.
