Hello all, fresh back from Holidays I thought I would show off my latest WIP ship.

Something I was working on before I went on holidays, the Jigoku class is heavily inspired by Madkiofish's design of the same name. However I look my own artistic licence and changed the design in the aft section giving her a shuttlebay and hull much like the Intrepid class.

She is again a small design (like my other deigns) roughly the size of the Intrepid class however I feel she is a bit smaller.

Designed as a strike cruiser she is heavily armed and armoured, so think of a Defiant class on drugs and you'll get the idea. I really liked the streamlined feel of Madkiofish's design and the dual pylon configuration than made me want to model the ship.

I still have a fair bit to do on her, obviously the nacelles and bridge but aside from that I also need to do some work with blending the secondary hull into the back of the saucer as well as the overhanging deck into the top of the secondary hull. The deflector is also needing to be modelled in, she is going to be where the original was that being in the front of the saucer but not like the Linerunner, more like what the Intrepid class had on her saucer.

She has an armament of four fore facing pulse phasers (placed on the nacelle pylons), standard phasers located around the hull at numberious locations and quantum and photon torpedo launchers located on the bottom of the saucer facing forward and the bottom of the secondary hull facing aft.

Also the name is subject to change, I am not quite sure if I am going to keep it or change it yet.

That is a very interesting shape - I love the way the top set of the bi plane nacelles sweep forward over the primary hull - you have a really clean modeling style - good job man!

Thank you all. Yeah my modelling style is actually pretty much Syf's style, he taught me a lot of what I know. So yeah you can blame him.

As far as the Jigoku is concerned, I am unsure whether to have the nacelles like the original design with the pylons connecting at the top and bottom of the nacelle or have then connect on the side of the nacelle much like the Intrepid class.

Well, there are a couple of ways you could go with it - you could go with an established Nacelle design (Akira / Intrepid / Sabre, etc...) to tie it into the established design lineage of the Federation (wow, I used Established twice -THREE times in the same statement..)

Or, and going on the strength of what you've done with the model so far - get creative and do something mind blowing ant futuristic...

Thanks DinoJR, as far as the nacelles I am thinking of modelling something not to dissimilar to what you can see in the pictures. I was originally thinking of the original Jigoku nacelles but thought these might suit better to the design for my liking.

I have now apart from the deflector and nacelles finished modelling the design having fixed up the model and modelled in the impulse engine and bridge. :)

This is seriously shaping up to be a very aesthetically pleasing and functional design. I might even say that it looks like one of DJ_Curtis' models.

As always, very sublime work here. You have got me sold.

The Nacelles are only temps, I need to model them, as for one they aren't mine but WickedZombie's and two they are like 600 poly's each plus I always like to put my own touch when modelling ships.

But thank you both, I really like the design too and hope to get her finished soon. My major issue is the texture side of things and I would personally rather get my other models completed and released before this one. But hey at least there is a nice line up for the Federation. :lol2:

This is also one of the designs that will be appearing in my Adventures of Midway Fan Fiction. :D

Looks like very nice work to me, I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Have you considered blending the pylons into the nacelles in a wrap-around type configuration? On nacelles there's usually a small raised section between the buzzard collectors and the... "blue bit" (as both are indented slightly). If I were building it that would be my first idea, especially as it keeps with the pylon integration with the primary hull.

Thanks, and to be honest I haven't considered that, I may actually try and make the pylons curve around the nacelles and become part of the nacelles rather than just connect to them.

Thanks for that, it's times like this I am thankful I actually make WIP threads of my models, as many people here have ideas I would normally have never consider. :D

Nice looking ship. I like the idea of having the nacelles and pylons blending smoothly into each other. Fits the aesthetic of the rest of the design very well.

Really liking this one so far, and yeah it'd be nice to see a Federation ship where all the sections blend together smoothly.

Keep up the great work! :)

Well I have modelled in some new nacelles based off WickedZombie's nacelles. The nacelles are also gong to be used, however modified on the Archangel class that is on the drawing board.

I am now looking at making the pylons curve and integrate into the nacelles after which I will throw up some images to show. So after that and modelling in the deflector the ship will be complete modelling wise. Then onto my next ship, which is actually another very different design and is actually the initial prototype for Quantum Slipstream drive, but failed (in a matter of terms) due to being too small and not being able to one produce the power generation required and two being too small for a larger slipstream reactor and thus only three were very made, all destroyed in the beginning of the Breen War.

Yeah another ship from my Midway Fan Fiction. :)

Class Overview:

In an effort to replace losses from the Dominion war, Starfleet was continually introducing new classes to replace and/or supplement the older designs that fought and were lost in the conflict. The Jigoku class was a new design introduced in early 2379 to help boost the Cruiser fleet. Utilising technology that was being developed for the new Archangel class, (including downsized nacelles) the Jigoku was to be a smaller and more combat oriented vessel classified unofficially as a strike cruiser. The class was also the first since the Intrepid class to have planetary landing capability thanks in part to her streamline hull configuration.

With some of the most up to date technology including weapon and defensive systems the Jigoku was a major asset to the Federation fleet and played a prominent role in the Breen war.

Looking sharp mate, her classification as a Light Strike Cruiser would be most fitting with the design.

Any thoughts on how the texture will be made? Are you going to base it from Mad's original?

Well MadKiofish never got to the texturing phase, his version of the ship is still a heavy WIP. My idea for the texture is to have it first match Aad Moerman's ships (surprise, surprise) and the Dawnstar as well as look a bit like the Intrepid class with the open display of sensor nitbits on the saucer behind the deflector dish.

The torp launchers will be textured in rather than modelled, like the Dawnstar was. She has four forward launchers, two under the saucer and two up top near the bridge area. Plus she has two rear behind under the main hull.

Since she is a 2370's ship she fits in well with most of the canon ships as well as vessels like the Dawnstar whom is a 2380's ship.

The way I see Starfleet evolution going, is that by the 2400's the majority of Starfleet vessels will have integrated nacelles much like the Defiant and Steamrunner classes. Pylons are on their way out thanks to more refined warp and shielding technology that offers added protection to the crew. The only vessels that would really still use pylons are exploration ships and civilian and merchant utility vessels. Combat ships and even smaller explorers would use the integrated nacelle design.

Well that's going a bit off-topic. :lol2:

The Jigoku class is now officially complete model wise. Last night and this morning I have completed the modelling on the model which stands at a final poly count of 1942. I was hoping for a little smaller but it's still not bad considering the detail of the design and complex nacelles.

To sort of celebrate it's completion (as I did start this before I went to QLD) I have done a few spec sheets that show were particular parts of the ship are. Some are very obvious and some are not without a texture.

I hope you all enjoy them and let me know what you think of the final design.

Hmmm - very very nice Majestic.

I really like the raised section where the nacelles supports meet the nacelle, the way it wraps around is a nice feature.

I also like how the nacelle itself looks to be a baby brother to the Sovereign's - design lineage and consistency, two very important factors often over looked with fan designed ships.

I cant wait to see the textures!!:thumbsup:

Thanks, normally I try to steer clear of the Sovereign type of nacelles. I think it's due to seeing so many horrible kitbashes using Sovereign nacelles that it has actually turned me away from the style.

But for the Jigoku and Archangel (When I get to building her which should be pretty soon) they were the best for the design. The Jigoku is basically a mini-Sovereign, minus most of the scientific mumbo-jumbo. She has luxuriates, but not many. Basically think of her internally as a mixture of the Intrepid and Defiant classes. Compact, but people do for the most part still get their own rooms (well anyone with the rank of Lieutenant Jr Grade and all the senior officers) and there are holodecks, mess halls, cargo bays and the works.

She really isn't all that smaller than the Intrepid, but packs much more of a wallop.

She has really grown on me throughout the developing process to a point where I would have to say she is my favourite design I have modelled to date.

I agree. I've seen many Galaxy kitbashes, including the canon ones, of course. Most of them looked nice, but I've never seen a Sovereign kitbash I liked (well, except Aad's Nimrod, which isn't really a Sov kitbash, just an Akira carrying four Sov nacelles). I think that has to do with the Sov being such n extremely streamlined design, rearranging the parts destroys the design.

She's a fine ship, can't wait to see her in-game.

Glad to see it worked out so well. I can only echo the others now in wishing to see her in game.
Hmm, this is inspiring me to take a crack at a Trek ship, maybe when the garden's been tamed.

Great stuff. Looking forward to the release of this one, especially for A2. Fantastic job there Maj. Looks like a good escort vehicle, or a quick first strike/recon vessel (get in, get the situation, launch a quick strike, and get back to the fleet). Nice stuff Maj, look forward to it

I like everything about this ship. If I may a suggestion. Keep the names of the individual ships in the class as Oriental or Asian as possible. Far too many Western(ie American/British/Commonwealth) classes and names already.

Thank you both,

As for the names, the good thing about Armada is that players can change the odf to suit their needs. But if you Thunderfoot or someone else could at some point make a list for me I'll certainly add them to the ship list.

Hello:
I like how the ship is progressing, the double pylons is a nice touch as they look as part of the design (and not forced into the design) as well as it adds security to the ship.
Keep it up!

This all looks great. In fact... I already think I can guess how the phaser arrays will be set up.

This is my favorite of your new designs so far, it's very inspiring (for me) and beautiful.
The only thing I miss is a small bridge dome on the top of the saucer section, it seems too flat ATM. But maybe it's only me.
