21-year-old Casey Nocket recently traveled from her home in New York for a several-week-long vacation through many of the western national parks. Operating under the social media nickname “Creepytings,” Nocket used Instagram to document her travel experiences as well as the trail of vandalism that she left in her wake. Her photographs depict her finished paintings--made with permanent acrylic paints, as Nocket herself confirmed via Instagram--as well as her in the act of drawing on these preserved natural lands and in one case, crawling over a protected area of historical pictographs in Joshua Tree National Park.
her vandalism
On October 29, the National Park Service released a statement confirming that Nocket has been named a suspect in vandalism cases spanning eight units of the United States National Park System: Yosemite, Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Parks in California; Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park and Colorado National Monument; Canyonlands and Zion National Parks in Utah; and Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park. She has not yet been formally charged. In the event that park visitors stumble upon these images or any other instances of vandalism in the parks,
While the case is far from having concluded, a number of environmentalists and outdoor enthusiasts are pushing for Nocket to receive the harshest punishment for these crimes, seeking attention from the Obama administration by way of this We the People petition.
I strongly urge my Country men to sine this petition and spreed the word . And let us hold this heinous vandal of our national treasures that is our National Park System Accountable to the fullest messure of the law
