Found out from Simon Hull at the Outpost Gallifrey Doctor Who forum that Life On Mars will end after two seasons:
"The Sun today reports that Life on Mars will end after Series 2. Philip Glenister says it's great to go out whilst it's at it's peak."

Sunhill Fire at the Outpost Gallifrey Doctor Who forum says it is possible that Life on Mars might replace Midsomer Murders when it finishes at the end of October. Either that or Spooks season 4 or something else.

I just checked the ABC site and the answer is something else. The something else being Blue Murder & A Most Mysterious Murder.

An indication of when it will be shown:
Sunhill Fire at Gallifrey said that the ABC will be showing the series early next year which he says means anytime before July.

Last night on the ABC, I saw for the first time State of Play and it featured Life On Mars stars John Simm and Philip Glenister. In Glenister's case he plays a cop in State of Play just like he also does on Life On Mars.

Based on what I saw on the opening episode of State of Play it looks like something good to watch while the wait for Life On Mars continues.

The following about Part 5 of State of Play shown last night is definitely worth a mention whether it is a coicidence or not:
Cal McCaffrey (Simm) had this funny look on his face at Yvonne Shaps (Geraldine James) and she said something like "Don't look at me as if you had a message from Mars"!

In a pleasant surprise a fellow Doctor Who fan has sent me a copy of the first season on DVD which I got this morning.

As I mention before I have already saw the first five episodes. Looks like I don't have to wait for the last three episodes of the season to be shown on the ABC.

Finally Life On Mars is coming on the Australian ABC. Last night just before The Catherine Tate Show, saw an ad for May and Life On Mars was included.

With Life On Mars coming next month in May, this means that there are now three shows of peripheral interest to Doctor Who fans, like me (which are not related to Doctor Who itself) to watch. The other two are Robin Hood which already started on the ABC and the soon to be aired on 9 Primeval.

Life On Mars on Australian ABC

I have now found out the exact date of the series debut as Sunhill Fire posted at the Outpost Gallifrey Doctor Who forum saying that Life on Mars will start on Sunday May 20 8:30pm.

This means that it will be clashing with Grey's Anatomy on 7, a show that I also watch. However personally this doesn't bother me that much at least with the first five episodes of Life On Mars as I have already seen them.

Life On Mars on the Australian ABC

Saw a coming soon ad for Life On Mars which was on after last night's episode of fellow Kudos series Spooks. It is not bad.

Life On Mars on Australian ABC

With just four days before Life on Mars debuts on the ABC, saw Philip Glenister last night on the ABC in the BBC TV movie The Other Boleyn Girl. All I can say is that the person he played in that movie is a gentle person in comparison to Gene Hunt on Life On Mars.

This week I finished the last of season 1 and it is definitely something to look forward when the ABC reaches the season's end.

All that is left for me of Life On Mars or related to look forward to is season 2, the spin-off Ashes to Ashes as well the US version by David E Kelley.

Casting news on who would be playing Sam and Gene in the US version.

Sam Tyler will be played by Jason O'Mara and former Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Colm Meaney will played Gene Hunt. Personally it's nice seeing Colm in a regular role again for the first time since Deep Space Nine.

The following link http://www.mania.com/55742.html reveals that the show is slightly different in its plot concept from the original show.

On another note, it has been reported last week that David E Kelley had asked John Simm and Philip Glenister to be in the US show but both turned it down since they were asked to do so with American accents.

Simm says that he does not know why the Americans have to remake everything and that the Americans already have a version of their show - Starsky and Hutch.

The second season began on Australian ABC1 a couple of nights ago.

Season 2, Episode 1:
Playing the villain here is Marc Warren and this represented a reunion with John Simm and Philip Glenister as they were all previously in the mini-series State of Play. Incidentally Warren is a regular on fellow Kudos production show Hustle in which one of his co-stars is Glenister's brother Robert.
Quite brilliant Sam's trick on the Marc Warren character towards the end of the episode.

A solid start to the season.

Season 2, Episode 2:
Quite surreal seeing Sam shaking the hands of his mentor.
Historical note: Sam mentioned the number of policemen consuming alcohol by the time Margaret Thatcher becomes Prime Minister. In 1973 Thatcher was Education Secretary, a couple of years she would oust Ted Heath as Tory leader and become Prime Minister in 1979.
Quite harrowing seeing the last moments of Harry Woolf as a free man.

Season 2, Episode 3:
This episode featured an Irishman called O'Brien. Incidentally Colm Meaney, an Irish actor, who will play Gene Hunt in the US version had played a Miles O'Brien in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Then again O'Brien is a common Irish name.
Nice use of the IRA as a plot device.
Annie remarked about a woman one day running the country. Like the previous episode, this foretells the future of who is going to be in charge of the UK.

Season 2, Episode 4:
Nice to see Georgia Taylor who I have seen before in Blackpool and its sequel Viva Blackpool.
Gene says that Roger Twilling pushing a bird off a car does not make him a bad bloke. What!!! Unbelievable.
Funny the way Gene reacted to Stuart Bator's name.
In reference to Sam, Gene says "We should all learn from the Master." How prophetic.
Amusing the names which would become well known in future are used here. It's like the name that Marty McFly used in Back to the Future Part III.

Season 2, Episode 5:
Sam takes a backseat for much of this episode as the others try to solve an old case.
Good on the flashback sequences and seeing things unfold of what really happened.

Season 2, Episode 7:
Very good penultimate episode in which Gene got framed as a murder suspect.

The night this episode was shown on Australian TV last week turned out to be a double for John Simm as he narrated Making the Monkees which followed Life on Mars in transmission on ABC1.

Season 2, Episode 8:
Got a real shock when that little girl turned up at Sam's door.
Surprised there is explanation about the Mars part of the show's title.
Stunned upon seeing Sam running on top of the building when the Life on Mars song was playing.
Honestly I do not know whether to be happy or sad about Sam deciding to go back to 1973.

What's left now to watch is the spin-off Ashes to Ashes as well as the US version.

Just found out that Colm Meanny (Cheif O'Brian - DS9) has been cast to play Gene Hunt in the US remake of Life on Mars.
