Intrepid 3d Designs - Military and More
I will present some of the work I am doing in this thread.
"We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine..." never mind
Here's a grey one:
Russia: Project 946 "Poliarnij" - Fictional, based on the Project 935 "Borei"
In 2012, the last but two Russian Typhoon sub was decommissioned and dismantled at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk, one of the largest submarine assembly yards. Only the submarine drydock of the General Electric Boat Division in Norfolk could be compared to it.
The Russian Naval Command has just been funded with another 40 Billion US-Dollar to provide a new possibility for nuclear deterrency, as the Typhoons and the old Delta-IV and Delta-III subs were not any longer a valuable tool for Russia's nuclear interests.
The yard in Severodvinsk then had the task to develop and to build a new submarine, that has at least the capability of the US-American Ohio class, that has just been refitted to the standard of the attack subs of the Virginia class.
Also the new Russian sub was needed to be as silent as the Virginia SSN and the highly efficient German 212 Alpha Class with the Hydrogen Reactor.
After the work began in late 2012, the Project was given the name Project 946 "Poliarnij" or short 946.
The SSBN (SS = Submarine; B = Ballistic Missiles; N = Nuclear powered) was, unlike the other Russian strike subs, not a "doomsday submarine". The military doctrine of the Cold War and the early 1990s let all sub designs to the one day the missiles were fired and the enemy destroyed in one nuclear blast. But the 946 was meant to be a versatile SSBN that could endure long term travels that are longer as the legendary Typhoon turns of three month and more and that has a long lifespan without many cost-ineffective refits.
The first sub then was laid on keel on November 1, 2015, one month before the last but one Typhoon was about the be scrapped.
Two years later, the first "Poliarnij" class submarine was commissioned and sent on its maiden voyage. The NATO gave the new class the codename Echo.

A version of the Poliarnij is the Poliarnij-Hotel class Guided Missile Sub, meant for anti-carrier engagements and meant to replace the old Oscar II SSGNs
Here is the "Dimitry Konstantinowitsch" firing the SS-23 Shipwreck III missiles
Designated as Vepr class SSN, this sub is a direct derivate of the Poliarnij-Hotel and the old Alfa class attack sub. This is the "Vladimir Monomakh" on silent run.
