I've been a little busy lately with other things (okay, I admit it, finishing the STO grind to earn a T6 Connie for my TOS character), but in slow time I have nearly completed the Tachi textures and have started the next phase of build that incorporates the railgun and will include landing gear.

The nice thing about working early shift is the nice long afternoons.
First pass at building the Roci's undercarriage. I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out, however it does add a significant chunk to the overall poly count.

What's she's sitting at poly count with the undercarriage?

The Tachi stands at 2390 polygons, the Roci (inc landing gear and railgun) is 3906, but I can probably shave that down a bit.

That's still not too bad considering. A lot of games these days can handle that poly count without issue.

Still UV mapping the undercarriage, however I have completed (probably) the Tachi textures and made some progress on the GAS Roci textures. I've come across a slight hiccup in that the nose GAS logo (which is asymmetrical) extends over segments that I have mirrored... which means a remap of part of the nose :(

Bad KJC, not supposed to be working on yet another model!
Oh well, the MCRN Morrigan class patrol destroyer is nearly built.

The MCRN Gunship is looking great. Can't wait till the railgun is ready to fire.

Well the Tachi is actually done model-wise (aside from engine cone glows), The Roci is a different matter as I still need to finish up the UV mapping. I'm debating whether to release all of the Corvette variants in one pack or just release the MCRN variant now and then release the Roci separately a bit later.

I'm also considering how in depth I want to go. On the one hand I could just release the model with a basic odf with placeholder text. On the other, I could probably reuse some stuff from the BSG HRM to outfit the Tachi with PDCs and missiles. However if I did that I should probably try it all out before releasing and I'm a bit out of practice. Beyond that I also have some urges to take a look at the physics, but again that means digging out my copy of A2 and relearning how to mod it.

For anyone interested in playing with the physics files, I would start by looking at the leftRightInertia values to generate drift and rotationAcceleration which is a Borg physics command but may allow rotation of the ship in combination with the drift values. But it would likely require some significant playing.

Some progress on the Morrigan.
Also I've had a dig around my BSG and Tauri packs and I think I can cobble together some reasonable PDCs to go with them.

Good news, textures on the Morrigan are done.
Bad news, they aren't done because I forgot about needing to do each side separately for the text.

Hello:
Ohh, I know the pain about texts!

A suggestion I could give you is to write the texts in a small extra texture file and apply them in small added rectangles in your ship as a spearate material, (so adding 2 polies per text, while the writting has an alpha channel) so then you'd not have to worry about mirroring.

Shouldn't take too long to fix if you have room on your texture file layout. Still annoying though lol.

Yeah I've done that before lol.

I use that technique for all my high poly meshes, it allows me to change registry numbers quickly and easily (well, relatively). For this one I just make a copy of a couple of panels and added them to the same texture file. Next up is hardpointing and then it'll be a case of putting together a release.

I would have imagined that indeed, it comes quite in handy  .

That is very cool! I use it indeed for registries/nameplates for like Tau'ri ships, my custom Starfleet ships, BSG Colonial ships and so on  .

But I am glad to see you were able to pursue that alternative solution, since we don't always leave enough room in our textures  .

Long time no post, been busy.
Among other things I've been working on a monstrosity called Elsa (thanks Jetfreak) and still finishing off the Rocinante.

Tachi is all done :D
Gas Roci is pretty much textured.
Final Roci is still a texturing work in progress but getting there.

I've been struggling with clear Roci references so I thought I'd open in to the floor:
1. Should the Roci nose art be on both sides of the hull? I think it's only supposed to be one the starboard side but I'm not sure.
2. Should the Roci name be on both the top and bottom torpedo modules? I think the black Roci only has it on the top, but I don't know about Gas Roci.
3. On the Black Roci undercarriage, does anyone know what the letters should be? I'm fairly sure the first four characters are OMAC but not sure if the last character is O or C.

Looking great mate, I personally think 1 side is fine for the decals though it's really up to you what you prefer.

Yeah I think from further youtube trawling that the nose art is only on the one side. I also think the landing gear lettering ends in an O, no idea what it stands for though.

So very much behind schedule, I have uploaded the first two MCRN ships.
The Roci is not yet ready, but getting there.
(Yes that's a Jetfreak picture ;) )
