• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

If you mean converting sins models for use outside sins itself then yes, but I've no clue about getting things into sins I'm afraid.

i don't know anything about sins of a solar emoire, but i do know of a star trek mod for it, called Sacrafice of angels 2, its hosted on modDB. you could try to contact its developers to see what advice and pointers they could give. bacuse they've added tonns of stuff to the game.

Note: Sacrifice of angels 2 is not the same mod as Sacrafice of angels for Homeworld 2, it is built in honour of the homeworld 2 mod, but they are different mods.

Hi Dan,

As the good old captain said, ask EO. Failing that, drop a PM to Canadaman7 - he had to go through converting all the models for Halo Fleet Command to Sins for his Sins of the Prophets mod.

AFAIK I think you need to use the special tools for modding Sins that you can download from the Ironclad website (for free)... Also, it involves having only one mesh group and texture - sins cannot handle multiple textures and mesh groups per model... Also alpha maps act differently in the Sins engine than in A2 - for A2, they give lighting to the model, but for Sins, team colors... IIRC...

I think you need to do quite a bit of work to convert to Sins...

What I meant is that your saying it all most like having to start from scratch in order to convert

Ah - I see; a complete re write - yeah, pretty much, I mean the modeling work is done and the texture is also done... you just need to do some creative re mapping on the model to get it to work (for example, my CCS class model used two groups and two textures - for Sins, I had to re group the model and do some creative cut / paste on the texture to make it fit on one 2048*2048...)

Of course a creative way to get around this is that you can have the textures for several models on the same .tga... loading the same thing over and over goes faster for the 'puter than loading several different things once... I think...

If you're careful then its no worries... But it could easily look like a lot of work to someone with little modeling and texturing experience...

I seem to remember that you need to divvy up the model and do some "UV Mapping" IIRC... I might be mistaken, though...

Yeah, it is now, but looking at the original post (and title), it shouldn't be...

As someone interested in converting Sins models to Armada, I opened this thread... to just find people talking about converting TO Sins. Ah well.

Well if you wish to be tectonically the topic was first breach in this thread [WIP] My 3D Models - MSFC in this post MSFC - View Single Post - [WIP] My 3D Models

By me asking about the conversion.

Yeah, as someone who wasn't aware/part of that discussion at the time, I don't know the "back story" behind a thread when it appears. I go by the title. Seems a rational enough approach to me.

Also, "tectonically"?

As to the opening of this tread it was Dan1025 as stated MSFC - View Single Post - Converting Models From Sins

Ahh I see now. I'd assumed the title was accurate, so I'd only skim-read the post when I'd first seen it. The first post of threads normally being "How do I do [Action A]?", I have that bad habit of just jumping to where answers might be. Apologies for that.

As for the title, it would make more sense to rename to "Converting Models FOR/TO Sins", as the meaning is completely different.

(PS: Hehehe, have just noticed how my mood swings downwards over the course of the evening. Grumpy much? Working on work stuff at home isn't good for my sanity.)
