Some visual changes worth showing off on top of the near invisible changes to tidy up the mesh.
- Additional structure on the upper surface of the saucer.
- New impulse engines (placeholder) on saucer and secondary hull.
- Rework on the neck and spine.
I am really learning to hate that neck! The way it curves in all directions is a nightmare to work with.

That looks AWESOME!!! Really like the darker section on the saucer. Did you try jet black as the color? I always liked the contrast of dark black and the normal Starfleet grey. The two impulse engines and the wider neck are a good move in my book. Are you going to add a second torpedo launcher? Your nacelles are looking great. One question, no blue warp grill on top of the nacelles? Guess I'm just a warp glow whore. lol What's the poly count? I cant wait to see this one all done:)

This isn't textured, I'm just using material shading to give a general idea and let me see what I'm doing. It's hard to see grey on grey.

I'm looking forward to see the final product. I always felt that the Galaxy would need a proper refit.

Not a lot of visible progress to report. I've spent a lot of time rebuilding the neck (Probert was a sadist!) and to try and make it flow neatly into the saucer and secondary hull. Next up will be to tidy up the stardrive hull.
However, I did do a quick map of the saucer and threw on a placeholder texture just to see how it was going.
Unfortunately, due to Steam sales I'll probably be splitting my time. I got Fallen Order (haven't got far but it seems somewhat linear and needs a controller) and Subnautica (GREAT GAME!!!!!).

Hello:
That is a great detail of the windows and frontal shuttlebay! By the way, does your Galaxy still has the usual main shuttlebay at the aft of the saucer?

I'll confess I stole the windows off a Bridge Commander model and overlaid them on my base aztecs. The escape pods will get replaced with the usual triangular pods.
The main shuttlebay will remain, but at the moment there is no door and it's not as prominant due to the arrowhead being higher that the structure of the original saucer. Some work still needs to be done on the bridge/shuttlebay area to make it fit better.

Hehehe, I think that's fine considering to get those windows done right and without stretchings is quite difficult.

It will be cool to see once it's done :) . But your idea made me think that maybe the shuttlebay is now going through those entire decks, from bow (the new bay) to stern (the original one).

It looks really good thus far! The saucer surface is great, gives it quite a different look from the traditional Galaxy. I approve :thumbsup:

Yeah, I know the feeling :sweat:

In a slight break from our scheduled programme, here's the U-Wing orthos.

The thing is about the Galaxy class is it is massive and has a huge amount of wasted space. Such a massive space frame seems ideal to be turned into a carrier - so that's what I've done.

As a comparison, the Galaxy class has a crew of about 1000, while a Nimitz class carrier houses about 6000 (and a good chunk of that volume is dedicated to the hanger).
upload_2021-2-15_19-16-33.png

Here's a youtube video on the subject.

So, why not have a massive hanger deck?

I think I'm happy with the arrangement of the saucer arrowheads. Plus some updated textures testing some gridlines and new escape pods.
Yes, I have been procrastinating :D

Hello:
Your custom ship is really starting to gain shape now, I like the modern Sovereign-like escape pods.
Also, don't worry because procrastination is a Force of Nature :lol2: .

I was worried that the triangular pods wouldn't work, I'm glad they are... but there's sooooo many pods to replace :cry2:
Plus I've just ordered a new... "procrastination tool." I'll post pictures when it arrives...
````
My procrastination aid arrived yesterday... Maybe I really am having a mid life crisis!
Back to the Galaxy refit...
Lots of small tweaks and changes that take a lot of time and individually amount to very little, but now I think there is enough to show. Besides, I need opinions.
There are new texture updates to the upper saucer (still unsure what I'm going to do one the lower side. I thought I had it all figured out bu now...)
Physical updates to the spine. Just one combined shuttlebay there now.
A significant (so significant you can't tell at a glance :rolleyes:) rework of the hull around the deflector dish.
Now the bit I want opinions on is the forward neck. I am thickening it and will probably add a second torpedo tube. What I am undecided on is whether or not to add some additional structure there, reminiscent of what we see on a TMP Connie (but looking nothing like it hopefully). What is in the picture is just a basic placeholder to see where it would go.
Hey kjc733 love what you've got so far!:love:
The new escape pods help to update the model and I like the single shuttle bay in the neck.
The torpedo placeholder maybe needs to be lengthen but I wouldn't make it any wider, don't want to lose the graceful neck if you want my two cents. Have you tried one launcher in the neck and two in the engineering hull, like one on each side of the main deflector? Just a thought.
If I'm right you moved the deflector forward and that's a neat idea.
Ok you know where I think the lower side of the saucer should go. Yep, Warp Drive baby! :plan: I'm going to keep beating this dead horse for all I'm worth. Maybe persistence will payoff. LOL If not how about a secondary deflector that we can see?
Keep us updated :D
Hello:
The upper saucer looks magnificent because it is very unique :thumbsup: . Also the dorsal secondary hull looks quite nice too where the pylons are connected to the main ship.
As for the extra forward torpedo launcher? I think you should remove that extra structure because it breaks the shape of the neck, I would give it two torpedo launchers one in a deck and the other 1-2 decks higher, so you may say in between there is an extra storage or maybe new targetting sensors.
Galaxy updates.
Firstly, the additional structure has been removed from the neck and has been replaced with a slight wraparound cutout.
Secondly, the big reveal of my plans for the lower saucer (ignore the shadowing on the saucer surface, Maya does that sometimes when cutting into to the mesh - I need to figure out how to stop it).
Honestly, I don't like it. So I'll probably be going back to the drawing board.
And no, there will be no Captains Yacht. The only thing more stupid than leaving a gaping hole in your starship because the Captain can't be arsed to use a shuttle/runabout (especially if they crash it, let's face it, Starfleet doesn't have a great track record with shuttles) is missing half a starship because of multi vector separation modes. Rant over :lol2:
Hello:
The neck does look much better now in my opinion as it keeps the streamline design.
Also, about the Captain's Yacht, well Picard never used it as he clearly chose the Danube class Runabouts for those away missions :thumbsup: .
This deal is getting better by the minute, the designers of the Ross Class should take notes.
I looked at the Ross for inspiration... And ignored it. It looked like one of the early STO kitbashes rather than some of the more recent work. Well, except the most recent work which is trash. The legendary Excelsior and ambassador are truly awful.
That looks great kjc333. The new deflector is awesome!! Are you thinking about having transwarp drive? The deflector has touches from the dauntless imo.
Is that a torpedo launcher above the deflector? The twin torpedo launchers on the neck look so much better now:)
The saucer secondary deflector is a placeholder as I'm not happy with it. Yes it has some Dauntless vibes to it, I did something similar with the Envoy. Whether or not I'd suggest taking a Galaxy to slipstream however...
Yes the saucer now has a forward torpedo launcher, but it's going to get moved I think. Unless I decide to add a mega phaser cannon instead :lol2::lol2::lol2:
A complete rework of the secondary deflector, some saucer texture updates (so many escape pods :cry2: ) and now I've been mapping the secondary hull. Oh and some changes to the nacelles for good measure to make the ship look a little more balanced.
Your changes to the sec deflector and nacelles look great. Looks like everything is coming together nicely. I hate to ask but are your planning to release a playable version for A2. I would love to add her to my fleet. Time for some dominion and borg stomping:D
I know about the GC. She was one of the ships I downloaded when I first got on MSFC. I've got her in my fleet and I really like her:) I was just asking because I was thinking of adding your new GC as a hero ship. So I'm not worried about the poly count. So here's hoping!
Spent far too much time with X-Wing 2.0.
Anyway, some progress in uv mapping the stardrive and the nacelles and some preliminary textures on them. A few physical details have changed, the main deflector has been updated and I've swapped out the "eyebrow" phasers for a "monobrow" array. Not sure yet how I feel about it, but I always felt that the stardrive seemed lacking in any big arrays considering it was the combat section.
Something else has occurred to me and that is I haven't got a name for this one. It'll probably be referred to as a Flight III (or maybe IV, I'll have to do a bit of background research), but what name am I going to put on this hull? Any thoughts?
