Yes, indeed you heard (read) that right!

On my weekly round through several international newspaper sites, including Russian ones, I found that:

Russian fishermen catch squeaking alien and eat it
Village residents from the Rostov region of Russia caught a weird creature two weeks ago after a strong storm in the Sea of Azov. The shark-looking creature was producing strange squeaky sounds. The fishermen originally believed that they had caught an alien and decided to film the monster with the help of a cell phone camera. The footage clearly shows the creatures’ head, body and long tail. The bizarre catch was weighing almost 100 kilograms, the Komsomolskaya Pravda reports.

However, ufologists and scientists were greatly disappointed when they found out that the fishermen had eaten the monster. They said that they were not scared of the creature so they decided to use it as food. One of the men said that it was the most delicious dish he had ever eaten.

Chairman of the Anomalous Phenomena Service, Andrei Gorodovoi, stated that the creature, which he could see on the short video, was an anomalous being. However, it could hardly be described as an extraterrestrial form of life, he added. Gorodovoi rejected the version about mermaids too. “There are many legends about mermaids living in the Sea of Azov. Nevertheless, specialists of the Service for Anomalous Phenomena have never confirmed those fairytales. On the other hand, we do not deny the possibility of other forms of life in the Sea of Azov,†the ufologist sad.

A spokesman for the Rostov-based zoo, Alexander Lipkovich, contacted local ichthyologists and asked their opinion about the Azov alien. “They said that the fish bears resemblance to a sturgeon. It was an extremely interesting individual. I have never seen anything like this before in my whole life,†the specialist said.

The only problem(s) I have with this story is that there was no proof. I can make a fake a video or a still image. What happened to the bones also, if they in fact ate the creature?

The things that people would do for media attention.

Hey Syf, I don't think it is an alien myself. I should have probably stated it in the opening post.

My guess would be some kind of stingray... Interesting to say the least, alien or not.

BTW: This is the Sea of Azov (the light-blue water), just in the Northeast of the Straight of Kerch in the Black Sea, Krimea Region.

I don't doubt for a second that there are thousands of uncharted creatures in the water of this planet. Most creatures scatter in fear when a human is present. This is why it's so hard for us to find new ones (never before seen ones).

But I would like to ask those guys, Why did you eat it if you never seen one like it. And if they thought it was an alien, Why would you eat one. An alien could be made up of something deadly to humans (and most likely would be, since it's from another world). Just like if an alien landed on earth, and with never looking to see what makes us us, start eating everything in sight. There's thing that we humans can eat, that would kill other species on this planet. Basically, nothing makes any sense about this story. That's what leads me to believe it is just that, a story.

And don't get me wrong. I would be the first to say that "E.T.s" do exist. Just the basic math argues that we are not alone in the universe. But, I don't think they would have discovered a way to get to earth from their planet. If they did, I think that the odds would be "against us" of surviving the encounter.

Actually, maybe it was an alien, and it used it's mental powers on the guys, and made them eat it (used it ESP to tell those guys "eat me")...

Its a very common kind of fish called a guitarfish:

It could also be a skate, but either way, definitely not an alien. Oh, and its Pravda, so don't take it too seriously.

The picture doesn't look real to me...

And like Syf said, why would they eat it if they didn't know what it was? Duh!

Guitarfish: guitarfishes are a family, Rhinobatidae, of rays. Notable species include the Shovelnose guitarfish, Rhinobatos productus, and the Bowmouth guitarfish, Rhina ancylostoma.

These fish are related to both rays and sharks. The ray species (including stingrays and guitarfish) along with the shark species are linked to a common ancestor.

Here's the Wiki on them, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitarfish.
