Well hello there everybody:)

Note - Ive posted this over at the FF forums too - but MSFC is awesomeness in the extreme, so its going in here too!

As some of you probably know, im without a gaming PC at the moment. :cry2:

However, I am looking to buy a gaming laptop in the near future, nothing too flashy, but easily able to run ST Armada and ST Armada2, Milkshape 3d, Paintshop Pro 8/9 etc..

The thing is this; Ive heard so many conflicting things about PC spec and compatibility with ST Armada that I dont really trust myself to spec the thing and get it right.

Running Armada is important to me, as I think it plays better than Armada2, and Halo:Fleet Command (the forthcoming Halo mod) is for Armada and Armada2 (I cant develop a mod for A1 if my PC wont run it, eh?)

So Im asking this; Anyone, everyone, anybody - share your spec, and maybe a little of the compatibility issues you have (if any). There must be a best of both worlds specification for a PC - that has no compatibility issues with A1, but has the power to run A2 at light speed with all of the high poly, flashy light and hi res beautifulness we have come to love...

So basically, its over to you people!:help:

Well here mine (as best I know)

Vista Home Premium SP2
Intel Core 2 quad q6600 (2.4 ghz x 4)
2.00GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 8500GT

And that's about it (standard 500Gb HDD as well). I've had no compatibility problems with it (can run anything I've tried so far. Admittedly the newer stuff has to be run on medium or low but that'll be the graphics card.

I've not tried A1 on her (mine's up the loft at my parents house somewhere), and the only problem I've had is that sometimes the disk drive will not realise there's a disk in it. 'Puter has two drives though so no problems.

Quite a good set up for a hundred and fifty pounds.

I've honestly never tried to run Armada 1 on my home computer (it's a desktop anyway), but it plays Armada 2 perfectly fine, without any compatibility modes, and I'm using the new Windows 7 RC and some hardware that's way overqualified for it (armada 2).

1.7 GHz CPU
0.5 GB RAM
Intel 845 series integrated graphics card (No idea which one, partly because my computer doesn't know. It says 82845G/GE/GL/GV. Any one of the letter sets could be correct.)
Windows XP Pro
74.5 GB HDD

As you can tell, my computer sucks in comparison. Stock Armada 1 runs very smoothly, but I have minor issues running my A1 mod when very large textures or really high poly ships are on screen. The biggest problems are some of the MU planets, probably for their texture size. Ridiculous amounts of torpedoes can also slow it down. For an example of 'high poly', see Greathor's Manta class for A1.

Fleet Ops, however, runs just fine if I set the graphics slider low, despite it's really detailed ships. A2 runs very well at stock but I haven't modded it yet.

That's to do with the game engine more than the PC mate, as each game engine in existence has a certain max pollies it can process on screen and when you exceed this it really lags. The same with textures, for Armada 2, 1024x1024 is really the max you should go to, 512x512 would be better for smooth running.

My quad core will even lag if you exceed the max poly on screen count for A2.
