• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hey guys! Thought I share the news here for people if they don't already know about it but GoG and Activision have finally teamed up to re-release all their old Trek games that have been sitting in limbo for nearly 20 years including Armada 1 and Armada 2!!!

In the case of Armada 2 I'm particularly excited as hopefully they'll update it to support modern resolutions! I've posted here before about how you can play Armada 1 in HD thanks to the fan patch but not Armada 2 (unless you use some 3rd party mods for Fleet Ops which don't fully recreate the experience).

(Admins hopefully its okay to link to GoG? if not then you'll want to scrub this bit sorry)

Here's the full list:
Star Trek: Armada
Star Trek: Armada II
Star Trek: Away Team
Star Trek: Bridge Commander
Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force
Star Trek: Elite Force II
Star Trek: Hidden Evil
Star Trek: Invasion
Star Trek: Starfleet Command III

Yeah, it was posted here around the time of the release. Needless to say, it's exciting - these old Trek games definitely deserve more love. Still waiting for them to release A1 and A2... It's not easy but I try not to get my hopes up before it actually shows up in the store.

Link is perfectly fine, btw.

They are released now. best 16 quid (GBP) I ever spent.
The best part - I can just run the original install (and thus all the mods equipped) provided the disk is in. Which given I have about 5 different installs going with different mods in, is incredibly helpful.
I will move them over eventually though, because who wants to be bothered with a disk these days!!!

definitely recommend doing it.

From what I can see in peoples reviews they haven't modified either game to support modern resolutions which is such a shame as that was the big one for me with Armada 2.

As far as I can tell, the only change is to make them compatible with Windows 10

Might see if A1 works with the FO team's unofficial 1.3 patch. It added widescreen support, among other things.

Yeah that's the other thing I was wondering. At least with Armada 1 we have the excellent fan patch that adds modern resolution support but does it still work with the gog version if they've played around with things to get Win10 compatibility??

But yeah.. am a bit devo there's still no joy on solving vanilla Armada 2's resolutions issues. Maybe the games being back out there again will tempt some talented modders/hackers/programmers back to work on a new version of the A2 fan patch that includes modern resolution support. Probably wishful thinking though..

Installed Gog Galaxy and bought STA 2. Am happy to say I can now play it again. Might have to get back to modding again. Anyone know if you can copy all these filed into an already existing copy on another drive and play? Can you mod all the files in the Gog folder just like we used to so mods will work? Lasty, within Gog can we just create numerous folders and have separate different modded installs?

Just tested. Copying and pasting works just fine. File and folder structure is identical, save for the new files added by GOG and the altered EXE. All the old modding techniques work just the same.

Also, while I was there, just because I could, I tried an unorthodox ODF name to see if A2 would accept it. Specifically, I included a space and changed the file extension. It turns out that

standardUnits1 = "bbase test.station"

is perfectly valid for A2 so long as the format of the file is still plain text. Just mentioning it because it could be handy later.

Edit: The GOG A2 EXE also works as a replacement for the FO A2 EXE, allowing for a less hacky no-cd thing. Works for the FO v4 variant EXE, too.

Worked for me too! Glad to have a legit way of playing since most new computers don't have a CD drive anymore...

Though on a selfish note, I'm sad my original copy of A2 is now probably worthless. I saw them going for $400USD at one point haha.

Probably worth a bit to the right collector.
