• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hey guys, I have been trying to make my own wireframes and it has been ending up with no success. Is there someone that can possibly help me or offer any advice as to what I'm doing wrong?

I use westwoods Big book of modding and Paint shop pro to make Wireframes, what programs are you trying to use?

I've not yet figured it out. I end up just using a picture of the ship, in greyscale. Or just make it something different, it doesn't NEED to be a wireframe.

Programs

I'm using MS paint, don't know where to get a free version of PSP and haven't figured out GIMP so kinda at a loss. I want actual wireframes for the realism.

Yeah I usually use buildbuttons.

I don't think MS Paint is up to the task as it doesn't offer alphas which is needed.

MS Paint is horrible, but you can create wireframes with it.
You just have to create two pictures, the original wireframe and an alpha map for it.
with another program, the only freeware i know is called "T:D Workshop", you are able to combine those pictures to one combined tga
Dont feel stupid if you dont know what im talking about, but there are tutorials available that may help you.

Id post a link to a tutorial i did, but i think hyperlinks arent allowed here, so you have to google "armada wireframes tutorial" or something like that.

Wireframes

I can get the build buttons to work when I make their alpha channels (upcoming mod) but when I try to get my 512x512 wirefram eto work, it just shows all 5 parts that I separated instead of as a whole. This I don't understand. The wireframe is on a 512 card because if I use anything smaller for this wireframe, the result comes out royally distorted and still has the same problem. Alphas can be done with GIMP 2.6 by going to Layer->Mask->Add Alpha and choosing Layer's Alpha Channel. This is the greatest problem that I've had so far.

maybe your gui_global entry is wrong?
could you please post your wireframe as JPG and your gui_global entry here?

It's quite likely your gui global entry is wrong, I suspect, that you have values similar to,

fbattlew1 fedwireframe01 0 0 48 48
fbattlew2 fedwireframe01 48 0 48 48
fbattlew3 fedwireframe01 96 0 48 48
fbattlew4 fedwireframe01 144 0 48 48
fbattlew5 fedwireframe01 192 0 48 48

that means that in the texture file fedwireframe01.tga, each wire framed system is using a 48 by 48 pixel piece of the 256x256 pixel puzzle. Assuming, you only want one 'system' to display for your mod, and your texture files are 512x512 pixels, you simply (I think) need to change the values to,

fbattlew1 fedwireframe01 0 0 512 512

How many Wireframes you need total? Are you looking to do the work solely by your self or would you be willing to allow someone else take a crack at it for you?

If so I would be willing to do them up for you when I get my System Fully set back up from my move.
