Andre27's the name. I usually hang out at the Fleet Operations forum and i saw Majestic mention some mods here so curious as the soon to be dead cat i decided to register.

The security of the forum makes me wonder though. On the FO forum i read the security here was beefed up since a hacking incident/security breech/DOS attack (don't exactly recall which) but does the amount of security not scare off new forum members just browsing for A1/A2 mods?

Registering, security Q, validating through link in email, then validated by admin here and introduction before any sections can be seen. Security is a great thing, but doesn't this work counter productive?

Part of the security is to keep certain banned members out who keep trying to get back in who were banned for good reason as well as to keep spammers out (which alot do try to get in! You wouldn't believe how many!)

I used to admin/moderate a few forums during my Ra2/YR modding days and some online games so I've (unfortunately) seen my share of spammers, trolls, bots and so forth.

It's always walking a tightrope trying to find a balance between security and accessibility.
My first impression here is that a casual visitor is likely to be scared off.

That's a bit of a shame because newbies (not noobs who ask stupid questions and are unwilling/unable to learn) can be quite valuable simply because they tend to give a new perspective on things.

You'll find the staff here are quite open to opinions and suggestion from members, new and old. More often that not we ask or include the community in the decision making process. We always try to take people's views into consideration. It was one of the founding concepts of this site that we continue to uphold to this very day.

A fine line it certainly is, and I think while it may scare some off, in the long run it's very successful as so many members here phrase the community and like that our members here are only the best upstanding people with the less than honest and abusive people just don't exist here or not for very long. Like all sites and communities we've had our ups and downs but looking at the whole picture we are still here and doing well.
